I have never understood the ego and paranoia of micromanagers. Typically, people are very conscientious of the job they do so when you hire them, train them, and get them up to speed they need to be let go to do the job. Bad employees will usually show their hands in an open workplace but great employees will too. I have had too much experience with micromanagers on ego trips in my life and have taken great pleasure in letting them roast themselves... And they do, without fail. Micromanaging is the very definition of mental masturbation.
@YannSchmidt

Everything is in "micromanagers". Someone who like to micromanage also like for everything to be perfect in execution and time.
@jaspr1999
@jaspr1999 2 года назад
@@YannSchmidt - A lot of people micromanage themselves in the job they do. A manager that wastes time in pointing out every perceived flaw in an employee's job is wasting, not only the labor hours of the employee as well as the manager but is eroding the employee's confidence and lowering overall morale. A micromanaging supervisor is seen, by employees, as having nothing better to do than proving they have zero faith in the employees. Micromanaging may show improved metrics in the short term but overall production will fail to meet any expectations if it continues. Employees will just stop caring about their jobs and have no reason to care if everything will lead to criticism. For the employee, it's a lose-lose situation.

Micro managers and spineless bosses are fueling the “age of resignation”. No one wants to spend their hard earned skills and experience serving a boss who doesn’t trust them to do a single thing, but at the same thing thrusts all responsibility onto their employees. It’s actually just a defense mechanism that weak willed employers use to deflect both responsibility and blame. Bosses like that deserve to go out of business!

I've hearing stories of managers protecting their employees from terrible middle/upper management and/or customers. I agreed with something that an employer did to protect their employee from a team of an awful general manager and nasty customer. Someone actually commented and told me I was wrong and that the protector manager probably told the story in a way that made them look good. I said if the story was even half true I still agreed with them. He replied again thanking me for making him laugh and said that I would never be successful at managing a business. He said that no matter what they say or do you have to treat the customer as if they are right or else you will eventually go out of business. I politely I formed him that the reason I feel so strongly about this topic is because I do run a business and would never let a customer talk to one of my employees like that. My business is doing amazing and I credit large part of that to the fact that I have happy, respected and trusting employees. I added that people like him are the reason that some people feel like they can just bully their way into getting getting whatever they want and that happy employees will get him way further than sucking up to every toxic customer than comes through the door. He then just called me a liar and that there is no way I could run a successful business doing things the way I said I do. I just ignored him at that point but OMG. I really wish that owners/managers would stop catering to rude customers then maybe there would be less of them when they realize that it doesn't work anymore. TLDR: jerk tells me I'd never be able to run a business if I don't believe that the customer is always right. Then calls me a liar when I told him that I do run a very successful business because I know that one of the major keys to success is happy employees.

A long time ago I worked at a Wendys that was owned and operated by a husband and wife, and they actually came in to do their fair share of work. Now fast food is fast food, it's never going to be a GREAT place to work, but those two took no shit from anyone. One day we had some shady bastard try to get free food by bringing up a burger that had just a few bites left, complain that it was made wrong, and demand that it be remade for free. After going back and forth for about a minute in which the owner tried to be polite and the customer got progressively more belligerent, and finally uttered the classic "The customer is always right" line. The owner responded with "In your case the customer is a fucking idiot. Get the hell out of my store and never come back."

She was able to inform that woman what a bitch she is and I bet at some point she prob felt she deserved jt. And maybe next time she'll think before she responds. Idk, your way is just too close to hate culture. The best form of revenge is kindness. Either it will piss them off that you were nice or it will maybe affect them and make them nicer in return. Everyone has had a bad day and they might lash out. That extra bit of being nice might really help someone, even if they don't always deserve kindness.

From the experience I've had; when a employer/company/whatever hires a consulting firm, the end begins as soon as the contract is signed. And the bubble popped after about a year of filling up. It popped about 6 weeks ago. So not only did my boss (also the owner of the IT firm I work at) lose our biggest contract, which it was by a country mile, their best in-house tech quit after getting thrown under the bus. I can almost guarantee they'll come crawling back because they'll realize that we would literally leave another client and go to whatever office needed worked on. The loss of said tech just doubles the pain.

