Okay, I have a mental disorder and it causes me to have pretty erratic shifts in moods and can sometimes make it so that I can't verbally communicate my needs. Usually, it passes in like... three minutes or so, but never have I *once* blamed my partner or made it their problem.
@@Jestrath it's not, actually! It's a dissociative disorder. Dissociative disorders and trauma disorders go hand-in-hand so I typically just end up experiencing overwhelming amount of anxiety all at once and then shut down.
I propably have the same thing. While the episode lasts, do not get into arguments. Its literally the worst thing that can happen to you during that state. Just imagine all the symptoms all at once, and like times five. You will start screaming at people, while hiperventilating like a dying hyena. Its pretty managable while everybody around is calm, but not when people argue with you. Do not ever think that mental problems are entirely predictable. Unless we are talking about different things, in which case I may sound dramatic. Stay safe

Not everyone in therapy has a mental illness. Some people use it to navigate their natural emotions in a more healthy manner. Doesn't change the fact that you shouldn't reject someone on the basis that they are working on their mental health and treating illness.
Hell, I'm more concerned about everything else. Just the first few things would mean he has next to no time for her at all. Hits the gym at least 3-4 hours a day and has a job/career that nets an average of half a million dollars a year? Ignoring the PhD and quantum physics part, he's essentially a celebrity athlete. The meals he makes (if he even finds time for it) would likely align with his diet and regimen.

So I have borderline personality disorder (BPD) due to some bad trauma in my life and I do agree that there are those who push away/ignore/argue just for the sake of it but those who suffer from BPD sadly have it as a reflex to trauma. Is it still our responsibility? Absolutely! I go to therapy to work through it and apologize when my episode ends and work harder to prevent it again. Is it hard to date someone with BPD and should the person not feel guilty for leaving that partner? Absolutely! Everyone is different and we have our own life to live according to how we would like to, to find happiness. My point is, sometimes those red flags aren't always a person who is just down right awful and manipulative/abusive and sometimes it comes from someone's traumatic past unfortunately. For those who are willing to work through things with a partner with BPD, studies have shown that it gets a lot easier the more time you are with a partner as BPD individuals seek stability and reassurance since their trauma comes from being neglected, left behind, given up on, and being alone. Ctpsd with bpd traits here. It's depressing how many pysch professionals actually believe people with bpd are intentionally "manipulative" and "mean". It is all a product of trauma, emotional dysregulation, ect. Sometimes when the sense of abandonment kicks in you can do and say shitty things you don't mean. Part of me says "you don't need them anyway, everyone has left you before " the other part of me desperately wants to make them stay. Sometimes I've kinda started to try guilt others pretty hard withou t even totally realizing it. I've done a lot of self improvement over the years and it took a long time for me to become self aware to even start working on myself. Tbh my therapists have kinda sucked unfortunately. I had one therapist who kinda made me regress and made things worse too. My parents didn't seem to believe in mental illness and treatment so I never got help that probably would have benefitted me earlier in life. It's pretty isolating when you feel like no one understands you
My dad has BPD but is the best dad I could ever have. I can get grouchy and a little whiny like we all do but he is still stable emotionally and looks out for us.

As someone who was raised by an abusive mother, I am going to 100% bet that they had an abusive relationship growing up and they use that as a spring board to understand what is "normal." I've spent a decade realizing my own certain behaviours (mild comparatively, yet no less problematic to a healthy relationship overtime) and instinctual responses to difficult/emotionally taxing situations are definitely a product of a very maladjusted individual who was my main source of understanding how to navigate the world. In particular, the "Go away!" but in actuality what you want is to just feel better and need a hug, but you're mad at the person or perhaps redirecting it to someone so you have something to blame, struck a chord with an old behaviour I know I've done an still sometimes get as an instinct when I'm stressed enough. That said, it's not your job to realize that for them or fix them or anything, just offering some perspective and maybe some hope that some people do change. Because it does happen, but it requires realizing that people who were supposed to love you (friends, family, lovers) didn't and often couldn't and many things you learned were the wrong lessons. I hope you're doing better now and have healed through dealing with someone like that. And I hope your ex has been able to become a better person so she's not out there hurting others the same way she hurt you.

I recognize that the following story is going to read like something from "that happened" or "everybody clapped" It was the spring of 2005, and I was a college freshman. My dormitory was co-ed, and one of the residents who we'll call Mary was that oh-so-lovely combination of fat and bitchy. She had been instigating arguments lately over the pettiest things, and I was dumb enough to entertain them. About a dozen of us were sitting in the common area one evening, Mary included. Soon enough, we started arguing again. Two important things to know about me: 1. I was quite socially awkward at the time, and I often flubbed my words. It made me seem rather inept. 2. I was taking astronomy as an elective. Mary and I got into a back and forth with each other, and I stumbled a few times. She said to the others, "I swear he's like a black hole of stupid!" I angrily fired back, "Oh, please. _You're_ the closest thing in this room to being a black hole!" The whole room was stunned. She was confused, and so I explained that stars at least 20 times heavier than the sun become black holes. She started stammering out "You just called me heavier than 20 suns!" while trying not to break down sobbing before failing and ran out of the room. It seems I had done what no one else was wiling to do, because the rest of the room looked at me with relief. I even heard howling laughter from the next room over. I was sitting on the front stairs a few hours later when Mary approached me and sheepishly apologized to me for how she had been treating me lately. I in turn apologized for what I had said to her, and we then hugged it out. She was a genuinely pleasant person to be around from then on.
IMHO the whole point of occasional princess treatment is that both sides know she's not actually a princess, but the pretense is enjoyable for both and she appreciates a guy going the extra mile. Women who think that should be the default, turn what should be a special moment into nothing but sordid parasitism. It's kinda like a girl getting off on being degraded in bed.
