I'm interested in using my QY70 to sketch song ideas for a band, so linking patterns to make a song while using the chord function would be really helpful. I've got the RTFM but to me it's pretty cryptic. Your videos have really answered alot questions I had. Thanks again for the time and effort you've put in!

Hello and first of all thank you for the interesting video! Most RU-vidrs only show things with drums and bass tracks and so on. I have now also bought a QY70 and it will certainly arrive in a few days. and would like to use it more than a synthesizer rack, i.e. select sounds from the various tracks and save them as an empty song and then control the individual sounds live with a midi keyboard. I assume you do something similar? I'm going to take another look at your other videos and see if I can learn as much from them 😉 Thanks again and have a nice time 👍

Oh the "Audio IN" is for "Guitar and Mic's" ! I have had a "Boss DR-880" and this Mashine is quite newer as the QY-100, and it has also a "Guitar IN" but the FX of the DR-880 are totally Bad instead of the QY-100! I play around this Days with the QY-100 and the "Guitar IN" FX are really good! You have a real Distortion AMP Sound in there, till up to Extreme Metal Sound! There is no Noise Gate, ok it is a bit Noisy but the Sound is 100% better then on the DR-880 ... absolutly! And with the Chorus and Reverb FX on Top it is real really good Guitar FX, when you think about it is from 1996! Shame on "BOSS" ...! I love all the BOSS Gears, they are quite good... and the DR-880 is a bit like the QY-100 ...and newer, with Audio/Guitar & Bass IN ...but you can smash that Gear, so while the IN FX are complete Garbage ...! You only able to get "Crunsh Sound" and Rock maybe, but no Solo or Metal Guitar ... and that is Aweful for this Unit! In my opinion the "FX" on the QY-100 Guitar IN are Quite Good, you need no StompBox in front of the QY-100 you have all inside the Unit, and its Sound Amazing good, when you have the Age in Mind much more better ...its a Top Notch Arranger Tool for Guitar Players! The QY-100 is a "Magix Music Maker" in Midi ! Or "Band in the Box" is Kind of Gear it is. When you are inside the Work flow ...its Amazing...with a Adapter cable, one in two out ...you can listen and Record on your Smartphone together...Yes! And store your "Ideas"! Or put a 128MB Smart Media Card inside, and store there your Work! No Audio Recording possible... thats a bit sad...but, its a old gear! When Audio Recording were possible, this thing were the "Holy Gral" ! I absolutly don't understand "WHY" the Developers don't build this Unit further ...they make Peadalboards with "Touchscreen's" ...but a Poket Device like the QY-100 with Batteries ....and a Color Touchscren and Guitar IN ...they lost such a kind of Development ...i don't understand that The QY-100 is a Poket DAW 24 Tracks !!! Realize that 24 Tracks WTF ...yeah ! 524 Phrases ...from "Death Metal" to Classic ... you can build any Arrangement with this Killer Maschine!
This is difficult to word but I'll give it a go: Do you know if, within song mode, there is a way of triggering patterns to start at different bars. For example, I want the first 2 bars (1 + 2) from Main A, followed by the final 2 bars (3 + 4) of Main B?
Dan Miller hi Dan! unfortunately not that I’m aware of. I think your best bet would be to copy the measures in question into an adjacent section. So: write a 4 bar pattern into section A, then copy bars 1&2 into the “Intro” Section. Obviously not ideal since that takes up a slot, but that would be the only way I can think of to accomplish what you are asking. Possible you could send system exclusive messages to skip a measure or two but that would require an additional device to send the message, and some time wading through manuals to see if such a code exists. When I'm in song mode, am I forced to use the preset "Intro", "Fill AB", "Fill BA" or can I just create my own phrases/sections with the instrument/voice types and notes I want and weave them together to make a full written piece? I come from music trackers, and there's like phrases and chains. Phrases house the chains, and the chains house the music notes. So I typically have one phrase with four chains (four bars), then I put my music notes into the chains. When I have four phrases, I have 16 chains and that equals one entire song section. The manual makes it out like I'm limited to only using those existing sections and wanted to know if that's true or not, because I like to write somewhat complex progressions.
Howdy! Sorry for the extreme delay, didn't see this comment for some reason... You can create custom content for Intro Fill AB, but you are limited to those sections. Basically you are locked at six custom sections per pattern, which makes writing complicated patterns somewhat tough. It might be possible to record a pattern change into a SONG to achieve this, but haven't tried that myself. So each Pattern has 6 sections (intro, fill AB, etc.) and maybe you can record a pattern switch in the midi events somehow? Again, that's just an idea. I have only recently (last year or two) gotten into trackers primarily through Sunvox and then Renoise, but I've also preordered the Polyend Tracker since it appears to be a nice hardware presentation of the tracker ethos. In song mode you can use as many -different- patterns as you want, each with the six sections outlined in the video to fill out your song,so capabilities of combining sections and patterns is unlimited, only thing to keep in mind, if [ENDING] section plays all the way through it will end the song, bit you could make the pattern 8 measures long and switch sections after 7 and the song will contonue

Unfortunately I only have a QY10 so I can't verify that, but if it's anything like the QY300 or the QY10 it should have a lot of conceptual similarities, bummer about the manual
Unfortunately no, but I’ve grown fond of the limitations of working with what’s on the machine and the limited sound sculpting. If you want custom sounds you’ll need to use it as a midi brain to control an external hardware sampler
Andrew Crump unfortunately, I don’t have a QY-70 right now, but 98% of the functionality is identical to the QY-100 so I believe everything in this video still applies to the QY-70. Thank you so much, what a great help...! This may be a couple of silly questions, I am completely new to this, and it may be covered elsewhere that I am yet to find but, can you record audio...? Did I notice a line-in on the back panel for guitar or maybe vocals...? Secondly, once a song is complete what is the file format and can you export it...???
Glad to help! Not silly questions at all: 1) there is no way to record new sounds into the QY, the audio input is meant as a sort of FX processor so you can run a vocal mic, guitar or synth through it for practice or performance, 2) I believe you can back up or export the MIDI data using a program like “Midi OX”, but you can also just perform and record the midi or audio into a DAW (which is the route I usually take). Maybe I’ll make a QY workflow video? Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!

@@laura_whittle My guess is that the audio input is only there to bring the sound of this box and an mp3 player/guitar/mic together. Lots of new battery run keyboards and modules like the Yamaha Reface series or Roland Boutique series feature a line in. So if you play let's say a Reface and a Boutique simultaniously, and plug the headphones-out of one into the line in of the other, you can hear both synths mixed together in your headphones, without the use of a mixing device. Especially if you want to play in a field or on the beach, it's very handy because no mixing device I know of runs on batteries, and all you need to pack is 1 extra cable (or mic).
