r/AmITheA**hole In today's episode, OP was run over by a hit-and-run when he was a teenager. This incident completely ruined his life because it slammed his poor family with medical bills and it destroyed his athletic scholarship. Later in life, he's chatting with his friend's girlfriend, and she brags about getting away with a hit-and-run against a teenager when she was younger. OP puts the pieces together and realizes that this is the woman who ran him over when he was a teenager!

What I was talking about in an earlier video; OP is 1000% in the right despite the (rightfully ex) wife being 1000% in the wrong and trying to play the victim card and gaslight OP into thinking he was wrong to tell the kids.

They both told me their truths and they were both different, but I was able to understand both sides and come to a clear idea of what happened from that. I just always wish I was told the truth from the start. “Mommy and Daddy have been fighting a lot and Daddy has found someone that can make him happy. Also to point out, his mom was a single parent and had less intense jobs to help OP growing up. Obviously the individual who ran him over should face some repercussions, but it's hard without hard evidence. I'm not saying he shouldn't try to get legal action, just saying he's likely going to be hitting the brick wall harder than it should happen. As for the friends, they don't realize that OP had his life stripped from him when Ashley hit him years ago. She made his life worse and left his mother with a large amount of debt because she ran that red light. That's 11 years of scars and now they want him to forget it? For the divorce story: Dad is absolutely NTA. My parents divorced when I was little (10 and my brothers 7 and 3) and all I know about why they divorced is that they started fighting and it escalated to my father coming home, robbing us blind, attempting to kidnap my brothers, and leaving in the middle of the night. We were never given any insight as to why things happened the way they did, why they had escalated the way they did, and the fear and uncertainty and came in the following months pretty much destroyed what was left of my childhood. In my opinion, it's critical that when parents get a divorce you have an age appropriate conversation with the child/children and make sure they understand what's going on and why. Not knowing can do so much more damage in the long run. This mother didn't want her kids to find out but the thing is, things like that have a way of popping up when least expected. She can be mad all she wants but if I were one of her kids, I'd rather hear from my parents that mom was cheating than from someone outside the family who knew what was up.

“Let it go” is always said by those who’ve never suffered from trauma, whether it be abusive family, road traffic collision, being attacked/mugged, someone betraying you, sexually assaulted, etc, it’s *always* said by those who haven’t had to suffer the lifelong mental/physical implications. I’ve been told by random people that I need to “get over it”, “let it go” and “she’s your mother, just forgive her” when she heavily abused me and enabled my brother to violently assault me, whilst both being homophobic, and I’ve absolutely no intention of forgiving them, in fact, I cut all contact. My families abuse gave me permanent nerve damage and PTSD, I’m about 90% bedridden and have mobility issues, when I have the energy for a short walk I have to take regular breaks and walk with a cane, plus dealing with the chronic pain that I’ve lived with since my teens from my damaged pelvis, meaning at 30, I’ve spent at least 12ish years in pain, every second of the day, and fighting with PTSD. I dunno why I should “let it go” or “get over it” when I have to live with this for the rest of my life. I absolutely abhor that attitude, and I don’t understand why folk side with the person responsible. OP has had his health ruined, something I massively empathise with and feel his anger over, and don’t blame him for wanting to get justice, he can prove through a decade of medical records just how much that collision has changed his life and that she isn’t even sorry, like who jokes about that with “oh he’s probably 6 feet under, lol”?! She was literally laughing at committing vehicular homicide, she thought she’d killed a kid and was LAUGHING?!? Not the butthole, his “friend” however is a massive butthole for siding with her and telling OP that he needs to simply get over it. I imagine he does this in an accumulative manner. All the ratings generally gather up to lead to a batch of stories that are meant to provide examples of atrocious behavior. It's meant to tell us "this is the worst end of the spectrum, beware of these people/behaviors/etc." That way, gather a bunch of really high end stories after giving examples of lesser evils to instruct. For the last story, if the dad didn’t tell the kids about their ‘cheating mum’ I GUARANTEE some gossip would of told them. That would lead to the kids being angry at the mum (obviously) but also the dad since he wasn’t forthcoming with why. The dad told the mum before the conversation that he would tell the kids why if they asked. He was honest about that. It’s not like he decided to just say it for the sake of it. The mother is DEFINITELY 100% an asshole. I have no respect for cheaters and completely agree with what the dad says. Good video as always OP! When it comes to the last story, the kids were going to find out eventually. There was no way that could be kept a secret for long at all. It's best that their dad told them as soon as they asked, so that they weren't being lied to, because that made things worse. I was 16 when my parents divorced because of my mom cheating, and I won't give details, but I went low contact for a couple of years, but the relationship was somewhat mended since then. I don't think that could have happened if I didn't know in the first place and found out later. I'm not saying his ex-wife deserves a second chance with her kids, but if it's anything like my situation, she has a better chance of mending the relationship if she owns up to it and gives them space to process and forgive.

When my parents divorced (I was 17), my parents told me why they decided to split, though they did not go into extreme detail. No matter how bad it feels, it’s better to let the kids know why their parents are divorcing.
@GTSE2005
@GTSE2005 2 года назад
I agree. It is much better than divorcing without a word or worse, blaming the child. Sure, divorce can negatively affect a child's wellbeing but if the parents explain why they are divorcing and do not blame the child, the effects can be minimised.

I love how people tend to assume that doing what is right for you , means you are the good guy in the story . And that everyone will understand why you did it . It’s not that cut and dry . yes the husband was emotionally abusive , yes the he turned the kids against OP. And yes she should have left . At the same time however , she was essentially the mother the kids needed and was dumped into their lives at a pivotal point in their development. So while this was probably the best outcome , OP did still traumatize the kids . OP is definitely not the butthole but with the same time LIKELY traumatized the kids .
