Yup. I work conventions quite often and the things we hear as staff are very interesting. I remember when I was walking around the vendor room seeing one young lady dressed as Chun Li and she was the absolute spitting image straight out of the video game. Everyone wanted a photo! When I went back to work, it got back to me that one older man got a little too fresh with her...big mistake, as she did know her martial arts and had hurt the guy in the most appropriate place. Many of course had witnessed the exchange, including nearby security, and the guy got thrown out of the convention. I don't know if it happened before or after I saw her, but it was a great story.

I am the mother of six children. Most of them are adults now, my youngest turns 17 next March. Typically when a toddler cries it's because they want something, it's not appropriate for them to have it, so they will cry, in an attempt to get their own way. Tantrums from a toddler means that mom is setting boundaries for their child on what is, and not, allowed. That is the sign of a good parent, not a neglectful one. I mean 'the terrible twos' aren't just called that because alliteration is fun! Also, most toddlers lack effective speech to express what they want, or need, so they will resort back to crying when they need something and don't know the words, or are incapable of, to express verbally what they need. For all intents and purposes, a toddler is simply a baby that can walk. Expecting a baby not to cry is ridiculous. Also, sometimes a toddler might be on the Autism Spectrum, too young to really be 'delayed' enough to evaluate, but a lot of characteristics will still manifest, one of which would be excessive tantrums for a variety of reasons. If you don't want to be disturbed by neighbors creating normal sounds, then perhaps apartment life isn't for you.

And perhaps it's not for parents of constantly crying children, either. Other people also have a right to have quiet in their homes. No one likes to hear fights, overly loud stereos or TVs, or loud parties, either, but those are reported all the time. Why shouldn't people report constant crying? My parents raised four kids and we didn't spend half the day crying.
@MsTemptation

Exactly. Neither of my two daughters threw tantrums because they were very chill. They use to look at the kids who were throwing tantrums like they were being ridiculous for no reason.😂😂

I heard nothing saying the baby cried half the day, or was crying constantly. Two or three crying fits per day for a toddler is normal. Op didn't over dramatize it so you don't need to either.

How nice for you that your children were docile. Mine weren't, they liked to run around, wrestle, climb trees, swim in our pool and play on our swing set. With the exception of my autistic children. They were a bit more intense. None of my children were docile though. Only one if still a child so, moot point.

My nephew is severely autistic and he did not have much control over the regulation of his emotions until he ended up in therapy and on medication. I must know how you addressed her tantrums as well as are handling the challenge of raising a special needs child. As for my nephew, he's quite a bit older now, but he you definitely did try to push boundaries when he was with me. I'm his uncle. When he was about 8, and already had a very good understanding of consequences to his actions, he decided to punt my Yorkie across the room like a football. He laughed and challenged me to discipline him stating I really couldn't because I wasn't his dad. It's worth pointing out, my older brother had already taken off by that point as being married and being a dad never really appealed to him. He just liked the act that created children. Sounds like a wonderful guy, doesn't he. He's currently in prison. Again. I called my nephew's mom on the spot and he was shocked that I did. She heard the dog yelping in the background and I told her what happened. She sighed then conceded: “Yeah. That sounds like something he would do.” I told her she was spoiling him and raising him to be a very ill-equipped adult. I told her that he already had enough challenges being special needs and he didn't need any more on his side by being turned into a butthole adult. She agreed with me and told me to spank him for hurting my dog. I asked her to repeat herself and held the phone up to my nephew's face. “Get him,” she said. I left the phone on speaker and whupped him. The next time he was over at my place, he was a perfect little angel and did not go near my dog.

