@@thestrangemanreturnsI don’t doubt it. Some people are just talented that way. There used to be a kid in my school who could play about 20 instruments, but flute was his specialty. He grew up to be a world famous Latin musician. His name was Dave Valentin. I’ve also heard that Paul McCartney can play about 40 instruments. Don’t know for sure but it wouldn’t really surprise me. Stevie Wonder is another one. Ever see him play drums? Total badass.
@thestrangemanreturns
@thestrangemanreturns 5 месяцев назад
No I am not doubting it, I am a musician so I know there ae many multi instrumentalist but I know the full story behind the marketing ploy. A lot of instruments he includes in that 20 are played the same way.@@MsAppassionata
@TheColdrush22
@TheColdrush22 3 месяца назад
@@thestrangemanreturns Also the people saying someone "mastered" the instruments is just repeated by someone who isn't a musician. You never stop learning your instrument as a musician. And I have played drums, bass, guitar, harmonica, banjo, ukulele, piano, keyboards, dobro, (and then you can pad your resume by saying acoustic guitar, classical guitar, resonator guitar, slide guitar, double-necked electric guitar, etc.) on recordings. That's 14 instruments right there. I would be embarrassed to hear someone call me a multi-instrumentalist that has mastered 14+ instruments. And to the person mentioning Stevie Wonder on drums, he's not that good. Listen to the inconsistent beat on "I Believe (when I Fall in Love it Will Be Forever). One of my favorite musicians and one of my favorite songs in the world, but the drums are NOT good. It sort of adds to the charm of the song, but I wouldn't hire him to play drums. Edit: oh, I also have a digeridoo, a bongo, maracas, and a penny whistle too. I even played the side of a clothes dryer with a soft drum mallet for the sound of a bass drum once, and put a bunch of loose change in a paper bag as a high hat/tambourine effect. 20 instruments and climbing!! (Oh, and the "self-taught" brag is also weird. I am self-taught on everything but the guitar. and I suck at all of them.)

The actual intro in its entirety: "Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today to get through this thing we call Life. Electric words and life means forever and that's a mighty long time. But I'm here to tell you, there's something else. The Afterworld. A world of Neverending happiness. You can always see the Sun. Day or night. So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills, you know the one, Dr. Every-thing-will-be-alright. Instead of asking how much of your time is left, ask him how much of your mind baby. Because in this life, things are much harder than the Afterworld. This life, you're on your own. So when the elevator tries to bring you down, GO CRAZY!

@@vbvermont The video was made to the 3:48 "7-Inch Single Edit" - pop radio isn't going to play a 7 minute song, so most longer songs are edited down to 3-4 minutes max. MTV videos were generally the same, with a handful of exceptions like the Thriller video, and even then, after it's first run, an edited, shorter version is usually what's played. Even the album version of Let's Go Crazy (4:38) isn't the full-length version from the movie, but the full-length (7:35) "Special Dance Mix" version was originally released on 12" in '84 (which I own) and a few years ago on the Purple Rain "Deluxe Expanded Edition" CD set.

He was ahead of the curve in MANY ways. Not only is there an entire "sound" named after him: Minneapolis Funk; but he was the first to have downloadable music on the internet, he pushed so many boundaries and had no fear about it, even standing up for recording artists' rights in their bad deals with the music label execs. This is why some people think he was murdered and that the "fake prescription drugs" he had in his possession were purposely there...and also, since this is "Let's Go Crazy" - he did die in an elevator....think about THAT. Prince is probably the most underrated guitarist of all time because, IMHO, he was the heir to Hendrix. He was the evolution of Jimi Hendrix melded with some James Brown and some Miles Davis. Whenever I see GOAT guitar player lists I rarely see Prince crack the top 10 and, again IMHO, he was AT LEAST TOP 3 and probably #2 just a hair behind Jimi.

@@LiberalsArePoop That could be a lot of fun. There are a lot out there. They love Johnny Cash - "Ring of Fire' by him, then the Home Free cover would be another one. Or Johnny Cash doing "Tennessee Flat Top Box" then Rosanne Cash's version. Personal verdict on these - Johnny Cash version of "Ring of Fire", Rosanne's version of "TFTB".

I think a lot of people get caught up in the “Prince” of it all. The showmanship, the theatrics, the sheer unadulterated magnetism but Prince Rogers Nelson was a musical genius. The man played 27 instruments and most of those were self taught. His first few albums, he wrote, produced, sang and played literally every single note. Prince was one of the best musicians of his generation. Full Stop.

Eric Clapton was asked one time “what’s it like to be the greatest guitar player alive?” and he said “I don’t know,you need to ask Prince”. Prince played all of the instruments on his albums. He was a pure genius and had all of the quirks that often come with being a genius

Still one the all-time best soundtracks I've ever heard. Every song is a real banger. People throw the word "genius" around for anything and everything these days...but.. this man was a self-taught literal creative, musical genius.. not many in music history, regardless of genre, more talented than Prince. I think a great many people slept on Prince or overlooked his musical abilities because of his flamboyant and controversial appearances and style. Criminally underrated musician. Icon..Legend..

"Let's Go Crazy" followed "When Doves Cry" as the 2nd single released from Prince's 1984 movie "Purple Rain." Altogether, 5 singles were released from the LP. "Let's Go Crazy" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (2 weeks), #1 on the the R&B/Soul chart (1 week) and #1 on the Dance chart (1 week) just as "When Doves Cry" had peaked @ #1 on all 3 charts - except "WDC" stayed @ #1 longer on each chart (Hot 100 = 8 weeks, R&B/Soul = 5 weeks & Dance = 6 weeks. The "Purple Rain" LP was Prince's peak just as "Thriller" was for Michael Jackson.

People that have been long time Prince fans already know, but for those that don't Prince is a true musical virtuoso. By that I mean he is one of the few that can pick up any instrument and not only be able to play it, but can easily master it. He is a fabulous singer, guitarist, percussionist, pianists, strings, woodwinds and many more. Not only that, but most of his studio albums were completely done by him. He played every instrument and also mixed and produced that final product. The myth, the man the legend. Prince Nelson Rogers. RIP❤.

Prince was a true genius. I am still so upset that he died so young. The first time I saw him live in concert was in the early '80's before Purple Rain. His opening acts Vanity 6 and Morris Day and the Time did their thing, he came out and made love to a bed on stage, it was wild. Saw him live 5 more times, no one can compare to his talent. Watch his live performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction of George Harrison doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and other greats. It's insane.
