Rydog, I installed a Sony XAV- AX100 Apple car play enabled unit in my 07 Trailblazer today. I never installed a stereo in a car before and i would have not attempted it had it not been for the video. I was able to save $150 minimum because I bought stereo and harness from Crutchfield thus getting the minimum price. Installers like Best Buy or local Car Audio stores were charging anywhere from $100 to $300 more for same unit + interface+ harness plus labor. Though Crutchfield provided instructions, it is nothing compared to watching a video.Great job on the video and thanks a lot.
Just spent two days falling in hate with stereo installation. Ended up going old school and simply running new wires almost all the way back to the speakers. discovered a few interesting things about the 05 TB with Bose and OnStar. 1) don't be a cheapa** like me... take the stinking thing back to the dealer and let them do it. 2) make sure you go someplace where the people you buy from have a clue. We got a nice Sony stereo from WallyMart at a good price, but they did not have the right adapter set. (see above) 3) I ended up pulling door panels and the dash, etc., to run new wires and bypass all the old wiring (including two new power leads (keyed and unkeyed)), but I learned a couple of cool things about the wiring. a) You can get by without removing the door panels unless you want or need to replace the speakers. For the rear doors, if you pull the covers off the floor (the plastic trim covers at the door entry) and the one covering the center column between the doors, you can tap into the speaker wires there. For the front door speakers, the wires come in through the wall (follow the rubber conduit) and you can find the speaker wires inside the cabin (check online for wiring colors). b) the dash speakers are wired with the same colors as the diagonally (not Diagon Alley) opposite rear speakers. So, the front left speaker has the same color wiring as the rear right, etc. I have very clearly informed my wife that this is the very LAST stereo i'll ever install in a vehicle. From this point on, it's off to the dealership or Best Buy or some other organization where the legs and backs of the installers there are more than welcome to the suffering and pain I put up with for two Saturdays and a Friday night.
Thank you so much for this video! I just want to clarify something for you and other viewers. Any aftermarket radio install in the 1st Gen Trailblazer (2002-2009) requires a Metra GM1000 interface. This is to reroute the cords supplied not only if you have BOSE, but also OnStar as well. This harness is still placed in these vehicles W/O BOSE and OnStar, or one without the other. This is placed there just in case any customer went to a dealership and decided to have any of these features installed in their vehicle.
I'm not seeing anything custom here.. it's just the interface used to install a new radio in a vehicle originally equipped with Bose system An onstar. Also like the other gentleman said in a previous comment..yellow is your constant power , red is your switched 12 volts (ACC) .
Yellow is constant. Red is switched. Just to put that out there. Also dude. Any aftermarket stereo will not automatically output at 50 watts. They differ from 16-22 RMS and max out at 50 watts.
I'm not sure if you will see this but I really don't know Jack about cars. If I get a aftermarket radio I don't have to get subs and an amp do I? Or do I just need to get the Bose adapter thing?
all depends on what car you have. if you have a trailblazer and you have the bose factory sound you need a adaptor harness like these weather or not you get subs or don't. it's just so the aftermarket radio can work with the factory sound system and not burn it up. this videos super old and i have done a lot more installs and tried new products. PAC-audio makes a way better harness for this. and it's about $100 on amazon. with a aftermarket radio. sub install would be complete seperate from this harness. If you have a base trial blazer with base audio you should be able to install a aftermarket radio and and just the simple $20 gm adapor harness and be fine.
PAC-audio OS-2X ,, is the part # for the harness that i now remcomend for a trailblazer with bose. when installing a aftermarket radio and want to use the factory bose sound system
@@RydogsGarage wow I'm honestly surprised you responded on such an old video. I actually have a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer and it also has the Bose Sound System pre installed.
@@connorstiles1001 i don't get many comments and they come as notification on my phone. been wanting to post more videos on all my new stuf and new experiences but just been so buisy at work it's hard. so yes perfect if your looking to put like a double din touch screen apple car play radio in it. you need the PAC harness forsure. and it will all work correctly when wired up. manuals that come with it will show how to match the wires based on color coding. subs are fully seperate. becuase a set of RCA cables will plug into radio and run to a amp for the subs. and the amp will get its own power from battery and ground from the chassis of the car. still need harness for radio to work with factory system
@@RydogsGarage hey I know exactly what you mean when it comes to work lol. I worked the entire month of.november without a day off lol. But I appreciate the input. It's hard to.find videos for my particular car. Thankfully the 08 is basically the same car. I definitely want to get a touchscreen radio but don't really need apple play as I prefer Android.
