An immobilizer is just a security feature that prevents the vehicle from starting without using the correct key/card, depending on what vehicle we're talking about. It's a useful feature for the most part. "For the most part" being if they go faulty or are faulty, they cause more problems than they solve lol

Also in some cherokee, if the computer registers overheat(even when is a computer error) it shuts down the car to prevent damage

i dont get the most part. its very good feature, being mandatory in most countries after X year. its a small chip that the car reads from the key and allows fuel to be injected. (this may vary slightly with different cars, on some it might be spark) its very very rare for an immobiliser to go bad and tbh its dumb to say they should be got rid of. without one, you could just use a sheet of metal to start anyones car and just go

Managers are totally out of touch with reality. I once had a supervisor tell me, after my truck wouldn't start, that car trouble is not an excuse for an absence. I should have called a cab. I live and worked in rural Ohio, she came from Detroit. I told her there is no cab service here. Duh! (pre-Uber)

My old car sucked, and it didn't like to start. I often walked the 7 miles to work. The closest bus stop was 4 miles away (buses didn't/don't serve residential areas in Las Vegas much, if at all - or they didn't at the time). I asked for a later shift instead of 6 a.m. Finally got a new car in 2011, but I don't live there anymore anyway!

I worked a job in my early 20's where I lived about 2 and a half miles away from my employer, it was heavy snow and local businesses were closed. I phoned my employer and said I couldn't make it and was told to WALK, yet even 4x4 cars couldn't get through the snow (well maybe they could with effort but no one attempted) he told me how he made it in so I could be he lived less than a mile away on flat roads. He was same boss that would give me shifts that meant I had to walk home as the last bus back left 3 minutes after the shift ended at 11pm and I had to walk home then start another shift at 8am again walking to the company and he didn't see the problem, he drove.

Being a former dishwasher for a few years in my teens, that story triggers some old animal instincts. I was militant about timing and ran the room with an iron fist. I scolded newbies for errors or lateness. Without dishes, the place falls apart. I was the sarlacc pit for dishes. God forbid you forgot a cart, or left an entire hospital floor un-bussed. The dish room was high octane, hot, and overworked. I miss parts of it and wish I could help the guy in the story.

As a former server the story made me cringe cause you should never piss off the dishwasher/busser if you ever want to make anything. I had dishwashers like yourself and I always found it was just easier to put in the extra second to do my part right than not get dishes cause the dishwasher fucking hates my guts.

I pulled double-duty at a nursing home as a server/dishwasher. They would have two of us there every shift when we needed three if they wanted it done right and on-time. If you don't want us staying longer, schedule another person! Otherwise, deal with the extra 30 minutes that I spend sanitizing.

One of my summer jobs had me being a waiter, busser, and dish washer all at one time. But also it was a small local restaurant. I have to say as a whole the owners are some of my favorite people because they also would try to help and were there working just as hard as their employees where if they saw a employee busy doing one thing they would take over doing one of their tasks just to keep the restaurant going smoothly. The weirdest part was slow times because my main boss was also a preacher so if it was slow and no customers he would invite those of us on the clock to a mini bible reading for the day. Honestly I did not mind it because he wanted to treat it as more of a life lesson moment.

I used to work in a scullery on a ship, and, my god, this story triggered so many memories. As night shift, the day shift really, really hated us. We couldn’t leave unless all of the dishes were done, the galley/scullery/kitchen was spotless, and all of our stuff like condiments were put away. Keep in mind, our shift was supposed to end right after breakfast, so we’d end up staying a couple hours long after a 12 hour shift. Meanwhile, we’d come in and find the galley a complete mess with dishes stacked to the ceiling. They wouldn’t even wipe off their tables sometimes. I miss that job sometimes because we had great rapport, but I’d never go back to it.

