TSA is literally just a bunch of creeps and idiots. I was on a class trip to Europe once. High school do everyone's a minor. We all have to go through the metal detector, fairly standard. Girl in front of me goes through, she's very attractive. Metal detector goes off and some greasy TSA weirdo comes over to make sure it was the underwire in her bra. I walked through, no issue. I was a 17 year old male. It wasn't until I was putting my shoes back on that I realized I'd walked through the metal detector wearing my watch. So the machine was sensitive enough to detect the metal in an underwire bra but not sensitive enough to detect my plainly visible watch on my wrist?

@@QueenofTaterTots Yeah his method of checking was pretty disgusting too. Literally felt between, around and underneath her breasts, touched her sides and hips, basically grabbed her ass etc, all over the underwire in her bra yet my steel and silver watch evidently didn't set anything off. I went through TSA a few years back with my dad. I was wearing my knee brace knowing my trip would take a toll on my knee. I told TSA I had medal in the brace to help bend my knee when I walked. They made me go through the scanner then said I must be hiding something so I need to take it off so they can put it through the bag scanner. They all stood there watching me struggle to take it off and not put any unnecessary weight on it. All the people in line started yelling at the agents for forcing me to do this, after it finally got off they offered me a chair to sit in. My stubborn ass said no you made it inconvenient for me and didn’t believe me so now we are going to do this my way. Scan showed only metal in my brace was what I told them and everybody in line yelled even more. I limped a little more dramatically out of line to put it back on. So many people apologized for the TSA. Made my trip all the better

Several years ago going through TSA I watched as they ordered an elderly man probably close to 80 or more to remove his Prosthetic foot AND STAND UP! . I absolutely yelled for a supervisor who came over and did a number on the agent. Some of these people take jobs because it gives them the power they don’t have otherwise in their life. The man was wearing a military baseball cap obviously he had served in the military. He was very quiet and compliant but after it was over turned to me and thanked me. I think he had learned to follow instructions.

My dad is handicapped. Has been exactly since I was born. He has a brace, a walker and had spring in his eye. Needless to say TSA has to pat him down and search extensively. He makes it a show to start moaning at them. If they think a man who has no control of his small muscle groups or even can stay balanced when standing up has the capacity to sneak a bomb in then he wasn't gonna treat them with any respect. I think they were more concerned about me when I started laughing my ass off at seemingly nothing. The man has no shame and is always happy to drag the TSA down a peg.

A coworkers daughter went through the screening. She wore open toed sandals, a sundress and nothing else. She was likely a terrorist so she removed the sandals then told to go behind a partition and strip. The partition was only on 1 side so open on the other 3. She was only wearing the sundress this point. She dropped the dress right there completely naked in the airport and said see nothing hidden. They were not happy.

Oh. My. God. I’m a type 1 diabetic and the amount of TSA stories I have is ridiculous. Nowadays, I can go through the scanner, they sense something, I have to be Pat down and my fingers wiped. It’s not too bad. However, 10+ years ago (when I was a little over 11 years old), I went to Paris with my family. This was my second experience in an airport. All of a sudden an alarm goes off, and I’m shoved into a glass box without my mom and being yelled at in a language I don’t understand. I start throwing a fit for my mom because I’m scared, and she can’t go anywhere near the box as they wait for someone to search me. Finally, after what felt like 10min (probably shorter but again, panicked child). A nice lady came, did a quick pat down, glared at one of the employees and let me go. I’m still traumatized.

I work in aviation security in the UK, and it really bugs me that some agents just can't chill tf out with the job. It sounds like you triggered an explosives detection device. They're _extremely_ sensitive and produce an insane number of false positives especially if not calibrated regularly. I've had similar (but much tamer, maybe it's the workforce or because I'm staff and have had the vetting beforehand to get the security clearance) experiences just clearing security to get into work, being asthmatic there's something in my inhaler that's a component of explosives, idk what though. Last time it happened was Xmas Day 2019. It's happened 3 times during my 5½ years working where I do.

