could they use 540p and the high bandwith mode to achieve a very low compression video link? or one that does even better in penetration, if they can fit multiple full frame resends into the same time span? i'm also very curious about the new product
I just find it funny that now that WS has race mode, WS pulots are claiming that it feels so locked in and yhey are using it for freestyle too and preferring it. But these same people swore HDzero latency is meaningless and that no one can feel it despite it actually being locked in and way faster than ANYTHING on the market. Also hdzero looks better in 540p than WS race mode
@hersheyfpv3501 and WS gets smeared details and bad latency. I'm not claiming that hdzero is perfect or anything. The point i made was its funny how when hdzero is pumping out 13ms locked latency, everyone's saying it's a gimmick, but now, with WS not even locked at 35ms but just a Lil bit more stable, all of a sudden pilots are raving about latency and many are claiming they prefer the lower latency even though the image is shit. What you said about HDzero can be true and worse and ot wouldn't negate the truth in my statement
It's good to see WS trying to improve their system by releasing new FW version with Race mode also a new vtx with better working voltage range and a new camera with better sensor. However I'm not sure that they will be able to provide Race mode properly. It might be okay just for fun race not for a pro race. I think they should keep focus to improve image quality, range and penetration. I only use 1s Mini HD VTX since the 1st time Avatar VRX released and still use FW v.29 on 720p hi-bitrate because nothing interesting me yet to use the new FW version except want to use the new V3 Camera because the nano cam. V1 unable to display 4:3 aspect ratio correctly
I use the VRX, the race mode works on my pro kit, but doesn't work on either my 1s or 1s lite kits, was really hoping it would work on my 1s kits... But I'm so happy they are at least showing they are working on making it better!
Dear Chris Rosser. I am Sanjeewa from Sri Lanka .Currently I am flying analog fpv with fatshark HDO2, I have ordered will wolksnail avatar goggle and vtx , can I advices if I buy AOS EVO 5.5 inch or 5 inch fpv frame , it is shows propellers edges on front camera on fly.
Been using it for freestyle since it came out. Been great. Better than analog quality wise and the more stable latency is noticable. Feels so much more locked in.
I think what this system needs to be insanely versatile is not a flight controller where if you blow up a MOSFET you throw away expensive digital VTX. No, what would be really interesting is hdmi->VTX bridge, so you'll be able to connect ANY camera you want there. And using HDMI switch....)))
Is 720p100 @ 50Mbit lower latency than the race mode? (From your chart) It's kind of interesting. I'd have thought the transmission + decoding more pixels would take longer. If any caddx employees are here, do enable 540p @ 50 mbit mode to see if it will drop the latency even further?
@@KOrnhOliO1 why not? at 9:26 in the video the chart says 540p race mode is 35ms and the 720p100 50mbit mode is around 32ms. So it'd seem like the wider band = supports higher bitrate = quicker transmission per given amount of data.