When I was 4, we had a crappy a hole of a neighbor who was less understanding of my sister and me because I have Autism, and my sister had to wear headgear for a while. His wife later babysat for us, and he would physically abuse us. It didn't matter if something was an accident or on purpose; he would force you to apologize and then duct tape you. His wife later divorces him and later remarrys. Good riddance to him. Stuff that the other neighborhood kids did, I would be blamed for or if I accidentally split cereal he would scream at me. A woman should only be submissive to their man if they protect and provide for them. They each have their role in a family unit. Men and women are not equals, and whomever wants them to be is ignorant of nature. They each excel in different skills. Most people wouldn't want to leave their children in the care of a man like most people wouldn't want a woman saving them from a burning building, for example. My siblings and I ran security for several conventions in Texas and I can tell you Karen wouldn't be walking out with Security, she would be fitted for a nice silver bracelet set, and her son would be as well. The police take a very dim view of their behavior. There is a rule in every convention book I've ever seen that says "Costumes are NOT consent and No means NO. Any violation will result in your expulsion from the convention without refunds." And we've walked a few out to the waiting arms of the local constabulary for those who violate that rule. To be fair, he isn't wrong that he CAN say what he wants, so long as the location and method are reasonable. If he wasn't raising his voice so the students could here inside a classroom, it likely WPULD be 100% legal...and it should be. Everyone should be allowed to express their opinion. I find the sex ed story more horrifying than funny. That dad is teaching boys that it's okay to do whatever they want to a woman. And who knows how many of them took him seriously instead of just for laughs. It's scary that guys like him and Andrew Tate influence so many young men and teen boys into thinking they are owed a partner and owed sex from them. I would hate to be a young woman in the dating scene right now, never knowing if a guy is a decent human being or spends the whole time thinking about how to get in her pants regardless of her consent.

The good news is that their kind give themselves away pretty quickly. You'll be labeled a bitch for fighting back, but if you make sure the early dates are public, you're okay. I briefly dated one whose way of "asking for consent" was seeing if a girl would push him off when he placed his hand on her throat. He paid for that choice when he tried it on me. Got a paranoia of being choked, so that's a no-touch zone and nearly taking nails to his eyes discouraged him. I hear he's gotten better about actually asking since. So, yeah, you can't miss it if you're not love- or lust-blind.

Years later, OP had been working out and was no longer fat, but slim and fit. EM saw that and tried to force OP to re-date ex-GF, despite being the sole cause of the break-up. Because the simple fact of the matter is that is you have a lot of people with charged opinions but can't seem to calm down long enough to find practical solutions. There is both a legitimate argument to be made that parents should teach sex ed to their kids and not the state, there's also a legitimate argument to be made that the state is improperly teaching sex ed. That falls to the wayside in the era of 2-income households where both parents work and don't really have time to teach their kids much of anything, let alone sex ed. You have to understand something about teachers in general: they do the best they can with what they've got, but even their education is imperfect. Back when I was taking Health we were taught the Food Pyramid which turns out to be a bunch of corporate and government swill. Were the teachers evil for teaching me that? No, they were trying to do their best. Was the Food Pyramid still evil propaganda from the onset? Yes, yes it was and my life was significantly impacted adversely because of my indoctrination dressed up as education. The sad fact of the matter is that the Food Pyramid isn't an isolated incident, and even more sadly people are going to spend a lot of their adult lives unlearning a lot of the misinformation and malinformation they absorbed during their stay in the education system.

