r/Entitledparents OP grandpa gave her a brand new iPad that she can use for art. When the local Karen finds out about the iPad, she makes it her mission to guilt OP into handing over the iPad. She concocts this absurd fight and then demands that OP give her son her iPad as a way to apologize and to help her son cope with the stress. Even Karen's own daughter sticks up for OP, and as a result Karen kicks her daughter out of the house!

I actually witnessed a pregnant woman yell at a disabled veteran after he parked in the handicapped spot. His response to her ignorant stupidity made everyone laugh our asses off. He told her it's not a disability that she can't keep your panties on and keep getting pregnant. She kept harrassing him until she called the cops. It didn't end out well for her. Her current boyfriend was not pleased to come get his child and the other children from 4 other men who fathered her other children.

@thedarkcat7484
@thedarkcat7484 2 года назад
I know one in particular who's parents were very much like this. Like, they didn't even like her drawing fairies or dragons. All of her art was very obviously reflecting an eating disorder - skinny and boney to an inhuman degree. Like, count the ribs and the waist below is barely thick enough for the spine. But she had major talent, so her parents paid her tuition and sent her to college out of state, on their dime. When she went off to the college, she just... didn't show up to class. She ditched first day, leaving them with the bill, and ran away. I met up with her literal years later and she was in full leather, dyed hair, piercings, tats, everything her creepy religious parents preached was immoral and would send her to hell. Her parents only tolerated me because of my parents being semi religious, but they kept shoving us together because, I'm assuming, weird desires to marry in similar subjects of religion. We had a good laugh about her parents and got coffee. She was looking much better but she told me that she can't draw anymore because she can hear her mother's voice in her head criticizing it and calling it devil worshipping. Which sucked to hear, because there was so much love put into each individually shaded scale and carefully rendered fairy wing, and she was proud of her art no matter what her parents said about it. I told her about the 4H drama she'd missed and she told me her sister was now planning to run away and her brother had, too, but he wasn't coming back to the state like she had. That took me by surprise because her parents claimed he was studying abroad to be so successful. Knowing them, they could be lying to save face, but I think they just... literally don't know their kids. They never tried to know them, just control them. So even in the local homeschool group they're a mockery because their daughter went off the deep end. Good for her, though. She deserves freedom.

I’m a bit late to this one, but regarding the last story, it is technically illegal. I’ve been homeschooled since the third grade all the way to community college, and while it depends on how regulated homeschooling in your state is, It’s illegal to deny a kid learning, which is essentially what the Karen in the final story was doing. California, where I’m from, has some of the more relaxed homeschooling laws out there, but I remember when I was younger and part of a charter school my mom had to fill out forms and send them to the school to prove we were progressing. That’s my understanding of it anyways. Feel real bad for the kid in that situation though. Having that kinda mom is just down right terrible. Hope both of her kids manage to make a life better for themselves, even if the one is still trapped and brainwashed.

In Florida back when I was in middle school and high school (early 2000s) the state required taking the fcat or cat test to insure you were being taught properly. However depending on what curriculum you used at home those test didn’t make sense. My school was considered fully accredited and we had to send in tests for each subject to pass. All that to say in theory having a test for kids to past sounds great and can be a good tool for ensuring they’re able to read and write. But if it’s a subject (algebra for me) that they haven’t done in year and barely made it through the first time with extra help you come out looking like you’ve missed out. I struggled through those test due to subject matter and their weird ass I’m sure Florida version of a word problem. But I worked my ass off on my workbooks and subjects my school program sent me. So it’s a loosing situation. :/

I was homeschooled in MI, IN, and WI. MI had no regulations at all. IN only required that you could prove you meet the core 40 for a highschool diploma. (They didn't do this at the time, but IN does now require that you record 180 days of "school" but there are no qualifications for what that day can look like) WI required that we register as homeschoolers with the local public school, and that we record 180 days of school.

Yep - I've known a number of homeschooled kids, and all were quite capable and some even smarter than the usual public-school kids their age. The one deficit I've seen is that sometimes they're not as "socially adjusted" in being able to deal with other their age. This may be due to the lack of others around them with whom they can interact - others their own age, since it's more likely that any other siblings will be at least 1-2 years older or younger.