Not as traumatizing but still: my former boss is diabetic. At the time we were returning from a business trip to Turkey. He used a pen not a pump and had his equipment with him at all times. I learned a long time ago that, as a customer, the employee says they're trying to save you time and money... Listen to them! Restaurants, most stores, and outlet employees get paid hourly and gain nothing by trying to help get you a better price. Yeah, there are the upsells but there is a huge difference between that and the employee able to tell you the price difference of what they're suggesting.
@josephinenelan4204

Everywhere except fast food. They can't do math, and the single sandwich and a drink from the choices I wanted, were always less than the combo they would say was "cheaper" or then turned out the types I wanted couldn't be combined and it took longer because of a miscommunication. So now my foot is down on that one. Fast food places, saves at least time for me to just "I understand, but that's what I want..." and let them do a little eye roll or "oookay!" and think I'm dumb.
@kaimagnus5760
@kaimagnus5760 2 года назад
I only upsell when the deal is better than the standard price. Much to the frustration of my former retail employeers, I have Zero company loyalty. So if the customer is about to get screwed by a "deal" some middle mannager dreamed up I will 100% of the time let the customer know they're about to get screwed over. Same when I worked fast food. I'd fully disclose to the customer exactly how much the "premium" add ons cost and occationally ring up what they were wanting in a way that they still got what they asked for but payed less in the process. And all because my mannager had the audacity to try and schedual me for a double shift when I told her upfront I wouldnt do those.
@bloodybutterflygaming1242
@bloodybutterflygaming1242 2 года назад
@@josephinenelan4204 meanwhile, my experience working fast food was people screaming at me wanting to just be right because THEY couldn't do math when I tried to do things that were objectively cheaper. Ie: people ordering the two cheeseburger meal no cheese when I have already learned from experience that it's actually cheaper to ring two hamburgers, fry, and drink separate than it is to pay the extra for the sake of the combo. Or the people who wanted to get a combo with water as their drink (a cup of water being something that wasn't charged for and the system blatantly wouldn't let us ring in as the drink choice for a combo) and then screamed at me because they weren't rang for a combo and I "should have just rang it as a Coke and told them I want water instead!" even though that 1) would have cost them more and 2) would have made us had to waste product because drinks are automated by a machine in drive-thru and we can't just tell it to "make this Coke a water instead". So maybe don't be so self-righteous to look down on someone because of what their job is. It's one thing to call out individual employees who did something wrong, it's another to attack anyone in that position based on what those individual employees may have done.
@josephinenelan4204
@josephinenelan4204 2 года назад
@@bloodybutterflygaming1242 Yeah, well when the chicken sandwich I wanted was $3 and I want the $2 lemonade, and I am told it's cheaper to combo so I do... then my receipt is $9. Oh, or adding fries I never wanted, which is a waste of food. I've tried to go with the combo for simple requests, and it's always near double or once I say what I want as a drink (not fountain) I'm told that isn't included. I'm not talking about party packs or large family orders. Self righteous much yourself? Why is it so rude for me to just say "I get it, just ring it up?" over fighting with someone over the counter or wasting time because I need it clarified to be sure I get the non fountain drink and no fries and I know the price instead of some surprise?
@bloodybutterflygaming1242
@bloodybutterflygaming1242 2 года назад
@@josephinenelan4204 it's being self righteous to respond to someone pointing out that employees are generally trying to be helpful and decide that because you've had individual cases of fast food employees messing up and/or being rude, to announce that it's "everyone except fast food" and that fast food workers are all trying to screw you over. Again: it's one thing to call out the specific employees in the examples you're giving. It's another to take those examples and say that means everyone in fast food who ever says they're trying to save you money is doing what those employees did, and make a blanket statement about people in that job position "not being able to do math", which is what you're doing.

