I am so glad you did this video Rabbi Katz. This Rabbi in the video's argument is not entirely intellectually honest. He implied that Rabbi Manis Friedman is advising Jews to abandon 'religion'. That is an absolutely absurd,, and is even a defaming assertion that Rabbi Friedman would ever teach anything to weaken Torah observance. Doesn't he know of Rabbi Friedman's multi decade long life dedication to the exact opposite, to strengthening Torah observance, and that Rabbi Friedman single handedly brought back literally tens of thousands of Jews to Torah? Or does this Rabbi in the video Rabbi Katz is critiquing, simply totally misunderstand Rabbi Friedman's point when he says ' don't be religious'. What Rabbi Friedman means is do not be dogmatic, do not do Torah and mitzvos in a rote manner without feeling connected to Hashem, and do not allow being so-called 'religious' to become all consuming to the point where Jewish practice becomes even more important and higher than Hashem Himself. Always remember before one stands! And always keep in mind that the word 'mitzvah' means connection, that we are in a reciprocal relationship with Hashem, and although He is perfect and All Powerful and can do anything, he still chooses to be affected by our actions, and as Rabbi Friedman says, could Hashem have shown greater love and given us a greater compliment than this?

It's amazing Rabbi Katz that you even respond to these people. It's quite obvious that these guys have pretty big ego, although you would expect some humility from an observant Jew. You can see it from the remarks that he makes (שמעתם את השטות) and the insulting names they call rabbi Friedman, which shows that they aren't being humble about it and they are not coming to debate. They are sure that the truth to the matter is on their side without any doubt (since they are such big scholars) , and that's why it's personal to them, you are changing their religion, so it's quite clear that's they are being religious about it. I had a change to correspond with Rabbi Kachlon and there was no one to talk to on this matter. On the other hand for the rest of the audience it might be important to show that there is a respond and how beautiful it is.

The first time he died, and he was sent back by God himself that actually is no joke what was happening to him, and he was told to relate his experience to people by God. The text in the last two lines of the Chassidic Discourse of the Rebbe emphasizes that you, Moshe, only have the ability through your actions to effect G-d’s name (אדני) that pertains to the revelation of Monarchy in the material, physical plane of existence. The primary emphasis being that our actions (meaning the performance of mitzvot) only relate to the level of names (עצמות) and not to the level of מהות, meaning G-d transcendent of letters and names. That what the Rav is quoting from Shas Yerushalmi as the explanation of Iyov, is in fact the view of Chassidut Chabad like is found the first volume of ספר המאמרים בשעה שהקדימו, chapter one. Like I have written to Manis previously, if you don’t know how to express this properly in English, then it is better to say that you don’t know how to explain this concept than to mislead people into thinking that G-d (במהותו יתברך היינו הקדוש ברוך הוא) needs our actions. That even though we say that הוא ושמו אחד, meaning He (במהותו) and His name (היינו עצמותו) are one, that is only from the perspective that אין עוד מלבדו, there is nothing apart from Him (in truth), not even His names. That from our perspective, our only relationship with G-d is via His names.

I like Rav Friedman and respect him. However, I believe that Hashem needs us...to fulfil His commandments. In other words, He doesn't simply "need us." He needs us to overcome obstacles in life--some that are extremely difficult and inexplicable--which, if ignored, will cause us harm. He gave us detailed instructions on how to do so. It's up to each of us to follow the instructions. If we don't, then we should not only have to suffer the immediate consequences (i.e., the harm we've brought upon ourselves by choice), but also the consequence for not following His instructions. For example: If a child is instructed by a parent not to touch the hot stove because he'll get burned--but, does it anyway--then, he has no one to blame other than himself for his injury. The child should also be punished in some way by the parent for not following instructions, which were given for sole purpose of preventing harm. Hashem is our Father and our King. Like any loving father, He rewards good behavior and punishes bad behavior. Doing so is not for His benefit. He wants us to live a holy and meaningful life...for our sake, not His.

Not enough space here to deal with this issue but it is clear that the style of Rav Manis appeals to a much larger audience and Rabbi Kachlon's style would have next to no appeal in the diaspora.Rav Manis is fighting an uphill battle to save the Jewish community a community that is in some danger of disappearing. Rav Kachlon is not equipped to deal with this community although he probably has another following.
