Good explanation of how different horn length affects steering. Ryan, please do a video on using the different holes on the Ackerman plate. Cheers. 👍

I’ve run short horns sense the very beginning, it’s from flying helicopters for a couple decades. Much more precise and like you said, a smoother feel. Might try a long one on the truggy now, definitely will help with early rotation, didn’t think of that. I use 1/10th scale horns on mine, so real short. No binding ether.

Great tips. Thanks for sharing. I watched your videos since you ran Tamiya. Drake, You, and Mike C ( don’t know how to spell his last name) he’s in with Elliot Boots, you guys explain things the best. Having you with Kyosho is a big deal because you do a lot of videos with great advice, and running footage. Some things apply to most 1/8 nitro, but now, we get MP10 specific advice. Kanai does great stuff also, it’s just that’s it subtitled, and he rarely answers questions. I’m in Ohio, have you heard of Browns ? Thanks again. Stay safe. Go Team Kyosho!!!!

Thanks for the comment. Yes I’ve been to Browns once. For sure need to go back. Was there for the X-ray race last year. Much more to come as my knowledge of the brand grows. Lots to learn and then lots to share. 👍🏼

Amazing video is always! And informative. What im most interested an curious about now is that mega transmitter that we briefly got a glimpse of. How amazing is that supercomputer? I'm sure it's the best? Much envy

Haha yes it’s amazing. Not sure if it has quite hit the market yet. Futaba 10PX But it will bring down the price of the Futaba 7PX which is still an amazing radio!

@@RyanLutz Yes sir I love futaba myself. I have been using the 4 p.m. for a couple years. I was trying to move up to the 7 PXr I believe it is. With the flags on it which I really like. But long story short my transmitter for some reason died and that was a little bit before I could afford to upgrade so I had to turn around and buy another 4p.m. which is brand new to me now so I have to get the goody out of it before I buy a new one or unless I can sell it I guess but I so so want a new fancy one.

The longer steering horn will feel more aggressive, but not because it has more leverage on the steering - it's because a longer horn will result in more movement of the steering bellcranks per degree of servo output rotation. The longer the horn, the more any load acts against the servo. Vice versa for shorter horns - less movement per degree of servo rotation but loads acting against the servo have less leverage. It's a great video - EPA and turnbuckle lengths are crucial for a good setup. 👍👌

Thanks for the more in-depth explanation and wording. I’m not a very mechanical person so I try to explain as best I can. I’m just a driver. 😂

@@RyanLutz Your video explains a much neglected mechanical aspect of steering on our cars. Radios for the last 20 years or so have worked around these fundamentals with so much wizardry, people have lost touch with it. Far from just a driver - a bloody good one - and not just quick, but with flair as well. 👍 I have to say, your on-board camera videos are awesome. You and Drake are true international ambassadors of the sport.

You get more speed when higher. The lower the more torque. So in this case the shorter one gives a little more torque but not by much though.
@aaronperelmuter8433
@aaronperelmuter8433 Год назад
@@purpledonatello That’s absolutely ridiculous! How can a SHORTER lever possibly provide more torque? That makes absolutely no sense because it’s completely wrong. Think about using a spanner or ratchet, the longer the arm you use, the GREATER the amount of torque is output for the same force applied to the arm. Why do you think people use an extension bar on the end of their lug nut wrench for their car wheels? If they can’t undo the wheel nuts using the lug nut wrench as supplied, slip a piece of pipe over it to make the handle longer and then the nuts can be removed. It’s no different at all when applied to rc steering, as with most anything, the longer the lever, the greater the force which is output.

Does it take more motion to reach a certain steering angle? for example: longer ones you steer a bit, it already reached limit but with shorter ones you have to steer more. I'm thinking it's kinda like your gearing.
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 2 года назад
Yes you would have to steer a little further in the wheel to reach the same amount of steering with the short vs longer at least at the start. At some point I believe they would match up. For sure they have the same total steering set by your endpoint. Which is why I state it will feel smoother especially around center when you begin your steering movements.
@horatio321
@horatio321 2 года назад
You're exactly right. Longer horns move the steering more quickly but have more force to overcome. It's precisely the same pricinple as small wheels vs big wheels or low gearing vs high gearing. 👍

Thanks Ryan, just to be clear, do you get the same amount of steering with both horns? I have the MP9e with a 20.5….so what you’re saying a shorter horn will be smoother, less sharp but same turn capability? Thanks bud!
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 2 года назад
Yes you readjust your endpoints but when you do you get the same travel and same amount of steering, just in a finer smoother motion/feel! 👍🏼

@@RyanLutz perfect thank you….what tool do you use to put the new turnbuckles on in titanium, I’ve always found it hard to screw those in tightly even for the upper arms it can be quite hard going?!
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 2 года назад
@@neilkapoortennis well these ones I did after they had the steel ones in them already. So not sure how much harder the titanium ones in a new rod end would be compared to the steel ones. But either one should be the same. Chuck the rod in the end of a drill and thread it into the end of the rod end. Full tight then off. Then do the other side with fresh end. Leave that one on. Then remove from drill and thread in the end that now has threads already cut.