I once saw a video of a woman wearing one of those dresses that look like a long jacket going through US TSA security. I think this was a year or two after September 11th. The TSA made her take off her dress, thinking it was a jacket and the woman was crying/pleading with the agent that it was a dress. Well security forcefully pulled this woman's dress off of her and she was left in her underwear in the security checkpoint. Not sure if it was a stunt, but it looked real.🤦‍♂️

I used to work at a TSA checkpoint and have dealt with this situation a number of times. Many times in this situation, A doctor will just tell people not to have it scanned because he 1 - just dosen't like TSA or 2 - just dosen't understand the scanning equipment and just erroring on the side of caution, which is fine. I could go into the science as someone who worked in TSA and has a bachelors in computers but basically what OP is saying is she would rather someone do a full pat down her kid rather that go thru a scanner that would expose the medical device to a cell phone signal.

@@syankeee thank you for the explanation. I was unaware of how the scanners worked. @@syankeee What kind of scanners are we talking about? Some metal detectors are powerful enough to mess with unshielded electronics, because they're using magnetic fields to detect metals. I used to have a digital watch where some would set off the alarm on it. While that's no big deal for a watch, and was even kind of funny, triggering some random function on a medical device could be serious. And the TSA is not known for having universal standard equipment at all locations, last I checked; and I imagine there are different international standards of equipment as well. So it's no wonder doctors er on the side of caution.

I once went to an airport while wearing a holter monitor (to those of you uninitiated, it's a device that basically records your heart rate and electrical signal for an extended period of time to help diagnose heart issues. It generally has several nodes connected to a device that can fit into your pocket, although I've heard there's even smaller designs now? Anyway). I got up to tsa and informed an agent that I was "wearing a medical device that I couldn't take off" and therefore wanted a pat down. I get an indifferent nod. I get up to the part of TSA where you put your stuff in bins. I tell another agent "hi, I'm the one with a medical device that I can't take off, so I can't go through the scanner and need a pat down". The agent clearly did not hear about me. No worries, I figured that they now knew about me. I get up to the end of the line and I'm told to go through. I tell them I can't. "Why??" They ask. "I am. Wearing a medical device. That I can't take off." Beat. "Can you take it off?" I want to cry in the middle of this dang airport from frustration. Eventually after no joke, like half an hour of TSA agents taking me to a back room and having me take my shirt off so they could see everything and swab test everything (which was, uncomfortable to say the least), I finally got through. 0/10 would not recommend

My Dad used to work in a company that made medical equipment. Top-of-the-line, cutting edge medical equipment. They had developed brand new medical equipment, that doctors REALLY liked, and wanted to buy more like it. Then, the owner decided he wanted to retire, so he sold it. He sold it to "a couple of suits," who did not know anything about medical equipment. What do these jerks do? The FIRST thing they did was to lay off "superfluous personnel." Anyone whose job they decided was not necessary to the running of the business got the axe. They decided "That Research and Development department doesn't actually PRODUCE anything. They're just costing an arm and a leg, and not making us any money. We'll get rid of them, and hire more sales staff." They laid off the entire department that DESIGNED NEW PRODUCTS, for a company that made NEW products. That is what they did. They weren't some large-scale manufacturers of the old tried-and-true, like stethoscopes and thermometers. They made NEW equipment, diagnostic equipment, specialized equipment. CUTTING EDGE equipment. And now, all they could do was make more of the same. I heard they went out of business in two years. Serves them right.

Two stories regarding TSA: 1) my sister-in-law was going through O'Hare returning from her mother's funeral, carrying the mother's cremains in a bronze urn in her carry-on luggage. The TSA agent insisted that she empty the urn so they could check that the contents weren't contraband (explosives, sharps, firearms, etc.). SIL had a total breakdown, which attracted the attention of a supervisor with more than one working brain cell, and she was eventually allowed to board her flight without having to dump mom's cremains out on the counter; and 2) my wife is confined to a wheelchair. Since the wheelchair is metal, the TSA agents required her to move to a wooden chair while they wanded the wheelchair, then started wanding her and got a very strong "metallic object" signal from the wand when they checked her right leg. They couldn't figure out why a bare leg and foot was giving a "metallic object" signal until I told them to move the chair she was sitting in two feet to the side. Her foot was immediately over an I-beam supporting the terminal floor, and the wand was detecting the I-beam. We almost missed our flight over that one.

