Back in high school (this was only a couple of years ago, I graduated somewhat recently), there was this one English teacher I had whose whole lesson plan for that year was centered around "families" and was literally impossible to deal with/answer correctly if you had anything other than a stereotypical family dynamic, it was insane, and people kept treating me like I was the crazy one for not being comfortable with it

Former English teacher here. One unit in Middle School was supposed to be about families, but I always modified it with different readings and examples to start discussion about the definition of family. Some of my students didn't live with their birth families, but rather with family of choice or other relatives, due to issues at home. Eventually we got to the conclusion that family is what you make of it, so family trees were just an optional background assignment to help organize and explain stories passed down as oral tradition- other options were available for that grade. Only seems fair to include everyone. 🤷

Yeah, family assignments in school can be...weird. A classmate in middle school was sent to the office for "refusing" to do an assignment. He tried to explain that he didn't know what his father looked like because he'd never met him a bunch of different ways. After a particularly mean reply from the teacher telling him to just ask his mom, he shouted "I CAN'T!!! SHE DOESN'T KNOW EITHER!!!!!". Yeah, I didn't make the connection about what that probably meant till adulthood, my kid brain just assumed she was blind or something. Like she could be blind, but a different answer is way more likely. That classmate was transferred from our class. No one should end up in that situation.

I always felt awkward whenever we had an assignment related to our family history. My grandparents and great-grandparents were interned during the second world war. I found it difficult to decide how much detail to include because I didn't want to have to be the one to educate my classmates and teachers about our own history when I was still a child. Just because I know a lot about my family history and can describe it in detail (with primary sources!) doesn't mean I'm comfortable explaining it or answering peoples' questions.

She didn't even plan on leaving either. Though might've if things kept getting worse though. And I had some other thoughts. Getting married to someone of way way higher standing (recall she was fairly rich before the step family walked in) basically "forced" Cinderella to move in with him because a lot of the time, a guy's wife will move in with him. The exception would be if Cinderella were richer then him, then they probably would've moved into her family house (with the evil step family) unless someone between Cinderella's family or her husband's puts in the money to buy or build a new house. Or if Cinderella and her fiance were willing/convinced to start from scratch.

No, she gets revarded for not even thinking of a better future, for being perfectly passive and "happy" with her situation anyway. So since she was not a golddigger, or immorally showed any non perfectly polite feminin traits, she got the prince.... And no, I do blame her or anyone in her position, I blame the story for it's framing and the messed up moral and actually victim blamy, like if you do not get magically rescued by a prince, it's your fault, for you where not perfectly obidient enough and therefor have not earned it....

I'm pretty sure superfetation requires more than one uterus. Otherwise it's just twins, and that usually has a pretty small window of time.
@LilKitLen
@LilKitLen 9 месяцев назад
@@16poetisaIt can happen without uterus didelphys! Our model of "you ovulate one egg once per month/cycle" is.... not entirely accurate, and pregnancy doesn't always send the message to not release the next egg. It is incredibly rare because you need a situation in which the first pregnancy did not stop the next ovulation from happening, and the chance increases if you are a "multiple ovulator" (more than one at a time or more than one per cycle), but it has occurred. Oh yeah edit to add: Multiple ovulation is how fraternal (non identical) twins occur, when two eggs are released at once (at the same time), so it's not that uncommon that one egg once per cycle isn't accurate.

As someone who works with antique swords and daggers on occasion (I work at an auction house), the sound of a sword hissing out of a sheathe comes from a sort of locking mechanism in the opening of the sheathe. Sometimes you really have to push them in towards the hilt and they click in place. It's probably there to stop the blade from falling out. It's not a thing on all of them, but they do make that sound if you draw them fast

This story will appear to be very random at first but bear with me: I'm a pregnant lady. Recently, an OBGYN tried to use a speculum to look inside of my vagina, and it wasn't the right size. This is how I learned that they are actually different size of speculums, and when I said "... They are different sizes of these?! Huh, that makes sense when you think about it, I didn't know that!" she explained to me that yes, they were different sizes, because some women are naturally smaller, bigger, have had children or (this is the part related to the video) that some pregnant women that come for a check up are even virgins, physically speaking, because they're lesbians who have been artificially inseminated with a device that's far smaller than a penis. So, depending on your definition of virginity, IT IS possible to be a mom who's a virgin. For example: if you're asexual and have been artificially inseminated. The more you know!

