To put in context just HOW creepy the guy in story 1 was, let me add some ages to some of the main points of the story: when OP turned 18 and started dating him, this man was 25 and her sister was 10. Second story was so wholesome. And made me smile and was a nice buffer from how the first one went. Good on them for being more than welcoming and just wanting their kid to be happy over who it was with and their circumstances. Some people are too ignorant and hateful to care about their kids happiness. And seeing both parents not care and be accepting was probably so good for not only their son but Sadie too to have a confirmation so early from them both. some women never get accepted from their partners parents. And although newer will give them The opportunity to actually develop a healthy relationship since she knows she’s already accepted.

It was so sweet!! My parents were pretty homophobic for a long time (intense religious beliefs unfortunately). I think they kinda still are. But they're getting better. It was really rough on them when my sister came out as lesbian. But when they saw how happy her gf (now wife) makes her, and how amazing of a person she is, their hearts started to soften and they accepted it more and more. They'd probably still tell you that they don't agree with homosexuality, but they love my sister and her wife and were really supportive at their wedding and supportive of their marriage. It's gotta be causing some cognitive dissonance for sure. But thankfully, their love for us as their children is shining through the homophobia that they were indoctrinated with growing up, and their minds are opening more and more. There's still pain and hurt that was caused, and my sister is cautious with them and is still healing from that. But, it's getting better. My sis is a queen and softened the way for me to come out as queer a few years later. She's a rockstar, and so is her wife. Her wife brings so much fun energy to the family. It's like, you just can't help but love her, and love how happy she makes my sister. (:

Story 3: As someone who grew up with ADHD and still have it to this day and will for the rest of my life, this family pisses me off so much. ADHD is NOT laziness, our brains don't work like neurotypical brains. Its a constant struggle to fight yourself into doing what needs to be done rather than what you want to be done. Hell, you can even be doing what you need to do and suddenly you get so sidetracked that you end up from point A to point A.12 instead of getting to point B. Sometimes its even a struggle to get out of bed and do anything remotely productive that day because we're tired of fighting with ourselves day in and day out. We don't choose to be like this nor do we want to be like this. There are many options to help with ADHD, such as therapy and medication. What doesn't help is telling others that it's not real and it's all made up. It is VERY real to us, and just because they don't have it doesn't mean they should be the one to tell those with ADHD how they feel or how lazy they are if they can't even understand what we go through. I was lucky enough to have parents who kinda took it seriously, but where I'm from, it's really hard to find anyone who believes it's a real problem or that it's not just laziness. I'm really glad OP got out of her toxic family.