Pre-pay fees should be completely illegal. "Oh, you're gonna pay us now so that we can't collect thousands in interest overtime? We can't have you do that, since we'd make less money, so if you do that, we're going to charge you a lot of money." -- "Wait, if I pay in full, you're charging me more because it means I won't be paying more in interest? That's not my problem. Take that fee and shove it where the sun don't shine." What company argues about having to pay less than 10 cents for bags? Is your company really doing so badly that you can't cover a dollar a month for some plastic bags? It truly shows how evil a company's leaders can be when they cut things out for the laborer when skimming a small percentage of their own salary would be just as easy. But, what do I know? I'm not the leader or owner of some greedy corporation whose mission statement is to show a bigger profit than last year at all costs.

Yeah my mortgage got sold, I got a letter about two missed payments, complete bull, they claimed it was late (it was not), the man who I spoke with was a bit of an ass, informing me because it was late, my interest was going up, and they also added on late payment fee's, a processing fee, and a service fee. So I asked to speak to manager, he was even worse, I repeatedly told him that I didn't take my mortgage out with their company, but he was acting entitled like "Yeah you're screwed, you now have to pay xxxx.xx a month now." I just hung up. The conversation was getting nowhere so I gathered everything I had, went to a bank, met with a really nice lady who's name was Karen (irony.) showed her everything, even played her the audio from the call (oopsie I'm in a one party consent state.) She was shocked and just couldn't believe this guys audacity and how he spoke to me, my credit is close to perfect (I check it almost daily.) and I was able re-finance my mortgage with them with a much lower interest rate. Now my payments are actually a lot lower. (I still pay them extra.) Then around two months later, the old mortgage company called back, and at first I pretended like I didn't know who they are, but then I just couldn't help myself, and I told them "Hey I took you're advice, I went to a bank, they we're rather appalled at your behavior and they way you spoke to me, but I was able to get everything taken care of and I saved a lot of money." *If you're mortgage lender treats you like crap, just find a bank, or if you bank with multiple banks like me visit both. A former cow-orker was an early-bird, getting up at 4 no matter what, and rather than sit home doing chores, he'd go to work early (5-6), open the place, clean up, same like The Opie in the story. Management bitched about having the lights and hvac turned on "hours early" for "just one person", so he said f it, and started coming in at 9. Next-earliest opener might be at 8:00 to 8:30, and on hot summer days, the place would still be sweltering by 9 as there wasn't enough time for the cool air to actually cool down the walls, furniture, other heat-sinks that'd still happily release heat back into the room no matter how cold the air was coming out the vents.

Even with the difference nt uniform, cleaning trolley, and mop/broom) this was my favourite comic strip to share with retail people. Sadly though, our managers literally never had our backs, and their constant bowing down to abusive customer, lost the store an insane amount of money, n dragged one of the best locations in the country, into one of the worse. We used to have the A-team of security guards, including a former member of Turkish special forces, but every time they were about to grab a shoplifter, the managers would interfere, wanting to steal credit, and screw it up. They even had to get the company head of security to come down to the store n tell the managers to pack it in, but they kept going till 99% of the security team had quit and been replaced by a mix of agency guards and normal retail staff who only had the power to stand at the security podium and watch cameras. You could literally walk right past them with a tv, and they couldn't stop you. At this point, the store's had to shut down their tech department, their fish monger, close off a good few aisles to be used as overflow for the warehouse full of shit they can't sell, and close one of the store's two entrances, and lie and say it's broken and they're waiting for a part (they been waiting for almost a decade) but really they only closed it because they can't afford to have two security guards on at the same time to watch both doors. And of course instead of taking responsibility, the managers will constantly blame floor staff for their own incompetence, and take all their anger out on them. When I left that job, I worked at a small charity store, n was bloody shocked to realise a nice manager could actually exist 😂

