r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, OP lives with her narcissistic parents, who try to control her every move. They attempt to punish OP by forcing her to stay in her room. OP happily complies and spends that time working on artwork, which becomes incredibly popular on Patreon. Her Patreon grows and grows, and eventually she starts making $10,000/month! Once her parents learn that she's rolling in cash, they suddenly start singing a different tune with her.

the airport security thing reminds me of an experience i had in london. Because i had a lot of makeup/beauty products that was concidered liquids and you are limited to 100ml per product but also everything has to fit in those 1L plastic bags i took solid shampoo, conditionner and a shower jelly all from lush... the agent made a big deal about the shower jelly, saying " it kinda counts as liquids, also your bag is too full because when i grabbed it it opens so please leave your perfume as well.. i could see she just wanted the stuff. Luckily someone above her in rank passed by and hear me arguing and said: "yeah no showe jelly is not a liquid, and even if the bag opens from the weight when being picked up she clearly made the effort to pack every single makeup item like mascara when we're usually leniant about those. so let her pass"

Absolutely had that happen with my mother when I left as soon as I could around 19, a charity helping young people from broken homes helped me escape, I then went very low contact and she constantly whined, asked for money, asked why I didn’t love her, continued to gaslight me, and continued to enable my brothers abuse. She’d ask “why don’t you love me” and I’d tell her “because you let my brother constantly beat me up”, “because you laughed when my brother knocked me unconscious and told me I was being dramatic”, “because you forced me to bring my brother up because you didn’t want to be a responsible parent”, and she’d constantly brush all this off. I eventually got fed up of her and went no contact, and the only time she ever tried to contact me was to send abuse, until threatened with police action for harassment, where I had a friend in police Scotland helping me with restraining orders should they be needed. She is terrified of being held actually responsible and the cops knew how terrible she was (but social work wouldn’t do anything and their hands were tied) so they’d send the community beat officer every week to pop by for a cup of tea and check in, strangely my mother would always mysteriously vanish because she didn’t want asked any questions such as “why do you constantly supply your 14 year old son with alcohol”, “have you considered your daughter has PTSD”, “did you know your son stole money from the elderly”, “are you aware it’s illegal to be supplying teenagers alcohol”, “are you aware it’s illegal to be buying teenagers cigarettes” (yes, she’d buy kids aged 13-16 alcohol and smokes). They were aware she played favourites and chose my brother as the golden child and me as the scapegoat so they kept an eye on me, so they tried to keep an eye on me when possible. She’d act all nicey with the cops, like she was a struggling single mother with an “ungrateful” daughter, whereas they knew I was being abused by my mother and brother, acting out because of the sheer amount of abuse, struggling mentally and had undiagnosed PTSD (thankfully diagnosed as an adult), and she was very jealous of the father-like relationship I had with one cop, who I still speak to today, as I’d hug him when I saw him “she never gives me hugs WTF”, as soon as he left I’d get more psychological abuse “why don’t you give me hugs, why don’t you love me, you just want me to kill myself don’t you? You’re the reason I want to kill myself”. Parents like that always whine and cry after we leave and cut them from our lives, she always posts on my birthday and sends friends to contact me, and every single year I have to tell them she abused me, I’ve cut her out my life for a reason, and I don’t care about her attention seeking FB posts on my birthday because she ALWAYS words it like “happy birthday to my ungrateful, spiteful daughter who refuses to talk to me” so she can get attention, so every year I send a copy paste with public FB posts detailing the abuse over the years, most never respond, some tell me “but she’s your mother, you need to forgive her” (no thanks), and some tell me to get over myself. She constantly whinges online and crying for attention, yet still can’t face that she is the reason I cut all contact. She’s in her 50’s, she won’t ever accept that she was responsible and this is on her.

TSA STORY: My dad and little brother we’re going on a hike in the Rocky’s with our Boy Scout troop a couple years ago. One of the items they packed were a couple 1L water bottles. When they reached base camp, they filled them up and used them for the week long hike. Afterwards, arriving at the airport, one bottle still had some water in it. When they reached TSA, when they tried to confiscate it, my dad chugged the water in an attempt to save it. It didn’t work and we loss the bottle. He probably would’ve argued with them if he wasn’t in a strange airport and not relying on his friend who was walking away oblivious of the situation for directions. We considered it our trip sacrifice to the TSA gods.
@superdave8248
@superdave8248 2 года назад
This wasn't a TSA story. This happened in Varadero which is in Cuba. The only thing I was thinking is that the OP is being an entitled brat and all for a silly water bottle that was likely purchased from Amazon. The OP was making a scene, holding up a very long line through customs in a third world country all because he/she wanted to keep a glass water bottle that was declared to be over the volume limit. OP just needed to stop. That water bottle likely cost more than what that customs official made in a week. And if you argue with custom officials enough, you might find your stay in Cuba to be a bit longer and a bit less pleasant than what you had originally intended. The only thing you need in your luggage bag is clothing.