@Chris G what does welfare have to do with anything?
@ImJustShayeB
@ImJustShayeB 3 года назад
@Chris G You know some...interesting women. However, I wouldn't consider it a "major reason". Birth control isn't 100%. There are also a lot of logical reasons why women don't opt for birth control. A lot of different birth controls have life threatening side effects, from blood clots, strokes, and the birth controls that are inserted in the cervix have tendencies to not deploy correctly and to even dislodge into other parts of the body. This can unfortunately lead to emergency hysterectomies if the IUD gets lodged into the uterus or worse if the IUD travels somewhere else like the lungs. So if a woman does fall pregnant to a child they can't afford, there is adoption or abortion. Some people are antiabortion and if they opt for adoption, well the adoption/foster system leads a lot to be desired. So yeah, welfare may possibly be a reason to the women you know, but it's not a major reason.

That pregnant woman who wanted the disabled spot desperately needs someone to explain that we know how to prevent pregnancy and a uterus is not a clown car. And as someone that went over full term in the scorching heat of a South Texas summer, ankles and feet swollen to the point where I could only fit in flip-flops, and a weight gain of 40lbs (all baby), if you are at the morning sickness stage, you are not at the point where they give you a temporary placard for those spots.

@Annie_Annie__ 3 года назад
I had "morning sickness" the whole time I was pregnant. But it was more like nausea and vomiting 24/7 and it’s called hyperemesis gravidarum. I lost weight over my pregnancy because of it. I was so weak and sick (it made me very susceptible to the heat and I also live in south Texas) that I would have qualified for a temporary handicap placard, but by that point I was in the hospital so often that it was moot. Some people do get temporary handicap placards while they’re pregnant, but those people would usually get it because they have such horrible sciatica that they can’t walk more than a few feet or situations like mine where they’re really weak. And they’d probably be pretty empathetic to people that have to live with pain, weakness, and exhaustion their whole lives rather than just a few months. Unlike people like the woman in that story that act like their reproductive choices should entitle them to have every other person on earth bow at their feet.
@Phlimbob

Well, OP said she was visibly pregnant, and she could have had one of those conditions where morning sickness lasts much longer than normal, though I highly doubt it
@KellyDVance
@KellyDVance 3 года назад
@Annie absolutely, hyperemesis gravidarum is most definitely a reason to get a placard. My friend also had it for both her pregnancies and was put on bed rest 4 months in. If a doctor gets you the placard, absolutely you can and should take it. My sciatica didn't start till after delivery, I don't even want to think of having that pain while pregnant, mine literally put me on the floor. But, you're right, if she was capable of caring for 4 other kids while pregnant she probably wasn't in that bad a spot. BTW, hopefully your HEB has parking spots for parents with small kids. I would make a point of asking teens who parked in those spots if they forgot their baby, especially the boys, while holding my daughter.

My brother's wife homeschooled three children in Arizona until age 10. There are laws about what you can teach with specific curriculum and assessment requirements. If that Karen's child wasn't learning to read, CPS should get involved. It is illegal to keep a kid out of school and not give him/her a proper education.

Every state is different. I'm in SC and I know of a 10 yr old, daughter of an acquaintance and my niece's best friend, and she can barely read. Her mother "homeschools" her and does her school work on the computer. I feel so bad for the girl. Mother passes her off to grandparents half the time so she can party and get high. If I knew more about the situation I'd try to call CPS. I think they've been called in the past and the girl was just sent to grandparents. So sad.

As someone who was homeschooled all the way that last mother disgusts me. As for your question rslash it depends on what state they live in and sometimes the school district too. When my parents first started homeschooling me and my brothers we had to meet with a licensed teacher once a week so the state knew we were learning. But soon it was reduced to once a month and now it is unneeded. My parents still had us take standardized testing as well as ACT tests. Sadly I've seen plenty of cases like that last person who just use homeschooling to indoctrinate their kids or worse.

My family is also really religious so learning about christianity was a big part of every day learning but it was never just a class or stressed more than you know a normal education, it was just thrown in like reading lessons or a verse before the start of a class.

There’s a whole movement called “unschooling” where parents homeschool their kids in the most lax states they can. Then instead of actually teaching them anything, they just "let them explore the world" (like chase frogs and climb trees) or they only teach them "workable skills” like forcing them to work in a machine shop for no pay. Then the parents brag online about how much superior it is to traditional homeschooling or to public school "indoctrination". A lot of the people that do it are of the "I’m not religious, I’m spiritual" sort that wants to live on a commune ‘off the grid’, but would never probably put in the actual work needed to do so and are never far from their laptop or phone.