the second one is similar to a situation we had with a real estate agent, when we first started renting, we were renting through a small real estate that treated us really well, over the first 3 years we lived there, we had 2 rental inspections (in the contract they were meant to be ever 3 months for the first year and 6 monthly after, they house was also for sale, but in that time they only had 1 person serious enough about the purchase for an inspection, as they have to give us 1 weeks notice) they ended up being bought out by a larger place that's when shit hit the fan. they were bringing people through every month, some of the people clearly had not even looked at the photos online as they were shocked that there were stairs etc. they were doing rental inspections as often as the could and kept sending us threatening text messages saying we were going to be evicted because we missed a payment even through at that point we were over a month ahead on the weekly payments. they then brought in a payment processing company, that would do all the paper work for them for the low, low fee of $15 per transaction and of course they did not want to pay that for themselves, so that was added on top of our rent. we contacted the local tenants rights organisation to see if this was even legal. it was, as long as a fee-free payment method was also available, they had to accept cash at their local office. so every fortnight we would go in and pay in cash and they absolutely hated it, it meant they had to get off their fat asses and do some work for a change, file the paperwork and do a bank run right after as they could not have cash on the premises.

Eh, I get the Uber complaint, but it's significantly different than the mortgage thing. Dude was stupid for getting a mortgage with a early payoff penalty. If he didn't read his mortgage agreement before signing it that's his own stupidity. @@attackofthedoggan6471 that's not how it works when another company takes over. When you sign a mortgage contract, it's still the contract the new company will use. A LOT of lenders have an early payoff penalty. It's one of the reasons why it's better to get pre-approved through your bank (depending on the bank) or credit union, rather than going with a lender. Credit unions are the best, imo, but it all depends on your wants/needs. Banks and credit unions are also much better at very clearly explaining the process and contract, rather than rushing you through it - especially the fine print, which is where the early payoff penalty always is. My mum went through this when she bought a house and I made sure not to make the same mistake and used Navy Fed instead.

Last story where OP takes the bus to work and gets in 45 minutes early: I had a similar situation. When I got my job I had a car. Then it dies and I had to start using the horrible bus system. I had a choice of two buses; one got me to work an hour early and the other got me to work 15 minutes late. I opted for the earlier bus. The first day taking the bus I got to my office, pulled out my newspaper, put my feet up, drank cocoa (I hate coffee) while I relaxed and read my paper. The boss, actually the owner of the company, happened to see me and asked me what's up. I explained about the bus situation, and instead of thanking me for taking the early bus and not coming in late, he ordered me to pick up a broom and sweep up the place. I tried to explain that I wasn't willing to do that because 1, I wasn't on the clock yet and 2, it sure wasn't in my job description to act as a janitor. He said too bad so sad and said if you're in the building you're on the job and the job was whatever he said it was. I swept. The next day I seriously considered taking the later bus and just be late, but seeing how he reacted to my presence I decided I needed the job and didn't want to get fired. So I took the earlier bus, but instead of reporting to my desk, I went to a fast food place nearby, put my feet up, drank cocoa, relaxed and read my paper. Then I reported to my desk right on time. He never said he was upset that he wasn't getting free janitorial service after that. In fact he never mentioned it again. But I did that for a year.

Half on each side, but get half of them to stop and the ship would literally be moving only because of the waves. No sense of direction or speed until it eventually ran around or struck a rock that would cause it to sink. From story 2: I once visited a new doctor for a consultation. The lady at the desk put down a physical instead of consultation. My insurance would not cover that which I already knew. I told the lady my insurance wouldn't cover it and she said "Its in the system now. It's only $10.00". I told the doctor the receptionist was being hard with me and if this is how he wants the visits to go this would be my first and last visit. I called my bank and told them what I wanted to do so they don't think I'm being off or whatever. They agreed and I sent the doctor .50 cents a month. After the fourth month I got a notice from the doctor that everything was square. All he got from me was $2.00.

Not only did the second story save the $15 convenience fee, but he also saved more than that by paying early on the payments he did make. It's essentially the same as a mortgage accelerator that some banks offer. I was offered one by a major bank in the 90s. We had a 30-year loan, and they sent us an offer about 4 years in to restructure the payments from the first of the month to the first and 15th, along with an optional increase of about $50 in monthly payment total split over the 2 payments. The combo of the extra and paying half of the payment half of a month early would decrease the term from 30 years to 22, with a massive reduction in interest paid over the term. We got rid of the house about 3 years later, though, so we didn't finish.

