No. Why does she need access with the door locked? Sounds like she planned to go through everything in the room instead of sleep

Yup. Just tell the biotch and her mama's boy that she can have the bedroom after you remove ALL you personal belongings to the "guest" room. Hubby can sleep with his mama or take the couch.

A thought crossed my mind: I wonder if this permissiveness toward his mother is the norm for the husband or if he asked her to drop by unexpectedly & snoop around on his wife. Maybe he thinks OP is hiding something from him & enlisted his mom to find out for him. That definitely would be an interesting take on the subject.

The next time they go visit the MILs house, OP should demand they get to sleep in their master bedroom with the door locked just to see how MIL reacts. If she reacts badly, then point out she now knows the reason why she had a problem with MILs demands when she was a guest at their house.

@@foofoo3344 That makes it more likely that she was just an a-hole. Otherwise, well, it's also possible she was demented, maybe Levy's Body Dementia, I think they can have not only delusions but also hallucinate things. And it's not necessarily obvious when only seeing the person shortly. However most forms of dementia also seem to include problems with balance and moving in general, so if she faked needing a walker, yep, a-hole seems more likely. There could still have been some bona fide mental problems other than just general bad character but her having hallucinations and seriously thinking the neighbors were being noisy is less likely to be one of those.

Plz! When you buy a home, make sure the survey is up to date and read it! And, surprisingly often, you can find it online (more for the lot number & divisions). If you put thousand of dollar, make sure of what you are buying! I mean, buildozer are not a small thing to play arround. If he had cut wire or pipes, you would have been in very very big trouble running after the guy for damage that you kind of didn't stop him to do (and not authorized). @mizu7662
@mizu7662 10 месяцев назад
Its entirely possible she was hallucinating and that OP basically scared the piss out of a dementia sufferer then lied about doing it to get her in trouble with the police for filing a 'false' report about him startling her. I mean, don't get me wrong, its possible she was just a jerk that decided she hated them. But the fact she literally called the cops on them when nobody was home and it would be obvious she was lying about them making noise if she was in touch with reality makes it seem much more likely to me that she had some sort of mental disorder.

But crying when OP approaches smacks of dementia/god knows what.

There's another Reddit post that I have heard read on RU-vid more than once. Involving a racist couple. They were constantly filing complaints against another couple. Accusing them of all sorts of things. Like being too loud. The apartment building had not only security, but armed security. The second couple had to go out of the country for a week or so. The couple told one of the security guards. Asking that he keep an eye on their apartment. The security guard said yes, und not to tell anyone else about their plans. Sure enough, the racist couple unaware that the target of their hate wasn't even home. Continued to make complaints. A formal review was called. The racist wife tried to object to the security guard being armed. She was told that his sidearm *WAS* a part of his uniform. Even though when making their complaints the racist couple used all sorts of racial slurs. At the meeting they denied having done so. But that the noise complaints were accurate. Not surprisingly, they had nothing to say when asked how an apartment that had been empty for a week or so. Und that was checked on regularly by the security guards. Was able to make noise. Needless to say, the racist couple was evicted.

The last story. No not the a hole. In fact. Visit her house and tell her that she should sleep on the couch so that they can sleep in the master bedroom so they can lock it. If she says no. Start complaining about the hypocrisy and how she only wants to snoop in people's personal belongings. That or buy some........ahem....... adult toys and dolls without the husband knowing. When she visits. Take out personal stuff. Put the adult toys around and hide the adult dolls in there. Let her snoop and let her see them and be scared. Also stick in some road kills and some other stuff.

I’m an older woman in my 70’s and I find preposterous that someone, man or woman, would take that as an excuse to be obnoxious for no good reasons. Usually you get the respect you give to others no matter the age. Starting at 8:50, the comment pretty summarizes my thoughts.