@@Bluedragon094 which kind of food pyramid did you learn? The one I learned 35 years ago still is more or less scientifically valid. Sugar still is the one thing you should consume the least of, fibers and proteins are still the basis of a healthy diet ... what are you even talking about? And honestly: even if they got it wrong, would random opinions of random people be better teaching material? Just look at the obesity crisis in the US and many other countries. Random people are clearly not qualified to say what a healthy diet looks like. They can't even stop stuffing themselves when it hurts. People are rather starting to demand fat acceptance (which is fine when just demanding to be treated with respect, but unhealthy when celebrating obesity is a perfectly healthy life choice) than to learn how to not stuff your face with cake, sugar and other non-essential nutrients.
@Bluedragon094
@Bluedragon094 11 месяцев назад
@@brag0001 I'm glad you asked... it's a sad tale, and a very long one that takes a great deal of exposition. _"which kind of food pyramid did you learn?"_ So basically the one where you had 6 to 11 servings of bread, cereal, rice, and pasta as the base. Above that you had 3 to 5 servings of vegetables to one side and the other 2 to 4 servings of fruit. Atop that still were the dairy section on one side that 2 to 3 servings and the meat on the other side with 2 to 3 servings. On the very top was sugars and oils and the warning to "use sparingly." _"The one I learned 35 years ago still is more or less scientifically valid."_ It isn't, and I'm, living, breathing proof of that fact. Unfortunately nutritional epidemiology is almost certainly mostly fraud and we'll never definitively know which bits until we do away with the Constitution and allow researchers to perform cruel human experimentation. It would require abducting 100,000s of people off the street for our randomization, locking them away in secure labs for our control, and then since most of the disease we suspect is caused by dietary choice manifests after the better part of half a century? This means our "volunteers" here must sacrifice at least that much of their life and if our suspicions are correct then suffer with the consequence of poor diet for the rest of the remainder of their lives all for the sake of scientific progress. Ethics would never sign off on it--and rightly so. There's no funding for such a study either. So the fact is the science will never be done and as such there's no science that can inform us on hard health outcomes in terms of dietary choice. And you could be forgiven for never knowing any of what I just said--and will say over the course of this post--because anybody can just go onto google and skim an abstract from a paper. A mere fraction could barely understand the jargon in the paper itself, let alone untangle it to see if the work done can be said to reflect the abstract, and considering how epidemiology points of data are adjusted? We're not even plotting on charts or in graphs the actual observations of the researchers. We're basically plotting what the researchers hoped to find, and let's not forget how the data is harvested in the first place. If someone's filling out a questionnaire about what they ate they very easily can be mistaken or outright lie about it to tip the scale to whatever ideological bent they have. Worse? In some of the older studies in the 80s... people were given questionnaires asking them about what they ate over the course of the last 2 years and people can barely remember what they ate the day prior. @@brag0001 _"Sugar still is the one thing you should consume the least of, fibers and proteins are still the basis of a healthy diet ... what are you even talking about?"_ If fiber was part of a healthy diet, then why are you a primate with a cecum but yet a cecum incapable of digesting the fiber? Like you have to understand... we know when we feed an obligate carnivore like a cat or a dog a vegan diet that they start doing horrifically rapidly and so we shouldn't do that, but since humans don't exhibit that same set of symptoms we assume it's just all good for humans, or at least omnivory is good for humans. Unfortunately though... have you ever considered that when we selectively bred the plants we eat over the course of last 10,000 years we did so by making them more easy to digest for our biological systems without any care nor concern if a dog or a cat could digest them as well? It doesn't mean they're fit for us to eat, just fitter than it would be for a cat or a dog to eat. Prior to 10,000 years? ... I mean we've isotope tested the collagen in the long bones of neanderthals and humans... for hundreds of thousands of years and almost certainly much longer humans were primarily carnivorous. _"And honestly: even if they got it wrong, would random opinions of random people be better teaching material?"_ Yes. At random is better than certain fraud. _"Just look at the obesity crisis in the US and many other countries. Random people are clearly not qualified to say what a healthy diet looks like."_ As someone who was formerly obese and learned of the randle cycle and how that nutritional calories as they apply to human metabolism are pure pseudoscience? Her excuse was "well it shouldn't matter we are all pagan here." I made the mistake of actually having lunch with her and a couple of her friends (who honestly weren't that bad) and it was truly disturbing how she couldnt stop graphically talking about sex the whole time. I left that lunch after 10 minutes, and heard shortly thereafter that she had been removed from the convention and was banned from ever attending again because of non-consent complaints. Which relieved me and many others, because what she was doing was violating every pagan belief that is ever taught, and she was all around bad news.