@@superdave8248 Dave, I'm sure that your comment was incredibly helpful for OP. @@H-to-O Corrupt or not, arguing with an authoritative figure in a third world country is never something you should do. She was lucky it played out the way it did. Other alternatives? Get pulled out of line for interfering with a public official in their duties. Get interviewed by agents. Get strip searched by agents. All of the above. Regardless you still end up with the same thing missing out on your flight and possibly paying additional fees as your missed flight was a direct result of your actions of not following legally given instructions. Not to mention you have an army of angry passengers behind you who also need to get through security and you are holding them up. And from their point of view? This is all because of a glass jar. At the end of the day it still played out the same way. The bottle didn't leave with the OP on the flight. That bottle stayed in Cuba. And that look the custom official gave the OP ... it was interpreted as a look of disbelief because the OP thought the agent wanted the bottle. I'd argue that if the agent wanted the bottle he would not have asked the OP if they wanted the top off the bottle. I'd argue that look was nothing more than a custom official wondering why on earth a person would want a bottle top he/she couldn't use. And it had nothing to do with whether the agent actually wanted the bottle. I mean seriously think about it. Would you want a used glass bottle form a complete stranger?

When traveling, since you aren't allowed to take it and they cannot hold items, they have them destroyed. For example, fruits and veggies, nuts, ect that are considered "illegal" or "not allowed through" all go into a grinder at the end of the night/start of the day. Not sure what they call the machines to crush the plastic/makeup, ect, but yes. Your items are either destroyed or given to police to search and after that, you're just shit outta luck my friend. (Have a cousin who works for American Airlines and SouthWest so she's told me a few of their methods for doing a lot of different things. Knives, sharp objects, and even alcohol go directly to the police for "evidence" in case something happens on your flight after passing through)

It is quite simple. The airport security gives people a choice. Eater you freely surrender prohibited items, or you can't not go true the security check and you will miss your flight, the choice is yours. Must have been a commercial flight chartered by the Air Force. My experience flying on US military aircraft is that custom agents aren't even remotely allowed to get close to them. usually the pilots will use "US government sovereign property" or "you lack the proper security clearance to board" to get custom agents to turn right around and go about their business. But most of the time the military aircraft are landing on military bases. So there is no custom checks to begin with. The one exception I remember is Diego Garcia. A military base on an island in the Indian Ocean. It is owned by the Brits, managed by the US military, and kept functional by a Philippino work force. But customs is strictly British personnel. They check anybody and everybody coming through the island. I once witnessed them check bags for a group of civilian workers heading back to PI for vacation and the pile of contraband they confiscated from them would have over flowed a dumpster.

It’s more about what she did to earn that income than it does the income itself. Writing as an income is very hard to pull off because you constantly have to be thinking about the story you’re writing, and believe me, it takes a toll on your brain rather quickly. You also need some way to have proof of your work because with that kind of money, someone’s going to try to steal it. At least with a copyright you can sue the thief, but if it’s not published, they can just claim OP’s work for themselves and even sue them out of the money already made. I do agree with the other commenter that this could be something that took place outside the US, but even stateside where you live varies. Places like New York City and San Francisco are so expensive that you could have a salary of $200k a year and STILL just be scraping by. Hawaii’s bad too, being the most expensive state in the country. In those places, 10k a month is not enough to allow financial independence, though in NYC you can at least just work there while living elsewhere for cheaper prices because of how interconnected their transportation system is. Writing can be a great source of income if you are really good, but it should NEVER be looked at as a stable source of income because nothing about it is stable.