Absolutely. I'm 65 & I was raised on the same principle, treat people with the same respect you want from them. After my Dad died, my Mom started going to a senior center. She made friends with a group of 3 other Women her age (early to mid-70s). One day, she & I were in a fast-food restaurant, which was jam-packed with customers. When it was Mom's turn to order her food she just went off on the cashier. I was astonished & horrified. My Parents drilled into us 3 kids proper etiquette & respect. If it were any of the 3 of us, who said what she did, both of our Parents would have smacked us across the mouth & given us a tongue-lashing that would have made us want to crawl under a rock. When I said to my Mom, "What the hell was that?" She replied, "At my age", & I cut her off. I said, "Rude is rude at any age, shame on you. I know you picked up these bad habits from your friends at the senior center, & as Dad used to say to us If Your Idiot Friends On The Street Told You To Jump Off The Bklyn Bridge, would you?" My Mom immediately apologized to me, & I said, pointing at the cashier, "It's not me to whom you owe an apology." My Mom turned to the cashier & with great embarrassment, apologized to her. The cashier looked at me & mouthed the words, "Thank You". Rude is rude no matter who you are. I speak & act toward people exactly the way I DEMAND they speak & act toward me. Most of the time, people will rise to the occasion, & speak & act in kind. Otherwise, if they continue their nonsense, I refuse to engage with them by either ignoring them/not responding to them, or walking away from them.

Aaay! Good on all of you for being over the hill and still technologically educated! I'm 34 so I'm not a child but to you guys I guess I'm still pretty young. I live in a retirement town. I love it here because it's quiet, low crime rate, almost everyone is polite with each other, using old school manners and whatnot. None of the current modern day social issues happen here. As long as you're respectful and don't butt your nose into anyone's business, they're just as polite and respectful back. However, having said that, even people in their early 50's here, I'd say the better half of close to 75%, are completely modern technology ignorant. Anything more advanced than a flip phone or a computer running anything older than Windows 98 is like a mystifying enigma to them. If they were to post a comment on RU-vid, like you three have, they'd be the stereotypical typing in all caps, using broken grammar, and most likely either commenting on the wrong video or just making a comment that has little to nothing to do with the content of the video or the conversation chain. I hope all 3 of you have the bestest of days and that you all have a wonderful thanksgiving, a beautiful Christmas and an amazing new year! Thank you so very much for giving me hope that the older generation can and do know how to use modern tech, and especially the Internet!

I had one spoiled rotten women actually call her veterinarian for her crusty white dog and tell him that the dog was acting funny and wasn't right ever since I got there, the dog hated me apparently, and I had only been there maybe an hour and the dog was constipated for 3 days. I was the reason for it all... I had another one call someone she knew 30 minutes after I arrived look me right in the eye as she told this person that I "took a piece a cake out of the kitchen and stood there starring at her while I ate it laughing at her", literally NONE of that happened. They giggled about their lies, they thought it was funny to be mean to someone, there was nothing mentally deficient about these people, they were just horrible spoiled country club wives who were monsters in the 60s and still are today.

We had a neighbor like the one in story3, except she wasn't old. She'd call the office on us several times a day and complain about the noise my kids were making. At some point, her grandkids moved in with her and there was screaming, yelling, cursing, loud music among other things. When other residents complained, she'd lie and say that it was us. Finally the office called saying that if we didn't quiet down, they would start eviction processes. We told them that no one was home and for them to go to our apartment if they didn't believe us. They never bothered us again, but the neighbor had to move out6 months later. (sorry for the long comment)

Story 3 kind of sounds like OP got an old lady with dementia kicked out of her house and in trouble with the police, honestly. The fact that she called the cops when nobody was home and it would be obvious to the responding officers no noise was being made (on top of her reaction to OP and his wife trying to interact with her) strongly suggests to me she had mental health problems instead of just being some jerk that randomly decided to harass them in stupidly ineffective ways.