Micromanaging GF reminds me of a restaurant I worked in years ago. There were two owners, equal partners, but one owner's wife would come in and throw her, not inconsiderable, weight around. I was the Sous chef, and she hated me - she was caught on more than one occasion lying about me in order to get me fired. Her husband was told that the next time she came anywhere near the kitchen the entire staff would walk. This was later extended to the whole restaurant, effectively banning the owner's wife from entering... hilarious.

The staffing issues story is *Exactly* how you should respond when management is trying to squeeze your team as much as possible. Letting go of people and not replacing them, hoping that everyone is going to give their 250% just to keep the work going as good as before. Instead do as OP instructed his team. They were definitely giving it their "all" but not single drop more than that. As long as things keep chugging along just fine then management will continue on that path until there's only a skeleton crew of severely overworked and thus underpaid workers. But hey, it would look amazing for management and they will get their full bonuses!. So remember kids, only ever go that extra mile for your work if you *know* you are gonna be compensated and recognized accordingly.

A homeless guy got to it first, used one of her cards to buy some food from the nearby golden arches. He was caught the next day and spent a week in jail. The cops did also find me the same day, the Karen claimed I knew the homeless person (I did not) and planned to rob her. I simply said to the cops I tried to get her attention to give her the wallet back, but since she was so rude I chucked it across the parking lot to make her get it. I was let off with a warning was told next time just bring the wallet to customer service.

I also worked in auto repair. If an engineer thinks they can save the manufacturer a few seconds on the assembly line, it will add up to more profit on new car sales. However, when that results in a car that is more expensive to repair, customers say "I'll never buy another one" and that ruins the companies profitability. I would often encounter that with an owner of as VW Jetta or GTI. Other times, whoever writes the repair manual does a terrible job of it. Sometimes something will be changed in the middle of a production run, but nobody ever tells you that, you find out when something doesn't match.

11:43 As an engineer I will proudly state: Don't fuck with how I do my job unless you want problems, we all work the way we do because it's the best way for us to do it. I'm lucky I've always had great management and customers but people I've worked with have had PLENTY of stories.

The engineer time story reminds me of when my work tried to dictate how much over time we did. They tried to demand that we should be off the clock at exactly the time we closed. They learned shortly that an extra thirty to forty minutes is what is needed for us to be able to finish up cleaning and putting away everything. Guess they don't like the morning shift getting angry because we didn't have time to do everything we need to do.

In the Wallet story I would have kept it for about a month then wrapped it up,address it to her & drop it off in a mailbox. The hassle she would have gone through to cancel cards,get new ones including a new DL & worrying about identity theft would be fitting. Plus I would have added a note inside saying"don't be a such a b**** to someone just trying to help you. Hope you learned a lesson Karen".

Story with the wallet. In Russia, if you try to bring a wallet back, more often then not a person will claim that there was "three months worth of salary there, where is it?!!" Janitors are actually instructed to throw wallets away.

"Many of whom had been teachers for longer than the consultants had been alive." Yeah, that's exactly what the problem is. I ended years behind on my education because of a crapton of teachers who were close to retirement, done trying, and insistent that their decades old teaching methods were perfect.

6 weeks vs. 1 week Notice Story: If I'd been OP, I'd have politely but firmly told the Girlfriend that "she is NOT in my Chain of Command and has no Authority to give me instructions OR interfere with my work so please leave me alone." I'd also inform the Boss what his Girlfriend is doing and how it's costing the Business money (slowing me down, making me do work twice because she messed up the File organization etc.) and please make sure she stops interfering with my work...

"if the code wasn't custom built for its purpose, it wasn't worth anything." Bruh that guy has either never been the legwork developer or only did it for a short time. I don't have much experience in the coding world but even I know it's stupid to build things from scratch that are already out there. sure, some things are good to customize for your unique needs, but you definitely don't need to do EVERYTHING new. if it ain't broke, don't fix it. coders borrow open source code like borrowed puzzle pieces all the time.

This is for anyone that needs to know. If you tape their id from the wallet on the outside and drop it into a blue usps box it legally has to be sent to the address on the id. And if you do this even out of spite knowing the person it belongs to is sitting right next to you, its legal and it has to be mailed out since its technically mail and could be considered tampering if retrieved from the box by anyone besides a mailman. And just to clarify, it will take sometimes up to 2 weeks for them to receive their id back.