Being a former busboy in a football stadium/conference centre, we regulars generally knew to scrape properly and bring plates back asap. Agency staff (there one day when we were low on staff) had to be babysat bc we didn't want to have to beg on our knees to the KP/dishwashers for the next week. I also relate to the guy in the vid bc I used public transport and had to be out at 11pm or else get a taxi ride worth 4~5 hours of work. Once I filed the expenses claim for the taxi ride once or twice, they almost never got me to stay late (policy was if shift ended after midnight, taxi fare would be covered by the company. They also introduced a price cap after I filed a couple times)

"Don't have the resources to actually sue for 300 dollars?" My guy, I used to deliver newspapers when I was 18. It cost me 35 bucks to file a small claim in my state. Since I'm the one that doesn't get paid if the customer doesn't pay, I've taken customers to small claims TWICE who owed me for more than 3 months (about 35 bucks). And guess what, both times they had to pay me not only the about 35 bucks for 3 months worth of newspaper delivery, but also my 35 dollar filing fee. If someone dares me to sue them, you picked the wrong one honey. In my state, you can pay a constable another 30 bucks to have them serve it or have a non-interested 3rd party, I had a friend who was a corrections officer who was more than happy to annoy deadbeats on my behalf.

I worked in a newly opened pizza place as a dishwasher. The waiting staff was great, so were the cooks, and they all tried to give me as little leftovers on the plate as possible. The manager, on the other hand, whenever she decided to be the waitress for her friends, always left the tableware, filled with leftovers on a little ledge, about maybe 3 inches wide, and left without saying a word. The knives used to cut the pizza were extra sharp, and I tried to tell her on multiple occasions that doing this was dangerous, and i did try to pick it up as soon as she left to avoid accidents, that is, until, I was elbows deep in plates and she dropped her shit as usual. Another waitress came over. She did not see the tableware on the ledge as she was hurrying to drop hers off. She lowered herself to scrape the food off the plates, and the entire set of knives, forks, plates, and desert cups that my manager shattered onto the floor. She cut her hand in the process, and I got an earful about how I was unable to do my job properly by the same manager who dropped the plates. Most of my colleagues had seen me telling her to stop that, and explaining why, so when she tried to deny it they all ganged up on her and told her that it was grounds for a lawsuit, since she isn't trained as a waitress, she doesn't respect hygiene rules, and she tried to pin it on the only person who cared about safety during service times. I quit shortly after. 2monts later, they are struggling with customers

I have my own Malicious Compliance story: This happened back in 11th grade. My class had a home classroom where our books and such were stored in our own drawers. I had just had a physics class that ended 5 minutes early, so I went to my home classroom to drop off my books so I could go on break. I arrive to the classroom 2 minutes before the class being held in there is finished, so I quietly walk in and leave my books. The teacher told me that I have to wait until the class is over before I walk in. She even told my mentor to talk to me about it. I was kinda pissed, because I did not disturb anyone and I didn't think 2 minutes was a big deal (I was also a bit hot headed as a 16 year old). So I did what she said. Everytime I had a class in a different classroom that ended early, I waited outside my classroom until it was exactly time for the class to end. Then I walked in and left my stuff. This teacher had a habit of going overtime with classes, so everytime I walked in she wasn't finished yet but the students looked at the time and walked out. She gave me the stink eye the rest of the year but didn't say anything again. So instead of me just walking in and not disturbing the students, I now walked in on time and let the students know the class was over before the teacher was done.

So if there's a banquet going on, more than likely the hotel is fully booked. Banquets are a huge source of revenue for these hotels because they book rooms on top of providing the event in the ballroom. Providing rooms for the employees is a great idea but it's not always an option. I've been on multiple shifts where I had to get a room at the hotel where I worked because the next day would be a full shift and it was a better option just to stay the night before the big event. Just you can't usually get a room after an event. Source: I was a Banquet Supervisor.

@@danielhostetler9493 You have to have a driver for the guest services vehicle or shuttle. Usually the shuttle shuts down fairly early during the night because the employees they use are either maintenance personal or some form of a bellhop. As far as arranging for a comp room at another property: how far away is that property and how will they get there? Most hotel companies don't have multiple hotel that are across the street from one another. Their properties are usually spread out over a city, so again how will he get to that other property? I wasn't assuming anything, if you have a large banquet you have a large amount of bookings, the two tend to go hand in hand. Final thing: When we would have large banquets our dishwasher would leave between midnight and 2am. We usually had a little bit left in the ballroom that would end up in the dish pit. He was finished before we were usually, and left. If we made his job harder and he had to stay later, then he would leave around 3 or 4 am. That's him having to walk home because no buses run at the time, and we were usually already out by 2am. The only other person in the hotel is a night clerk or the night auditor. They literally can not leave the hotel for any reason as they are the only employee left on the property.

