For some reason, the version of this someone else had uploaded and I had bookmarked on YT was changed to private, so I decided to upload this video myself.
Rachele Gilmore, who was Kathleen Kim's cover for Olympia, makes her Met debut with four hours notice when Ms. Kim falls ill, and proceeds to bring the house down.

Woah it’s even more impressive when you read her wikipedia page: “She had less than four hours notice that she would sing that night, and the curtain was even briefly held past 20:00 to allow her to walk the stage. She interpolated a High A-flat (A♭6) into Olympia's aria, which, at the time, was conjectured to be the highest note to have ever been sung on the stage of the Met.”

What I have to say to all the people who are making less than nice comments about Rachele's performance in this video: Y'all are crazy. I was a supernumary at this performance and Rachele. Was. Brilliant. She only had a few hours notice that she was going on. That loud popping noise you hear at 6:02 is a lightbulb bursting backstage. I shit you not. I saw Kathleen Kim sing this a few times during the same run and can say that the bold abandon with which Ms. Gilmore takes the coloratura is utterly incredible. @@georgechaka4243 You don't know what you are talking about, this is from the singer herself "In this particular aria, the first verse is sung as the composer originally wrote it, and then the second verse is done with embellishments that are usually chosen by the artist. These were “my embellishments” and had been for quite some time, although a few people have adapted them since then"

Agree. I thought the one from Patricia Janeckova was already so excellent, but this is much better.

I thought I've watched the recording quite a few times, but I never saw the long standing O that they had at the end for her. Well deserved! And those reactions from the chorus look pretty authentic!

This is my favorite rendition. Every note is hit perfectly and there is not so much vibrato that it distorts the note. I love her

A superb debût, and her stage performance was very fine, an admirable acting out of the rolé, likely better than the gal she replaced! The kudos are all well-deserved, IMO.

for those who are wondering, 3:56 is an Ab6. repeatedly throughout she hits G6. i for one had no idea about rachele until happening on this recording, researching since i'm considering working on this piece, and i was so pleasantly surprised that i had to say something. this was done marvelously, and especially for a MET debut, on hours notice. regardless, this is a fabulous performance, and i someday wish to perform so wonderfully and through my nerves. what an achievement. she is a force.

Both times as a substitute. A real bummer - she's got the talent for it. I've seen other recordings on youtube of her. Unfortunately they just promote headliners to get the ticket sales.