@@kranberry3318 Oh most people wouldn't believe some of the things people have said and done in our encounters. Here's an example. One of the things she likes to do (with a variety of things) is to dangle or drop them in front of her eyes as she'd look at whatever it was while tilting her head around, even tilting her head down so she could look through her eyelashes. We never understood the "why" behind this behavior, but it was clear she was getting something out of it as she'd often toss out a giggle here and there. It was fun most of the time watching her do this sort of thing as my hubby and I would try to figure out what she was seeing. On this one day we took all our kids to a local park with a picnic lunch so they all could play on the various playground equipment. Our daughter started out on the swing itself, but then she noticed the big pile of sand they had recently mounded up under the swing. She very quickly got out of the swing and plopped herself down on top of all that lovely sand. Then she proceeded to pick up handfuls of the sand and slowly dribble it down on the ground as she tilted and turned her head back and forth. Whatever she was seeing seemed to be particularly funny or enjoyable as the giggles were going non-stop. I don't think she'd been at this for 5 minutes when some guy came up to us insisting, we get her to move so his daughter could swing. We told him no as our daughter was there first and there were other swings available. (Not too many people were in the park that day, so we have no clue as to why he needed that swing.) He got very angry with us, yelling about how our "dummy" and other very rude names didn't deserve to be there with "normal" and "regular" kids. Actually, going so far as to point to 2 of our other kids as examples of those who didn't want to be around, "someone like her." My hubby and I had to exchange some significant looks at that point as we couldn't believe the stupid coming out of this man's mouth. I stood up and called out to my 3 other kids who came running back over. When asked directly if they had talked to the idiot now getting rather red-faced, they said "No". My hubby had started gathering up our stuff as we had agreed years earlier, we would never stay anywhere where someone was being rude or stupid. (Like I said, we ran into stuff like this all the time and we'd even explained as best we could to our "regular" kids.) I said to them I was sorry but I guess we had to go home. My youngest son, maybe 5 or 6 at this time immediately turned to the red-faced man and said something like this, "So you're the one being rude and stupid? What did you say about my sister? Why can't you mind your own business? She's not hurting anyone and she's enjoying the sand! Can't you hear her laughing?" Our youngest daughter burst into tears, saying, "The stupid man isn't going to hurt us is he?" (One of the reasons we had given to our kids as to why we'd leave such situations, as you just don't know what someone might do.) By this time the guy's face was edging more towards purple, but I couldn't let him go just yet. I pulled a disposable camera out of my purse and took a picture of him and handed it to my hubby who promptly went over to take pics of the license plate on his car. I told my younger daughter I didn't think he would hurt us, but we were taking steps to protect us just in case. Then I asked her to help me get her sister up out of the sand and get as much of that off her. My 2 boys came over to help too, helping to make a game of it as they often did by tickling her; which she loved. Then we left.

That sets of MASSIVE alarm bells!!!!!!!!!!!! EDIT : It got even worse! PUT HIM AND ALL PARENTS UNDER INVESTIGATION RIGHT NOW! I also love to go to (what my country's version of it is) comic con. I either cosplay as something anime or things i like (world war 2 related). Ive been asked to go on pictures with mostly kids and stuff and throw in a free hug/handshake (depending on age). They love it. I also always complement them on their cosplays if they have any. I really like comic con. Ive never been tried to get kissed or inapropiatly grabbed tough (thankfully) otherwise, alert security and they will be escorted outside and be banned. The kisses i got where indeed from like the 4-6 age range, usually my arm or cheeck, but nothing that i should have been worried about. And never met Karen parents. And if you ask rly cute and nicely, i'll go that extra mile (extra pictures, let them wear my headgear for the picture, etc....

*Story 1-* The only time my hubby and I called the cops on our neighbors was when *they* were throwing tantrums!!! They were older than us, and they were yelling so loudly, we could actually hear what they were saying! (Even if we weren’t next to the wall!!!) And they _technically_ weren’t “our neighbors” they lived on the floor above the people next to us! Lol

Story 3: Fellas, is it political to talk about sex-ed, including healthy relationships and consent? Also, "It's up to the parents, not the school to talk about subjects like these" is usually code for "I'm hiding this subject entirely from my kid" or "I'd rather teach my kid my bad beliefs" Also, from OP's description, the school's version is a pretty important subject to learn about, it includes avoiding toxic relationships. I'm confident that the guy can't do a better job, what I heard from the leaked syllabus sounds like something you'd hear from _those_ podcasts. Story 4: And this is why that class is important. To avoid stuff like that. He's definitely going to land on a registry if he doesn't drop that behavior and the mom's going to get sued if she doesn't drop her attitude

I was preschool teacher and worked with toddlers. Them having tantrums is usually their way of expressing frustration, anger and sometimes pain and sadness. Calling CPS and the sheriff was way out of line. The mother told them what to expect and that she was sorry in advance. OP has no idea what that little person and their mother are going through. Moving is tough on toddlers because they have to let go of things they love and this scares them. OP yes you are the a#$hole!

