Doomworld is pretty chill if you want discussions entirely about the original games. The eternal LE RIP N TEARR circlejerking is primarily a RU-vid and Reddit thing. Not saying Doomworld is entirely a bastion of good takes and nuanced discussions but it’s practically the Garden of Eden compared to the unspeakable hell zones that are the Eternal fanbase congregations

@@officialFredDurstfanclub True, I would also like to add something based on my experiences with the Doom community. *Classic doom forums such as Doomworld, Doomer Boards and ZDoom forums are pretty much the only few remaining/active places where "Faith" of the original Doom still remains without the circlejerk of Modern Doom community.* From my experience, classic doom community are more passionate, more cooperative, more helpful, more curious, and generally less toxic compared to the Modern Doom community. I don't know what caused it, but it's really visible and noticeable

I hate to sound like a crusty old gatekeeper but I think the difference is mainly because of a few things. 1: these are newer games. 2016 and Eternal are a lot of people’s first Doom games so as such, they venerate them as untouchable masterpieces. 2: Eternal is a hard game, I don’t think anyone would deny that. I think the reason why people get so aggressive and smug about it when people say they had a hard time with the game is due to the fact that these nu doom fans really haven’t played anything else like it. By beating it, it gives them this sense of smug satisfaction and that’s where the whole git gud mindset stems from. That being said, Eternal is completely fine once you remember button commands and shit. You want a hard FPS that will really crush your balls? Play Blood on Well Done/Extra Crispy, or Plutonia on Ultra Violence 3: as you see by the video, a lot of Doom memes revolve around LE RIP N TEAR HUGE GUTS BFG MARS DOOM MUSIC. The Slayer and Doomguy as a whole has mutated from a pretty angry guy who just wants to get back home and then get revenge into this over the top dubstep metal listening killing machine who spews out 1 liners about ripping and tearing and huge guts. This has created this over the top macho image to the fanbase where Eternal is seen as this testosterone fuelled manly man’s game and DG has become like Duke Nukem except without the self aware humor and irony. It’s rubbed off onto the fanbase too. You type in ‘Doom feminists’ or something on RU-vid and you’ll get a bunch of videos like TRIGGERED FEMINISTS TRY TO CANCEL ETERNAL, or SOYBOY GAMES JOURNALIST IS FILTERED BY THE COMBAT LOOP. There’s this extreme machismo vibe to the whole fanbase, yet I’m fairly certain all the people saying these things are limp wristed iron deficient specimens themselves 4: general hype and a cult mentality. Eternal was extremely hyped upon release and since 2016 was so well received, it created this mindset that Eternal couldn’t possibly be bad. Anyone who even says they didn’t enjoy it automatically is either a spineless wimp who can’t handle a MAN’S FPS (which goes back into point 3) or someone who needs to git gud (going back to point 2). Any criticism whatsoever is now completely null and void. If you just vaguely didn’t like the game, then you’re wrong or a troll. I’ve seen people here make 40 minute response videos to people saying they didn’t like Eternal and nitpicking every single part of their videos, with the comments section in a massive circle jerk about how RIP N TEAR ETERNAL DA BEST. I do believe in maybe 20 years time, people will look back on Eternal and think “yeah, it was okay”

Nah mate, it's the last video posted on my channel because I'm a lazy ass when it comes down to making videos, and although it may seem like some sort of final "fuck you, i'm out" video, I never intended it to be one. Agree on other points you made here. DOOM will have a special place in my heart, since it introduced me not only to FPS genre but to making videos as well.