My roommates and I (no one married but all working) never had any parties, get togethers, and barely talked to ANYONE there. And *still* in the last few months, some busybodies lodged a handful of complaints: we had a cat in the crawl space above our unit (no, I’m allergic and there’s no way to segregate the rooms), we removed the numbers on our door (no, it’s a freaking renovated high school - our numbers are ABOVE the door), we improperly disposed of something (no, the dumpster sign literally said EITHER inside it or on the curb outside the fence). And these complaints went to our landlord who lives in another state and not us directly. Landlord just….wtf’d that. Didn’t believe any of it. Thank sanity we got outta dodge.

OP & MIL who visited unannounced & wanted to sleep in her room with the door locked: First & foremost, my Parents knew that they had to call me before just 'dropping by' or I wouldn't let them into my apartment, period. Second, when you visit people for overnight stays, your hosts are the ones who assign you a place to sleep. If you don't like your hosts' arrangements, get a damn hotel room. The Son is a spineless wonder. Who the hell allows anyone to just 'drop by' especially with the expectation of staying overnight? That MIL has some damn nerve. I wonder how she would react if OP & her Son showed up at her house, & said, "We're staying overnight, in your bedroom, with the door locked." Now, we dont have a fence to the alley out back, nor do we have a front fence dividing our properties. What divides our property out front is lilac bushes and arborvitaes. Now, i dont throw organic matetial in the trash, i put in in the compost in the back yard. So scraps of food, bread, etc will go in the compost pile. The other day, the neighbor came over and informed me that i couldn't put food in my compost because her dog was eating it. I even went with him into his apartment where he had me listen because he could still hear it. When I told him I couldn't (and yes I was being honest about that) he was quite disappointed. I ended up coming down to him with the wine I got from my work as a Christmas present that year as a sign of good will. A week or two later he told me that he had ended up going to the doctor because he realized there could actually be something wrong with him. As far as I recall the reason for it was that a nerve in his ear had gotten too close to a blood vessel. And what he actually heard was his own heartbeat. I really felt sorry for him during the whole ordeal and that didn't lessen that. He was the sweetest guy. I think he still lives down there. But I haven't seen or heard from him in a couple of years. This is just to say that a neighbour complaining unreasonably about noise doesn't have to mean said person is an a**hole. They might just be ill.

Years ago my grandparents moved from the city, to a small " hobby farm" following my grandfather's retirement, we kids spent a good amount of time there, and made friends with some of the local kids, all was good except for one neighbor, an elderly woman who lived alone, who absolutely hated kids, ( even though the neighbors on both sides of her and directly across the street from her had them) every time she saw us any where near her property line, she would call the sheriff, walk past her house at night, she'd call the sheriff, swim in the neighbors pool late in the evening, call the sheriff, be riding the neighbors horses through the fields behind her property, call the sheriff, if she saw us going hunting, ( during hunting season) call the sheriff, and on and on, aud nauseam, well one evening, we had gone fishing, in a nearby lake that had some really big trout, our foray was successful, and we caught several beauties, the night before we had been hanging out with her neighbors daughters by their pool listening to some quiet music, snacking having a few soft drinks, and just enjoying, the summer weather, and being mellow, and who should appear, you've got it the sheriff! This nasty old piece of work, had called them, complaining that, our music was too loud, the girls were indecently exposing them selves, ( they were wearing two piece bathing suits but not bikinis or thongs, that wouldn't come into fashion until years later) that we were drinking, and we were out after curfew, ( in this rural area there was no such thing as a curfew) when the sheriff saw for himself that none of these things were even remotely true, he apologized for the disturbance and left, cue our revenge, as we were cleaning our catch my buddy had an idea, taking the biggest of the trout, he cut its head off, propped open its mouth with tooth picks like it was going to bite, waited for dark, and placed it into the old lady's roadside mail box, early the next morning as we met up with my buddy in his garage, getting ready to go to our part time jobs on a nearby farm, ( it was haying season, and we hired out to a local farmer, in exchange for pocket money, and hunting privileges) when the old hag, came out, to get her paper, and put some mail in the box, as she did almost every morning, when she opened the box, her scream could be heard in the next county, what happened next was even more hilarious, she ran into her house, emerged with an old shotgun, and blew her mailbox to pieces, another neighbor, called the sheriff thinking that the old lady had finally lost it, screaming, while waving the gun around, the sheriff was quick to respond, and wound up laughing his head off after he saw the remains of her mailbox, with the trout head still being in recognizable condition he confiscated the shotgun, ( since 1968 our state has required a state police issued firearms owners identification card in order to legally possess guns or ammunition, something the old lady didn't have, thus the confiscation) after which, he approached us still laughing, and said only " Boy's I know you've got more than enough reason to dislike, this old bat, but take it easy on her will ya she almost had a heart attack! Before leaving still laughing his head off.