In this context, an immobilizer is a part usually added by dealerships between the ignition (where you turn the key) and the starter (what starts the motor). In daily use it lets signal pass from the ignition to the starter, however if a person making payments misses payments and doesn’t make arrangements to pay, the dealership can send a signal to the immobilizer and it will stop letting the ignition signal to the starter, preventing the car from starting. It’s a way to stop a car from being hidden until the dealership can repossess, or force the customer to pay for the car.

Our upstairs patio would not bring down their dishes until the end of the night, when I was almost done. Luckily they got better with it but it always got under my skin when it happens.

Mother worked in a bar on Saturday night when I was a kid, was treated as lazy and stupid by the actual lazy bar workers who spent most of their shift standing around talking with customers, getting tips and free drinks (none of which they were willing to share) then calling her slow/lazy etc when she couldn't keep up even though at start of her shift she might have a backlog of dishes that took 2 or more hours to clear, on a 4 hour shift then complain to her they wanted to go home at end of their shift but didn't want to help her, and yes they didn't scrape the dishes either then the next day the bosses would complain how she wasn't good at her job and why did they hire her, well I suppose the wage that was so low was a start that only people desperate to work would take it, and people who were desperate had to put up with rude and abusive bosses. She quit after about 2 months and like 25 years later the same owners in the years since hire local youth and pay them even less and those same kids complain about the hard work, (the bar owners opened a local store which is overpriced and the staff are basically all teens) They just never changed, the wage they give as its teens is about 1/3 or 1/4 the minimum wage for adults and they make 1 person do the work of 2/3 people.

The dishwasher story reminded me of why I quit my first job. I was hired as a dishwasher for a big fast food company. I was still in college so I was only available to work the weekends. The store was open 24/7 so I assumed that they had another dishwasher for the days I couldn't work. Turns out, they didn't. Whenever I was not working, they just made kitchen staff or an unlucky server/manager do the dishes. On days I was coming in for my shifts, they left the BOH as disaster zone. They never bothered to get it organized for me, because the entire staff treated me like a second class citizen. Several times, I reminded them I had to leave when my shift was over, because of how long it takes me to get home, and when I was ready to clean up my station at the end of my shift, someone else would have to take care of the dishes. The manager would always agree, not do it, yell at me after I was done cleaning that the dishes were pilling up, and make me stay late. I kept asking my managers to be cross trained as either a server, or to work with in the kitchen, but they always refused. This was my first job so I didn't know that what I was going through (the bullying, phsyical and emotional abuse) was not normal. After 2 years, I gave notice and got a better job.

I was a former dishwasher for my university, and I can safely say that it was *mostly* without drama. We had to deal with about 150 youth academy cadets all at once before breakfast & dinner. I was with this one female who I joked with and she up and left me to do all of the youth academy *and* the university students by myself because she got triggered on a fat joke. Of course, it was a female manager on shift (which we never had any male managers) and wrote me up. Although clearly, I was fatter than her and that us fat people need to stick together wasn't a joke. I quit shortly after getting written up.

That last story reminded me of my hellhole 7 months of working for a local Petco. Our head manager and assistant manager were huge dbags. Head manager, especially, was always micromanaging. Many times, he'd peak his head around corners to watch us to see if we'd mess up somehow. He'd always find something to criticize, even if we didn't do anything wrong. We were also pressured to do add-ons, pressure people into "taking advantage of other services", donate to a charity, etc. I absolutely despise this kind of work. I know for a damn fact all customers wanna do is buy their crap and leave. They don't wanna get bombarded by pressure questions. And just like OP, we can't just "be at our register doing nothing". We HAD to be doing SOMETHING productive the moment a customer left the store. I can't tell you how many times that ahole head manager pulled me into his office to ask why I was dusting (something we're told to do if there's nothing else to do up front) for so long. In my head I'm wondering why the ever loving hell he cares so friggin much about me dusting. A lot of other crap went on there, but you get the idea about why I only withstood that place for 7 months. I absolutely hate retail and grocery. I've endured so much abuse from management in those two job titles than any other I've had these past 22 years. Never again.