The parents never took the kids to school and allowed them to not learn to read, write, sometimes talk, and just let them do whatever the hell they want. Not even rules like “stay away from a busy street”, and “don’t run with scissors”. They say it teaches their children how to be responsible on their own and learn how to live without rules. Even tho Karen is teaching him little, he still gets to do whatever he wants. I say free range kids treatment is child abuse and some families have been split up because of the parents’ horrible teachings and childcare.

My Mom and Dad both have hidden disabilities, you can't see Dad's prosthetic leg because he wears pants and you can't see Mom's lupus and fibro myalgia and how her body is attacking herself, causing severe pain along with the DDD she has in her back so we get a lot of stares when we park in disabled spots, including the one in front of our house. When we first moved in the witchy neighbour thought she had a right to park in it because her deceased aunt lived in the house before we moved in. She didn't have a blue badge, but we do. She would shout at us, threaten to call the cops and even get the spot removed until one day I got fed up and yelled back at her because her screaming voice was at a pitch that it set of my Sensory Processing Disorder, she's been scared of me since then, she did tell Mom that she should punish me for it, and that "her kids would never speak to her like that" and Mom just replied with "you set off an autistic kid with your yelling, it's not our fault" that shut her up

If anyone riding with you has any sort of physical disability i.e. heart condition, bad hip, limited mobility etc. then if you possess the blue placard you can legally park in the handicapped spot. However, you cannot simply swipe the placard for yourself if you have no such disability, as it will only result in the placard being taken and your family member who needs that to access the handicapped spot will not thank you for it, as it costs money to get it replaced and the like. This Karen needs to simply look for a spot that is reserved for expectant mothers *IF* the store has such spots, and if not, then simply asking customer service to call the store manager over to talk about adding such spaces is simple. Or this woman can simply keep her legs shut and not keep spawning kids who will all likely grow up to be entitled stuck-up brats who think that the entire world revolves around them and that no one else matters. I doubt a 250$ parking fine will change her mind anytime soon.

I agree on the assessment. Billy (in the last story) is 10 and cannot read or write. That alone should raise many red flags that the EM hasn't met said requirements. It's not frown upon if you do have to do a home school route as there are a lot of resources. However, you'd still have to push for requirements even on a light load of learning. I'm pretty certain A should look more into that depending on what her state regulations are. That could be an issue with EM's means and if B don't meet his goals that falls upon her.

Regarding homeschool there are no rules that regulate homeschool in Most states. I lived in Michigan and my parents were literal psychos. They were narcissist and I was not allowed to attend high school at all. Not even a little. I was third in my class through eighth grade because I was hoping to get a scholarship and leave but I didn't get to go to high school. There is literally no recourse for what they did to me. I have friends who were actually homeschooled but their parents actually bought books and did programs. It's up to each individual parent. Thankfully because I did well in my middle school I was able to test into a community college and eventually the University of Michigan. I can't tell you how hard that was to do but if I wouldn't have already been so far ahead it never would have happened. As far as Billy in this situation I'm sure that Mom is definitely an entitled parent and it sounds like a narcissist. It sounds like Billy is The Golden Child and everyone else is supposed to serve him. In my parents home I was the black sheep and I was supposed to raise my step mom's children. They even called me Beckerella and I cleaned the house and did everything you would expect. Pretty sick and wrong isn't it? I really think that there should be some sort of standardized testing required for home-schooled students just like regular students.