I've been one of the app drivers. They're not profitable for the driver, because all the driver gets is the delivery fee and the tip. I've been payed $3 to go from a small town I picked the food up at, 30 minutes away to the middle of the big city I was delivering it to. The time they give us doesn't take the traffic of any area in count, and you are threatened to be kicked off the app if you miss the time a certain amount of times. I quit doing it after a few trips.

Pre-payment fees are the worst, and stuff that's owed to the government is even moreso. Around the time my wife and I got engaged, we came into a bit of money, a sum of about 40k of stocks and bonds. She owed about 10k due to college fees; not to the college mind you, but to whatever organization owned by the government oversees scholastic fees like that. We took 10k out of what we had in stocks, and called to get it all paid off. It took about 2 and a half hours to connect to the right person, and when we said we wanted to pay it in full, they tried to give us the run around and have us doing a payment plan. One that would last for the next 10 years, bleeding us for what would end up being like 7,000 more dollars than she actually owed. They put us on hold for another hour or so until they finally let us pay it in full- after making up some BS early payment fee that brought the total up from 9,500 dollars or so to 13 grand. We took out the remaining necessary when they put us back on hold for another 30 minutes and finished paying it in full.

Those "convenience fees" are a joke. Broward County has been using them for YEARS now, and make absolutely no sense. Its just one more cash grab that should be illegal.

When he read that the OP was subbing in a band on a “strip casino” my first thought was *not* a casino on the Vegas strip. I thought “a casino, with strippers and a live band”. Which I reasoned was the new thing now. Because we have to try harder to get people out and about after the pandemic, right? Tell me I’m not the only one who had this thought? And now the TSA is trying to get in on the stripper game

I've never had a mortgage or anything, but I don't understand why those types of companies would penalize paying early. You'd think that they'd actually prefer that you pay before payment is actually due. I certainly would. I understand penalizing late payments, but not early ones.
@insu_na
@insu_na 2 года назад
Because you have to pay interest on the remaining amount. If you pay early they don't earn anything from interest so they try to get it through another method

You get a better interest rate by taking a closed term because they are guaranteed to get the interest. An open term is penalty free bit the rate is higher. A contract has to benefit both sides.

I once had something similar to the KFC story when I worked at Wendy's, at least the first half of it. I once had a lady order a Single cheeseburger, as I'm supposed to, I asked her if she wanted to make that a combo. She said no, then proceeded to order a small fry and small drink. I again told her that I could ring it all up together as a combo, and it would be cheaper. She then got angry and told me she did NOT want the combo. So, I wrang it all in separately, and she ended up having to pay more for what was essentially a small #1 combo.

I went on a flight with a family member who uses a cane. At the security check they had her put the cane on the x-ray machine belt and hobble through the metal detector, which went off. So, they told her to spread her legs and put out her arms. She told them that she couldn't do that and they started to get mad. Her response was to remind them of the cane and tell them that she would fall over if they made her do that. So, they got her cane and made her do it (or as close as she could with the cane). We had forgotten to mention that she has a metal surgical clip. The older TSA agent asked the younger one why she had taken away her cane in the first place. Her response was because its metal. I think it gets to be auto pilot and if they aren't careful dehumanize people without realizing it.

Im a Type 1 diabetic, i used to have an insulin pump, going through air ports was a nightmare, the last two times i went i had recently cleaned my pump and it set off the bomb detectors twice...so i got to be strip searched by air port security at the ripe age of 16 twice in 1 trip and guess who refuses to fly or ever go near an air port again! This girl!! Its been almost a decade sense i've been on a plane/airport i have driven and or just passed on any trip sense then. And from the stories i hear the USA is one of the only countries this strict about it, despite plane design and other things having changed about air travel sense 9/11 everyone else on the planet seems largely relaxed still when it comes to air travel so its obvious this type of insane security isnt needed