Hey Dab, a car immobilizer is a redundant security feature on a car that does not allow hotwiring. In the first story, it sounds like the "immobilizer" is so that the dealership can shut down the car in case of non-payment. They're wired into the electrical system, and can wreak havoc on the car. They can still malfunction after you outright own your car, and they're a real pain in the ass. They should be illegal.
@neilprice513
@neilprice513 2 года назад
Immobilisers are just security devices that only allow an assigned key or fob to work with a specific vehicle. This stops thieves with reprogrammable skeleton keys to bypass the assigned key/fob and steal the vehicle. If the key/fob fails you have to get the immobiliser basically reprogrammed, at the dealership, for it to be able to allow a new key/fob to be used.
@oD4rkxW0lfo
@oD4rkxW0lfo 2 года назад
2 things. 1. There is a heater in your refrigerator. 2. The immobiliser in your vehicle is tied to a chip in your key. It's designed to stop hot wiring, or picking the ignition. Most modern vehicles have them. Makes getting new keys expensive, more so if you lose all keys.

I have worked in a teahouse that while there served 20000 people in a single day (mostly just tea and scones but full lunches were served.) We only had 1 dishwasher (14 staff total). You can run operations like that. It is just that everything needs to be slick. The washers job is just 100% rinse and, put through conveyer belt dishwasher. They were handed empty plates and everything that came out of the dishwasher was someone else's problem. If the dishwasher doesn't have dishes waiting to be washed then something has gone horribly wrong and anyone who isn't a chef or taking money is expected to sort whatever the issue is ASAP

As some one who's worked the pit in his youth, most restaurants only have one dishwasher (machine) and a small area for the pit to go with it. you stack a rack with dishes, run it, a couple minutes later it comes finishes, you pull it out, push in the next one, put the cleans in a stack or in their drying containers and load the next rack. It tends to move super quick, so if the dishwasher says "No, I can't clean all of this in 15 minutes" there's a reason. The reason is probably that nothing was scraped or sorted, and to top it off, way more than 15 mins worth of dishes. It's probably why the next shift just quit too. I wouldn't have accepted any of that in my pit.... There are always other dishes to do, and you can easily make someone wait if they piss you off. Sure it's usually for no more than a couple loads, but that couple of loads can feel like hours to them if they're in a rush.

TWO. How many put the dishes and such out? ONE. How many folded those stupid napkins? TWO. How many servers? Depended on which hall was used. How many dishwashers? ONE! Thankfully, we were NEVER dishwashers. Not for the boss' lack of trying but me telling her I'll quit right here right now! NO ONE wanted to work there. 1 dishwasher to 400 people is possible, but you'll have a backlog of 3-6 hours after people start leaving. Some places they prefer that. In this case OP had already said he couldn't stay late, so that was a no-go. Also, the busboys can't be lazy. The dishwasher washes dishes and puts it aside.. if there's time he polishes. 12-15 hour shifts were common back when I was a dishwasher. You'd work Mon-Thu. Then someone else took over Fri-Sun. Sometimes you'd have a few extra days off and then rotate.

For the first story, some used car dealerships put the mobilizers on the cars so that if you stop making payments, they can just shut off your car until you pay up. Yeah, it’s kind of sleazy, but that’s how some of them work. There was actually a case recently where an immobilizer malfunction two years after a car was paid off and it completely shut down the car in the middle of nowhere. As for your questions, the fan belt, also known as the accessory belt, is a belt that is driven by a pulley that is connected to the crankshaft, and runs through other police that drives the cars accessories, such as The alternator which generates power, the air conditioning pump, and the fan. The transmission goes between the driveshaft and the engine, and can take a relatively constant input and vary the output. It allows engines to have a narrow band of efficient operation but still be able to operate anywhere from very slow to very high speeds. Anytime you notice the car is RPMs drop on the tachometer, that’s the transmission changing gears to run more efficiently at that higher speed

My question would have to be "What were they doing that was so important that the Host couldn't spare one or two members of his team to ensure that the dirty items weren't backing up in the banquet hall??? If you work in an office at home, you might get away with leaving it looking untidy - but, would you really take that back to the corporate world again??? It's also worth considering that the banquet hall would be a customer facing location... so, if you had hired out that venue for an office function, how would you feel about your employees or prospective future customers having to spend 3 hours potentially looking at trollies of eaten food??? It's not just the establishment that would look bad...