I always ignore the screaming child when it's clear they're retaliating against the parent's "no." I don't like listening to it but I greatly prefer a child screaming over dealing with an adult who's never been told no before in their life because their parents didn't want to deal with tantrums. Does OP not realize we have to go through a lot of kids' "BUT I WANT IIIIIIIIT" to avoid full grown adults doing the same?

Concerning the last story, there's a saying amongst cosplayers: "Cosplaying does not equal consent". One former cosplayer ended up losing several of her contracts because she habitually groped other convention attendees (I found out about her through an anime review channel I subscribe to.) Another case involved a woman snatching a little girl cosplaying as Sailor Moon's little sister just to take photos. I believe that, if the son doesn't wake up and smell the coffee, he'll end up on the list where he would be required to "make the rounds" informing all households that he's a convicted SO, EM or not.

I don't know Fluff, the guy teaching his own "Sex Ed for Real Men" sounds more scary than funny, especially given his views that only one persons consent mattered and the curriculum by the titles seemed to be more focused on getting the boys laid than worrying about consequences in how they went about it. Holy cow, that man who wanted to assert his own values in his own sex Ed class was capital-D disgusting! That’s a terrifying thought that someone can just create a class like that and lure vulnerable teenagers into their ideology. And to that man, I say, it is NOT political to teach children about consent and what healthy relationships look like! It’s just teaching children a little extra decency! Good lord that dude is crazy! And the woman in the final story is just as bad! Don’t EVER tell a child they can do whatever they want to a woman! Cosplay DOES NOT mean consent, and that is part of why most conventions have such tight security. Creeps exist and they must be taken care of straight away!

I'm going to throw my two cents in on the first story which might get me called an Ahole as well but just hear me out. I also would have called CPS since 3-4 tantrums a day does seem like it's a little much HOWEVER I would specify in my call that I'm simply worried about the kid and want more of a wellness check done since I can't prove that any actual neglect is going on if they see it that way then cool I've helped a kid and if not then I simply move on and have to deal with apartment life like anyone else. The fact that OP just couldn't let sleeping dogs lie is where they are the Ahole since they continued to bitch repeatedly to anyone that had any semblance of power over this mother which is where the true horror lies.

Just some food for thought on the 3rd story: Parents who try to stop their children from having access to sex-ed tend to be the same ones who do unspeakable things to them at home... maybe they're afraid that their children might realize what they're doing and expose them. Also, the 4th story has just showed us an example of what happens when children don't have those classes: they don't learn about consent and boundaries.

" stop their children from having access to sex-ed are tend to be the same ones who do unspeakable things to them at home". That is utter garbage. Prove it. @@sushiroll3795 Aaah, so you are one of these people that believe the only way sexual information can be relayed is in a formalized setting in a school. That is ignorance in itself. How DID we survive all these thousands of years without sex education being formalized? I'll tell you how.. we taught our children ourselves. As we are still (so far) allowed to do. Do you think a kindergartener should be taught about "self gratification"? There are sex experts that say "yes". Of course, you may be one of those that DO believe that. But I don't. As I said, I personally, do not have anything against the sex ed that I had back in the 80's. But I DO have problems with people slandering a whole group of people just because that group believe sex should be taught by the parents (who, I wonder if you realize, know a thing or two about it, considering they had offspring). I definitely agree that there's a lot in public school sex education that needs to be restricted and up to the parents. Your story is good is because something like consent, which is a legal issue, is something that is not up for discussion, especially because of the definition of assault. The guy was nuts for opposing that. I would be upset if they were trying to introduce "alternative" things to my kids without telling me. There's even recent legislation recommending discussing watching pron, something that has been proven to be harmful to both individuals and people in relationships, which I'll be telling my own kids not to do - That's one line that I would not allow to be crossed for my own children.