@@saidinesh5 A few reasons. 50mbps doubles the channels used and gives less channels for other racers to fly on, making it not feasible to race with. You'd be lucky to get 3 people racing together. And, 3ms is not a noticeable or significant difference. 35ms to 32 ms. Not noticable. Racing anywhere in the 30ms+ latency is not realistic when HDZero racers are around 15ms latency ... with true fixed latency. Walksnail even pursuing low latency racing mode is dumb in the first place ... HDZero has around 13% market share, so says the polls, and it sounds about right because people who want to buy HDZero complain they can't even get it! ... and some probably don't even race, so that's means maybe something like 10% race with HDZero and Walksnail wants a piece of that market share? WTF for? Even if Walksnail got their racing mode to stick to around 25ms how many actual racers, with primarily purchasing that system just for racing, are gonna buy Walksnail instead of HDZero when HDZero is around 15ms fixed latency and if their lucky Walksnail is around 25ms+? This is where companies get in trouble! I was in the electronics business for over 35 years. Companies try too hard to be the "Jack or All Trades" instead of focusing on what they do best and doing that even better. Finding their niche and sticking to it. They should do what they do best and hone in on that! Focus, not broaden their stretch of what the system can do "WELL". Also, if you're gonna go after some usage, go after something with huge market share ... Like DJI's 03 image quality that no other system even comes remotely close to! That's been a gigantic hit! 4K/120fps on board recording with built in 20gb of storage, and an SD card slot for even more. Plus, gigantic range with no reduction in image clarity and unbelievable penetration!!! Many more would buy Walksnail if they had anything remotely similar to 03, than if they had a kinda stable latency for racing ... Especially when they're never gonna achieve the low latency of HDZero. And, racing not being that big of a segment of FPV. Their decisions on which way to go seems they're sent down a dead end road on that one, IMO. Even if they achieve remarkable latency and let's say they take away HALF of HDZero's market share for racing ... Whoopie! 🎉 they just took away 5% market share from HDZero! Never gonna happen, but even if they did ... IT'S FIVE PERCENT! 💯✅🥴
tested today in bando, race mode way to go, no dropped frames, good response time, confidence like with analog.. with 720p not so much confidence, latency is not consistent
Does the race mode prevent the ws goggle from transmitting or does the goggle still transmit while in race mode ? Analog and hdzero goggles don't transmit (just the vtx transmits). The dji and walksnail systems have transmitting goggles, which my understanding for racing is challenging (need distance / separation between pilots). If we goggle still transmits, is it on the same selected race band channel as the vtx ?
I like the extra option but there is more to organised racing. We also have the issue of capturing the video for the race director, streaming and replays. HDZero sell the event VRX to capture analogue and HDZero feeds simultaneously. Avatar doesn't have this and even if it did, I wonder how many clubs would want to spend a lot more money on yet another piece of hardware and also probably capture card(s).
Sorry to say but this attempt is just terrible in image quality, if compared to HDZero which has image quality consistent clarity and non of the mushy blurry image. For racing i believe seeing how HDzero has become the new standard.
I have found it fun for running a track but more fun when flying with my analog and hdzero friends without worry of impact on them. I didn't expect to me enjoying it so much that I just stick with it for all my flying :) Thanks for your perspective on this one.
3:45 How do you know this is what it does? You don't work for Walksnail, right? While what you say here is likely true (of lower resolution allowing less transmit time and hence more retransmit time), I don't think it's the full story: I think what's really happening is Walksnail & DJI send lower quality versions of the frame through when the initial full resolution doesn't get through, and race mode simply switches to sending the lower quality version of the frame much earlier, so that it can get the full frame through instead of having to wait for the higher resolution & increase latency.
Yeah, search for the JB clip titled "How Much Latency Matters In FPV? Test Yourself!" He uses the aperture grille latency split test to show how sensitive people can be to latency. iirc when this was first uploaded I tried it for myself and it was very obvious on the default test and got 16/16
I use the nano90 and dji/ws and I feel the difference massively. im pretty novice too. Variable latency is easier for pros to handle because they preturn / are looking past their target anyways.

Why? We've already seen polls and HDZero's usage seems to be around 13% of FPV flyers. So, Walksnail wants a part of that? I will venture to guess that not 100% of that 13% that use HDZero, race. Why would Walksnail care about making a mode for racing when so few FPV pilots actually race?! Plus, why would the racers choose to use Walksnail when the latency of this new "race mode" is about 25 ms and HDZero's latency is somewhere around 15ms? Has Walksnail forgotten their awful looking 1080p mode, that some refuse to use because of all of the distortionss and funkiness on screen? Why is racing so important to them when the amount of people who actually race is so low? 🤷 IMO, this is a dumb use of their resources when some of their other issues have existed since the system was first announced and released to market. 🤔🤦
Yeah , it would be nice if they fixed some of their old issues. My biggest gripe is the stupid onboard memory plug. They need to move to usbc or micro. Im excited for race mode in that more options are way better than less. I can see myself using this to fly my walksnail quads on track days with my friends.