I used to go to a private Catholic school and once had an a question on an assignment marked wrong because I TOLD THE TRUTH. I was asked on a test in bible study to say who my godparent was and how they fulfilled their role for me growing up. I stated that I did not have one and got my answer marked wrong. I vividly remember the teacher getting mad because I was somehow supposed to assume without being told (at only 8 years old) that I was expected to lie so that I could show that I understood the question. I pointed out that lying was a sin and I would not have assumed my teacher wanted me to sin on a religion class assignment. She was fuming mad. 😂

A cute story about family (names changed for privacy): My older sister and I used to have a great aunt called Greta. She was never called anything but Greta. Not aunt Greta or aunty or anything. Once, when my sister was around 4, she and my mom were talking about how grandma was actually called Mabel, and great grandma was called Julie and so on. Suddenly my sister asked: "Then what's Greta called?" 😂

"fun" story about school questions about family: At the start of every year we had to do a presentation about our summer vacation and I've never ever been able to get a passing grade for this. Why you ask? Well because we were pretty poor and couldn't really afford to do anything special. So I had to start every year with a presentation that went like "I spent my vacation at home. we played a lot of board games. that's it". Afterwards a lot of teachers asked questions like "Didn't you go to another country?" no. "Surely you atleast went to a theme park or something?" no sir. "There has to be one special thing you did." yes, the board games. A couple of teachers even accused me of lying because "Everyone does atleast one special thing during vacation time" So yeah, I had to start every year with telling my class I was poor. Fun
@cheese5595
@cheese5595 10 месяцев назад
And just for clarification: I'm not mad at my mother for this. she had to take care of her 5 children all on her own and she still did her utmost best to make our vacations fun for us and I am thankfull for it. I wasn't lying when I said that the times that we played board games were special for me. Which also sais a lot about my second least favorite presentation we had to do in school "your family/family tree" but that's a story for another day xD

Fun Fact: The "giant cucumber" in that photo is actually an under ripe watermelon. That's what watermelons look like on the inside when you pick them before they're fully ripened. The flesh gradually turns redder starting from the center and moving outwards. If you look at the size of the gourd as the father is carrying it, it's somewhat small compared to a store bought watermelon, because it was not allowed to mature. It can be quite hard to tell when exactly a watermelon is ripe if you've never grown them before, and this process can take a long time, so you need to have enough weeks in your growing season. A watermelon is ripe when it develops a yellow patch on its underside, and the nearby tendrils on the vine start to wilt. Watermelons and cucumbers are both part of the Cucurbitaceae family though, and the rind of a watermelon is edible and can be used the same exact way as cucumbers. You can make pickles out of them, which are pretty good.

I remember in math class when I was in elementary school they asked us to find out what our parents made as a salary to do some sort of math problem and I believe I was one of the only kids whose parent wouldn't say what they made and the teacher acted like it was a problem. A bit late to this but my family had a similar issue twice (Well, 3 times) over, my mom left before my first birthday, so I'd make cards for my aunt. Some 3rd grade teacher decided this wasn't allowed and I was required to make one for my mother, so, being a spiteful little 8 year old, I made one saying something along the lines of "Happy Mothers day, hope your other kid made a nicer card!" and got in trouble. Then some summer camp my cousins both went to did something similar for fathers day. My oldest cousin's dad was definitely not a good man, and her card was going to be for our grandad. They didn't take "my dad's in jail" very well. Meanwhile her little (half)sister basically said "I'm not sending this to Chicago, grandpa's here so I'm making him one" Why do so many people pick a fight with a child over their own household?

Then the day comes that the assignment is due, and teacher asks who wants to start reading theirs first. It’s like- if you would just TELL ME beforehand that we were gonna have to read it out loud, I would have written about something less deeply personal! It’s one thing handing in a writing assignment to your teacher where they’ll be the only one to read it, and unless it’s concerning, never talk about it. It’s a whole other thing to literally read out your most deep, personal, thoughts and experiences to your class, when most of them are barely acquaintances at best, and some may even use it against you. 3:50 Same, we started studying Holocaust literature in 7th grade and it was so upsetting to me that I honestly zoned out for a lot of it. Then a test got passed out to see if we had been paying attention, and there was an essay question asking to write what conditions were like in the camps or something really intense for 12-year-olds to be describing in detail. I just wrote, "I can't do this. It's too painful," which should have been the teacher's queue that MAYBE this subject was a little too much for this class, but instead they just took point off and made a note that this wasn't an acceptable way to answer an essay question. I always felt conflicted because, you know, was I just making excuses? Was I being lazy? Was I being a big baby? Was I using the pain of other people as a clever way to weasel out of taking a 7th grade test? Several years later, I found out that my great-great grandmother was a Russian Jew who fled the pogroms, so maybe that's why studying Holocaust material has always made me feel like my body is full of angry bees. :/

