The hostess maybe shouldn’t have said dying, but I would have said the same thing. And if the child didn’t know about his illness then saying when one of your kids is dying, the child is young enough to not be able to put them together. There is lots of times that “when your dying” is used as an excuse for not doing something so.

Phillip Ferguson Make a Wish is honestly such a phenomenal life-changing foundation! I had Received a Wish (shortly after I turned 18 to meet Jennifer Lawrence form The Hunger Games) and found out I was accpected a week after I had emergency surgery and almost died and that it’s self gave me SO much hope in that really dark time and really pushed me to wanna recover faster. We ended up going to NYC to the world premier Hunger Games Exhibition and right before we left MAW gave us a new camera,1000 spending cash as well a tickets to the Empire State Building. On Wish we were taken through the Exhibit by people who helped with making the movie and well walking through it on of the stars from the movie Jena Malone and starting touring it with us and when we came to the gift shop part they give all the Wish kids (four of us) and tell us to take whatever we want and it’s all free ( and they help us pick stuff out, I ended up getting a sweater and my mom asks if she could get one for my sis and that she’ll pay and they tell us to put it in and not to worry about which for those 2 things is 300$) after that we met Jennifer Lawrence and that moment changed my life! And that we met Josh Hutcherson, Willow Shields, the producer, Director and costume director. Then went that was all done all that with the kids got a special gift on top of that which included a sterling silver Mockingjay pen with diamonds for eyes. My wish was just to meet Jen but what MaW ended up giving us it’s something I can’t even put into words and I only changed my life but everyone in my family and I am forever grateful for everyone who for who helps maw and who made this day possible! Now I’m looking to become a Wish granter!!❤️💫⭐️❤️

My brother had cancer and we were not only given a free pass too all three amusement parks in Florida, free plane tickets, and hotel stay, but also a farewell party, and many many gifts for the plane ride there and back. GKTW not only gave us an amazing condo to stay in but there is unlimited Ice Cream, free gifts for ALL of the kids daily, free spa and other amenities, and so much more. And as a sibling of a sick child, I often got overlooked, I was surprised to find out I was just as well treated and spoiled as my sick brother. We even got to visit again last year with my now healthy little brother :) They truly are magical and the best organization ever

If I worked there, I would be more than happy to meet and care for any MAW family that comes through. Obviously the conditions for their visit are tragic, but the fact that the family has an opportunity to have a completely carefree vacation (not worried about money, etc.) with their child and I get to have some part in making sure it's the best time they could possibly have would be so fulfilling. Honestly if there was a position just for helping MAW families I wouldn't even care about the money lol, the position just kinda validates itself. Too bad the Disney parks are both thousands of miles away from me lol, that would be a cool job but not one I could reasonably move across the continent for.

Disney staff are compensated fairly well for the expected results of their work. While most of the antics are rehearsed to near perfection and are simply acts to bring out a smile, MAW kids bring out the genuine compassion and desire to bring joy out of them.

Teachers try to teach us more advanced things because she knows that if we'll ever need it it would be because of a job and mostly for a non-english person to choose it over anything it's because it has more prestige that other jobs so they teach us more sophisticated vocabulary so we don't look out of place (even if I think it's total bs)

Kate Steventon - Now that the genetics are catching up it the study of CF, they now know some people actually have really mild forms. They would have simply been considered sickly, plus maybe asthmatic, in the past, and be prone to being overly skinny, have digestive issues, and get out of a breath kinda easily and get colds a bit more often. These cases are now identifiable as being mild CF. Which I find frankly crazy! Those people can live into their 60s with good treatment. The more classic CF that people think of can indeed kill rather young, usually from infections. But they’ve found a lot more treatment options in the 20 years since my brother died. One of these is that the kids have planned inpatient stays with IV antibiotics (abx) every 6 months or so, even if they don’t have an active infection. Since CF causes overly thick mucus that you can’t clear, there’s pretty much always some very low level infection hanging around and they’ve found the routine abx helps to wipe those out, thus preventing more deadly infections from popping up. They also now have percussive vests that take the place of manual therapies to help shake the mucus loose. There are better meds for the mucus and airway restrictions. All of that to say living into the mid-20s isn’t super uncommon anymore. I think the life expectancy for an average case is closing in on 30, which is a huge improvement from the 12 or 13 it was when Dewey was diagnosed. And I know people who’ve had lung transplants who are thriving and enjoying life more than ever in their early and mid 30s.

Jake Forge - My brothers cause of death actually wasn’t the CF. In the end, it was a massive seizure that ended everything rather suddenly. He’d been having a great spell, went to his summer program for disabled kids, came home, Mom put him down for his nap, and next thing we knew, he was being rushed to the hospital. The local hospital airlifted him to the children’s hospital, but he was gone by the time they landed.

That's normal. Non native speakers are often insecure about their English not thinking it's up to par, so they are extra careful with their word usage. This often results in sentences that are grammatically correct but unnatural. Not only that, but OP has American relatives from which they likely learned English.

The only issue I saw was "shifted to" instead of "moved to". Synonym confusion.

I'm Indian. So I can tell you that most gen z kids in India are almost as fluent in English as they are in their first language, sometimes even more. However, when communicating with native English speakers, we tend to get a little insecure as to whether we are communicating properly or not.

It never ceases to amaze me that, because a person may have English as their second, or third, language, nevertheless spends hours getting their spelling, grammar, sentence construction, punctuation, and pronunciation, down on point, whereas pure Anglophones still manage to mangle the only language they know, perhaps out of laziness ... I'm almost 50, and I still haven't figured out why that is the case ...

Bob Ross two years ago at comic con, I was the first in line for an autograph signing and a staff member came up to me and gave the run down about when they would be starting. “And you’ll be first, but if it’s alright we’ve got a make a wish kid here. It's not even a lack of a heart, simply a lack of common decency. I personally don't care about the dying children, BUT, I'd never disrespect them in such a way that's directed to their condition b/c I have common decency.

I experienced something similar... My cousin (who had an unfortunate brain tumour which could not be removed so we knew he wasn’t going to make it) had gotten an opportunity with MAW and had chosen to go to Disney world in Orlando Florida. Since he was with MAW he was able to bring some family members with him. So he brought his family and my family. So anywhere we went we were treated by MAW and got through any lines. We also got fast passes to all the rides. Disney gave my cousin $150 to spend in the gift shop at the end of our trip. But when they gave him the gift. They did it in the store. Most people clapped and wished my cousin the best with his brain tumour. But 1 unhappy family was upset about my cousin getting “free money” from Disney. They made a scene in the gift shop and said that we don’t deserve the money because my cousin was “going to die soon anyway” and “the money will just be going to waste” I then say to them that we are with MAW and they made this all possible and they then say back to me “MAW is wasting their time with a useless kid like my cousin.” I then say back to them “I hope you do realize that MAW grants kids LIKE MY COUSIN’s wishes IF THEY ARE DYING or any sort of thing like that. So you nasty rude people can leave me and my family alone” they then proceed to yell at the employees and make a bigger scene. My cousin unfortunately died at the age of 11 (5 years ago.) but I will always remember the great time we had then. Except for that family. R.I.P. Carter. You are loved