When I was a kid, I LOVED taking a big suitcase full of books on trips. As I got older, baggage fees skyrocketed and I started having to take my books in my carryon. I also loved arcade games. When I was 12, we went on vacation to a beach resort with kids arcade room and I packed my school backpack as full as possible with about 20 library books. I had just enough space in the front pocket for a big ziplock bag of coins and my little Vera Bradley purse. TSA got mad because they couldn’t see past all the coins and thought I was hiding something, so they painstakingly removed EVERY SINGLE ITEM from my bookbag. After clearing me it became apparent that they didn’t know how to make everything fit again. It took SO long for them to frisk me, check my belongings, empty my bag, clear me, repack my bag, and quiz me about travel plans that my family MISSED OUR FLIGHT. Worse still, it later turned out that they kept one of my library books and I had to pay fines to replace it.

When I heard fire academy I assumed it was where one goes to learn to be a firefighter. All I can say is that one instructor who said no exceptions they're just on a power trip. And to me being on a power trip without a good reason is just uncalled for. There might be a reason for a power trip but it shouldn't be simply because you want to exercise power. Concerning the story about gaslighting the girl, if she's an adult she can drink what she want when she wants but to be fair her parents don't have to allow it in their house. You do have to follow the rules of that place where you live. You have your own place then you can set the rules and if someone break them you can insist that while they are in your home they cease and desist with that behavior. And if they refuse you can kick them the hell out. By the same token if you choose to ignore the rules of the house where you are living they have the right to kick you the hell out. But the fact that it was OP's parents, that's not good, that's not at all good. No one should be gaslighting their children, that itself is a power trip. But she did turn the tables on them with her writing income and that warmed the cockles of my heart.

About the first story The rule is about the SIZE OF THE CONTAINER (check tsa site) even though these days MANY countries and airports do allow the bottles, there is a reason why there is the size (of the bottle) limit. To make a long story short, a terrorist group planned a few hijacks but did not succeed, the few of them were supposed to each bring inoffensive liquids but, when mixed together it would become a bomb, but to mix it they had to take a bigger bottle, if you do not have where to mix discretely it's that much more difficult!!! A security guard at the airport threw all of the contents of my small backpack out in search of my yarn scissors... The yarn scissors are very tiny (think about the size of nail scissors). In the process, damaged my brand new copy of The last wish which was in the backpack. The small backpack was in a bigger bag which was mostly empty, aside from the backpack and a couple of random items. He proceeded to carelessly stuff the contents of the backpack back in it, despite me asking several times if he could just leave them be for me to pack it myself so the book doesn't get damaged. But nope, he had to stuff it all back, damaging the cover on the brand new book in the process. The cover has creases and a bit of the cover is torn now. I know this damage would be made by use after a while, but I like to put a clear book cover (the foil stuff that sticks to the book) on my softcover books to prevent this kind of damage or at least make it last longer before that happens. I was going to do that when I got home. I actually bought the book on my trip since they're unavailable in my home country (I guess they just never got popular enough to have a demand big enough for book stores to stock it). I'm still very salty about that. oh, and edit to say: right after the bag got confiscated for the check and I was told there's a ponty object in my backpack, I remembered I had my yarn scissors there and I told the guard exactly where they are. He still proceeded to throw everything out of my backpack, even though they were in a small pocket that he could easily access without taking anything out. Not sure if that's a procedure they have to do or something, or maybe he was just a butthole. He did the same thing to the woman next to me who forgot she had a small bottle (less than 100ml) of hand sanitizer in her bag. She straight up told him what it is and where it is, but she had all of the contents of her bag thrown out, too. There was a Polish Karen next to us who skipped the entire line and demanded to be let through even though she failed to clear the security check, so maybe that's why he was such a butthole to us. But then again, if he was in a bad mood, he should take it out on the Karen that put him in that mood, not the rest of the passengers. We almost missed our flight, too.

I had bought a tax-free bottle of water after check-up because I get easily thirsty in the dry airplane air, and it was half-empty at the time we landed. Person checking our luggage picked up the bottle from my backpack, and threw it in the thrash without even asking if it was mine or anything. Just threw it in with all the other nasty "confiscated" stuff like smashed fruits, half-eaten doughnut and whole bunch of used tissues. I just angrily proceeded to next worker on the airport, and asked what was their ruling on liquids that were bought on-flight, and pointed out their co-worker. I never got the bottle back, but I did hear angry russian shouting a few minutes later.

I’m just wondering how it’s not obvious what the fire academy is. It’s like the police academy but for… firefighters.

Fire academy is for firefighter training :) it’s super strenuous and demanding but ultimately it’s pretty cool
