Aside from not being able to publish the one paper and not being able to take part in any other investigations aside from something directly related to their own thesis, they were not published. Sure, the work on the one article was wasted, but that did not mean sacrificing their careers. They can still work on and publish anything related to their thesis.

Lee was the only one who went to see grandma. You have to assume "my grandfather" is being seen in the best light. Even in that instance, if there is no way to make the home habitable it is likely an easement can be granted by the government against the landowners will.

Nah, that was definitely pro revenge. It had some backfire, but it did not go above the revenge scope it needed to hit. Everyone got the karma they deserved and expected and no one innocent got caught up in the blast.

@@aerinnn. No. Biology is the study of life as a whole. It's a HUGE field. Physiology is much more specific. First, it's limited to the animal kingdom. Second, as I said earlier, it's the study of how the body works. It's usually paired with anatomy ("anatomy and physiology").

Perhaps the psychology training program in your country is inadequate? In the US, it's as valid a field as psychiatry. Biological contributions to the psyche are only one part, and typically altered with medications, which fall under the scope of practice of psychiatrists. Cognitive/behavioral and social contributions to the psyche are more the domain of psychologists. Both are distinct and valuable approaches to mental health.

That last story is so satisfying but so sad. When my grandma was sick we (my sisters, aunt, uncle, and mom) spent as MUCH time with her as possible because we loved her. Even knowing there would be nothing as far as a will or inheritance and TBH it would have felt weird if there was. In that whole time other family never visited. Little did my family I know that during that time this wonderful woman spent hours drafting up letters for each of us to say how much she loved and appreciated us as people. I MELTED! And guess who didn't get last words from lovely grandma? They are still sour about that.

Fortunately, the thing with professors stealing student work has lessened slightly in our digital era. It still happens, of course, but a friend of mine ("Stella") managed to successfully defend her engineering paper last year. She simply had too much evidence, with various bits of work on every computer she owns. It wasn't quite the same as Rebecca and her group, as Stella's professor had basically taken her paper (i think on what materials can be used to make special machinery?) altered it slightly, and tried to publish it. Like I said, Stella had the entire thing in about four different places, and she'd done all the investigation and research, including meeting with and speaking to several field experts, so he had a few options: 1.) Claim Stella stole his work slowly over time and altered it, (not really likely given the timing and the experts who SAW Stella) 2.) Claim Stella was his research assistant, thus making himself look like a lazy bum (like Julian) and likely getting him in trouble, Or 3.) Fess up that he was trying to publish student(s) work as his own, and be immediately fired, take retirement, and never publish again. Being a pompous old bastard, he went with Option 1 and wound up getting quietly sacked. The university tried to get the paper thrown out, mostly out of spite that a student would DARE stand up to a PROFESSOR, but it was eventually published after Stella threatened to go to the media: "Publication Board (entirely white, male, and over 40) harasses brilliant young (female and mixed-race) student! Film at 11!" Apparently, a lot of shady professors are so sure they'll get their way no matter what, it often comes down to Mutually - Assured Destruction. The student isn't well known or published, they don't have nearly as much to lose. The professors, like most people who've been doing one thing for the past 20 years, are creatures of habit, and the main natural predator of the Creature of Habit is the Angry, Overcaffienated Nocturnal College Student. It sucks this crap happens at all, but at least it's a bit easier to fight in this decade... Peace, Love, and Waffles to you college peeps taking summer classes!

Honestly? Good on Rebecca and the other students! She just took a huge hit personally to be sure Dr. Trash never EVER did this to another student. That’s amazing. And it really sucks they lost the ability to write, research, and submit overall unless it was for their thesis. Then again, the minute she graduates? I would not be surprised if she publishes some amazing work in her career.

I come from a family that had someone get stupidly rich just about every other generation for the last hundred years or so only to have the inheritance all go into lawyers pockets from everyone contesting the will and/or suing each other after that person died. My father, disgusted by this, taught me to not be materialistic and to enjoy what I have. He basically taught me to not expect _anything_ to be handed to me and to have the attitude, 'if I get something, cool, if I don't, cool'. My dad was the only person on our line that had kids though so something might come our way.

In the 20s and 30s depending on where you were it was legal for you to shoot trespassers destroying your crops. My grandfather frequently used rock salt on kids. One evening a couple was doing donuts in his crops. He fired both barrels forgetting he had been hunting. They ended up in the hospital seriously injured. Sheriff came out looked at it said yup and left.

#2-That's the same scenario that was used in the novel "Tomb". A character named "Repairman Jack" got his start as a kid when some lowlife scumbags did "donuts" in his neighbor's garden. His neighbor, an old man cried so Jack said he could fix it so no one would ever do that again. Jack planted metal poles and embedded the poles in concrete. His neighbor re-planted his garden. Late at night, Jack heard a loud crash and got up. There was a Van that had hit one of the poles and flipped over. As Jack watched the aftermath, the old man came over and paid Jack.

The one about the students is not that well executed. And no: It's not true that universities are free to steal. yes they will often cover their asses if you try to file an internal complaint. Because thats not how you do it: You go to court and ask a judge for a publication injunction. Also you file charges for fraud. But the best course of action: Don't accept unreasonable proposals. Period. The system lives by people accepting that things work this way.

When referring to "a binary" it means that the person had compiled their code in their IDE or separate compiler of choice into a binary executable file, the .exe you referred to. Which would make an executable file that would be rather trivial to deconstruct back into the original code. Therefore requiring the original code to make modifications and a proper audit for the company.

Oof. That last story really hit hard for me, mainly because the circumstances of it are eerily similar to how my family lost a good portion of our inheritance from my late father. Long story short, my asshole neighbor took my dad from chemotherapy for his lung cancer and had him alter his will with his attorney present. The only reason the fucker didn't get all of the inheritance, on top of me and my siblings in the process, was thanks to my mother, who I can best describe as a real-life example of Sarah Conner, as she caught onto him quick and intervened before he could.