Like, when I was taking care of my family from 7am-midnight or later, when was I supposed to do schoolwork? @TarotMom86
@TarotMom86 3 года назад
@@derguenter6257 I disagree, but I WILL say that (as a former homeschool mom myself) there should be a lot more regulation done in many states. Some are a hell of a lot more strict than others. I grew up with school teacher parents, and I have heard some of the shitty end of teaching. The biggest issue is overcrowding, and lack of new teachers. A lot of the "teachers" in the schools (at least where I am located--can't speak for anywhere else) they are so short-handed that they put unqualified people into the classrooms just to fill the space. (No joke...bus drivers have even been asked to be long-term subs in core classes. I wish I were kidding). So, you end up with someone with little experience in an over-crowded classroom trying to control a room of anywhere from 20-40 kids. I have 3 of my own and it's like herding cats...I CANNOT imagine more than 10 in a room. Now, add on to the fact that there are kids with behavioral concerns, or learning difficulties, and you have kids who need extra help learning who aren't getting the attention they need in order to learn effectively. Also, not every family can afford the high costs of tutors, or special outside programs. So, **assuming the parents/guardians of the child(ren) are responsible and able to do so**, homeschooling can be a wonderful alternative to facilitate the education for most children. It's a hard thing to regulate for sure, and I agree that not everyone should be allowed to do so. I decided to stop homeschooling because I do not feel like I am doing a good enough job teaching my kids everything they need to succeed at their age level, and I don't want them falling behind. I recognize my limitations, and don't want my kids to suffer because of it. In a perfect world, if every parent considered this we would have no issues. Sadly, it's a reality, and no one really knows how to fix it at this point. Taking it away from people, however, isn't the way to solve that problem when having the flexibility to homeschool is highly beneficial for many families.

Hi, public school teacher in Mass. Home schooling is overseen by the DESE but skirting around the rules is super easy. Most homeschool parents choose from a cirriculum approved by the state and offer to them through online or mail in support. There's a ton of options and many are great resources for kids who can't (for one reason or another) attend a public, private, or charter school. As for state testing, yeah it's unfortunately REALLY EASY to skirt around that. And this is Mass where we are very on top of that. Not providing a child with a basic education (and illiteracy at 10 would outside that) is considered neglect here. The child's school district should report it or they can face fines. Unfair to the school district because, how would they know?, but that's how it rolls here. Other states might be different. I can only answer for what happens here. Vast majority of the homeschool kids I've interacted with (as many transition to high school where I teacher) are super prepared if a little uniformed. Good skills, lack of knowledge sort of thing. Easy fix! But it's that rare ones that really scare you.

Information about homeschooling: Every state has different rules and standards. For example California doesn't monitor homeschool or check in on them. My state, Massachusetts, however has strict guidelines. I homeschooled my children. Each year we needed to prove to the state that my children were up to state standards for their age and grade level. If they fell behind academically our ability to homeschool would have been revoked. Interestingly enough Massachusetts is also the first to begin virtual schools and had several successful virtual schools already up and running before coronavirus hit. The virtual schools are the wave of the future. Once the schools are proficient at teaching you get a much better quality education than you do in a public brick and mortar school. I think it's an excellent combination of public as well as homeschooling. Children enrolled in those virtual schools have no interruption to their education because of the pandemic.

I just have to say that, as a student who experienced a "hybrid method" (part in-school, part online) for this last year, I felt that in-person was a LOT more conducive towards learning in general, but I also believe the feasibility of this system depends on the subject/construction of particular classes. There are some classes that I have taken that I would never want to give up (both because I enjoyed them and because of the amount of things I learned) that would never work online, at least not with the tools currently available. It's just not immersive enough.

California does have regulations? At least that was my experience for the couple years I was homeschooled- my mom was a retired high school calculus teacher and we had a pretty strict cirriculum that went through a charter school that supplied us. She then had to submit those assignments to the BoE or else everyone got in trouble

Back in my school days, we’d meet with someone from the Board of Education regularly to ensure that we were on par with our peers. It was very organized and I personally enjoyed the meetings. I don’t know how the mom in this story is getting away with not teaching her son to read or write. Unless Billy has a learning disability that OP doesn’t know about, I don’t know how his mom could still be allowed to teach him when he’s that far behind. If she’s being that negligent towards his basic education, she should not be homeschooling him. Homeschooling is a big responsibility and the mother sounds very irresponsible and childish. My suspicion is that the mother is somehow evading the evaluations meetings that homeschool parents are supposed to take their kids to. It’s really upsetting for me personally when parents claim to homeschool their kids but aren’t actually teaching their kids because they misrepresent the entire homeschool community and reinforce negative stereotypes about homeschool.

You're correct that minimum state requirements are required to be met for homeschoolers and they should be tested using the same state exams public school kids use. Unfortunately this is not enforced and many kids get setup to fail by parents who are not mentally equipped to teach. I'm not anti homeschool as we homeschool our daughter, however, not everyone can do it and you MUST have support to do it correctly. While we take care of core curriculum personally we also go through private schools to supplement electives and have her enrolled in sports and clubs ensure our daughter is able to develop social skills as well. That boy is being setup to become a clone of his mother.