I had the hilariously opposite problem; I’m at the end of a chain of half-sisters (so me, my half-sister on my mom’s side, her half-sisters on her dad’s side, etc.) so when it came time to do family trees, I could never fit all of us on the paper. Teachers were usually mildly confused when the nice clean “pyramid” they expected us to draw had a weird bulge at the parent level and then got mostly cut off because I never knew much about their family histories past their parents. The only time this was a problem was when one teacher tried to tell me to redo the assignment because I only had one “real” sister.
@spongecakes1986

I once had a friend who I took Spanish with, and his mom was the teacher. His parents are divorced, so when the teacher was drawing the family tree as an example, she left out my friend's dad (who also worked at the same school by the way). One of my classmates asked where the dad was, and she just said "he doesn't get to be on here." That student didn't ask anymore questions and we (even people who didn't know)all laughed about it, with only my friend, the teacher, and I having context. Don't think my friend ever told his dad about this, but I wonder what his reaction would've been.

My son got a teacher sacked (which is pretty impossible in the UK) when he was 4. She asked him to draw a picture of his family - so he did... "Me, my sister, my mum and Rachel" Teacher - "where is your dad" Son "I don't have a dad" Teacher - "don't be silly, everyone has got a dad" She really laid into him about it, dismissed his explanation the "Rachel is my other mum" with "don't be silly, nobody has 2 mums". He got very upset, came home crying. I went into see the head teacher and explained the situation. The head teacher knew me well, as my daughter had already been in the school 5 years, and was well liked. The teacher went "on sick leave" the next day, and never returned. Technically she wasn't sacked, she was "asked to resign" because she refused to accept that she had pupils with same sex parents.

So, the sword "shing" sound is from the metal sheath used in fencing and with rapiers and other thrusting oriented swords, though they were still uncommon - you didn't need to worry about dulling the cutting edge, so you didn't need to line a metal sheath with wood, or construct the sheath entirely out of wood. This came with the added benefit of being able to use the sheath as a weapon too.

He had bought it from someone England in a trashy state and restored it. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, and 250000 Euros. The tank ended up being less of a problem, but the 8,8 cm Flak gun was serious (considered a weapon of war, so illegal to own by civilians). He also was required by the judge to sell the tank and flak gun within two years. Oh, and you should see the pictures of the tank being pulled out of the cellar. It makes you wonder how he got it in there. You can technically own a tank as a civilian, given that it is demilitarised (can't shoot) and you get the appropriate licenses. The guy also owned a torpedo, a mortar, various machine- and stormguns, half- and full automatic pistols and more than 1000 shots ammunition.

The Mulan one was not a good example because she nearly got executed the second they found out she's not a man, that's because at the era where that story takes place it was bad luck and illegal to have a woman soldier so from their perspective she's literally sabotaging their chance of winning by angering the spirits. Edit: C'mon guys, if you're gonna make an argument against me at least make it make sense or worthwhile, please? Don't say "It's a fictional movie so there's no reason to care about the laws/beliefs" because the entire reason Hugo the dragon is there is because he's supposed to keep her identity a secret BECAUSE they would kill her, they straight up were about to kill her right after she seemingly ended the war and killed Kan (as far as they could tell). And don't say "You just don't understand jokes/parody" because a parody or joke trying to laugh at the absurdity of something can only be funny if the joke actually makes sense in the given context, saying "They won't care she's a girl because the dragon is a bigger deal" is not a good argument when they literally established at the start that they will kill her on the spot if she got caught and when she did she was actually about to be killed, and its something that took inspiration from REAL LIFE. Make good arguments... Please, it's getting annoying...

Mulan is a price of fiction loosely based on a piece of fiction. While there were certainly periods of Chinese history where that was true, “The Ballad of Mulan” (upon which Mulan is based) existed to make the point that duty to one’s country was more important than gender or sex. Even if that weren’t the case, Mulan the Disney movie is Chinese flavoured American fiction. There is no “era” with actual laws or people with real beliefs that have to be represented for historical accuracy.

Because that's literally the first thing that went into play the second she got caught.