Story 3) Old woman. From what I heard I'll say YTA. WHY? I'm fairly certain from her reaction to OP's wife attempted approach and OP kicking her his door as she past it, all this tells me this old lady was scared. All her calls for imagined violations was simply her way to try and keep people from staying. What should have happened by the second or third time, should have been a police chaperoned introduction with actual offers of help from OP and his wife. Too many older women who live alone after the passing of their husbands or close male relative that let them feel protected and now feel vulnerable and are scared of their own shadows. Realistically this old lady should be living in an independent living senior facility, where she would be surrounded by people her age that she might trust more. The issue I think was she'd lived in her apartment for years and as we know, the news whether local or national, if it bleeds it leads. This can wear on the minds of people as they age and feel less capable of defending themselves. Not like the widows of farmers who will drag out the old 12 gauge to take out a varment when they were 80 years old. I admit there can be some pretty nasty old biddies who are just plain iron core b*tches but most are nice but a bit paranoid about home invasions and what appear to be not nice or uncaring people.

During the 7 years ive lived in my apartment, ive had 3 different neighbors that had the apartment right on my bedroom walls. One side is their bathroom and the other is the kitchen. I know this from the sounds i can hear lol. Ive only had a real problem with one of them. A woman that would constantly play music really loud from 11pm to 6am, or constantly screaming at someone who was either visiting or on the phone. Usually from her bathroom, right next to my head while im trying to sleep. Once i went over at 2 am to politely ask her to turn the music down. I knocked and she yelled "Who the f is knocking on my door at 2am" she opened, i explained that im her neighbor, its late, and to please tuen the music down. She cut me off with a short "yeah" and slammed the door, but did turn it down a little, but not much. Then the next time she was in the bathroom, taking a shower while yelling at somebody, so i knocked on the wall. You know, the universal sign that i can hear you and youre being a little loud. Well she beats on the wall 10x harder with her fist back. So i just say that im trying to sleep. She then yells back about how much she pays in rent (i pay more) and that she basically can do whatever she wants. I record the whole thing and send it to my landlord. She was gone a week later. The guy befror her was super nice and i hardly ever heard him, even in the bathroom. He even once apologized for having his tv up loud while watching a movie, even though i never heard a thing. Paid me $20 to borrow my wifi on a temporary guest account for a night just to watch Netflix. The guy thats in there now is most likely hard of hearing, his tv is up a little loud at night and his guests talk loudly during the day, but nothing that i cant drown out with the sound from a fan. You know, regular apartment noises. If you have a problem with your neighbors, talk to them about it first. Only when you know they are just jerks and dont care about anyone but themselves, should you complain to someone higher up to take care of it.

If I lived alone in a place with one bedroom and a guest showed up, then yeah I might take the couch and let them sleep in my bed. If I had another bedroom, then that is where they would go, no compromises. If they demanded to take the master bed, whether I had a guest room or not, I would offer to let them sleep anywhere in the world, as long as its on the other side of my locked front door. If I'm living with a significant other and share the bedroom, then the guest can eff the eff off if they don't like the sleeping arrangements we offer. Also, its OUR bedroom, meaning consent must come from both parties before making the offer of a trade.