@@Capn_Codfish if you guys have any external AMPS like factory amps you'd need to hook those up or rerun the wires from your speakers and cut in to where they were going into the amp under you back seat I believe if your Envoy or trailblazer has a factory sub.
I have this exact harness for a 05 equinox and I have very little sound all the way up and no chimes tried the adjustment on the box and I noticed on the small plug it only has 2 wires and the plug coming from the car has 3 wires this is the plug for the amp and only 1 pin is going into another wire can I just jump the factory amp to the power ground and remote.
I have a Jvc with the same harness and I have a orange wire on the headunit and a orange with a white stripe what should I do I tried connecting them and it did not work and tried without them and still didn't work
Here is a question that I dont believe I have seen yet. I have an '07 Trailblazer and My factory Bose radio sounded Semi good, but didnt go to full volume...as I heard that GM factory radios have a limiter that keeps them from blowing speakers. When you put your aftermarket radio in, did everything sound much better and louder with more quality of sound? like was in a situation where you could only go to like 80% of the volume and anything higher would start to distort? Basically, was the aftermarket radio louder and cleaner sounding? I would hate to spend a bunch of money on an aftermarket deck and it not sound any cleaner and especially louder....
+Mike Davies it seems alot cleaner, but volume level before distortion is about the same, ive noticed it had some weird things going on with it while tuning it in. i have subs, so i send all bass to them, so the stock system gets highs and mids only and it sounded alot better that way
Hi Guys, I have a question. I just installed an aftermarket stereo, I think it has a bose amp (although I'm not 100% sure yet) and I still have the same problem of only one of the front right speakers working. all the rest of the speakers don't work (with factory and now with new aftermarket radio). I thought the new stereo/head unit would have solved it but it didn't. I think the bose amp is borked (if it has a bose amp). can I just remove the bose amp and just jump wire the connections so that it directly outputs to the speakers? do you see any issues with that? it doesn't matter if I sacrifice some speakers in the process. the car is a saab 9-7x 2007 model, which is pretty much a trailblazer/buick rainer. also, is it possible for so many speakers to be faulty? perhaps ground connections or wiring that's causing it? instead of the bose amp. thanks alot for any feedback
Yes sir I have a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu and I'm installing a gmos-lan -034 and I got everything wired but the black wire that's connected to the pins that plug in the axxess box I'm wondering where do it hooks up to
TIA! I am confused because the AXCESS HARNESS has LF+ LF- AND RF+ RF- but nothing for the rear speakers, does the BOSE system take care of the rear? I have connections for rear speakers on a different part of the harness, the part that goes into the factory clip. Instructions for this MOS-04 are confusing as hell, please help
Question, I bought that axxess module, why does it have two wires running separately, which is hot and black wires?? So the axxess wires coming out of module all go to the pigtail. And then 2 extra wires run out of module and don't run into pigtail. So what they for?
How would i make my rear dvd system to work with my aftermarket radio?? My up & down volume works with onstar, but wont work with the radio, any suggestions?? 2004 cadillac escalade
for the dvd do you mean video? there has to be a way to run a video output from the radio and into the DVD system, so they both play the same, vise versa...and getting the aftermarket radio to work with the onstar can be verry funky they all respond differently, I'm not 100% sure
Planning on buying the same kit for my 08 Grand Prix with monsoon. You said that the adjustment knob on it is for both headunit gain and the chimes. Does it do both at once or are they separate some how?
Man thank u! I have this in my lancer and I was complaining it seemed not as loud as my stock system. I wonder if my gain knob isn't turned up!??? I'll check tomorrow thanks thanks thanks!
Just a heads up, those wattage ratings are not rms. They’re max wattage. You’re only putting out probably 12 watts per channel under normal use. No chance of burning anything up.
hi awesome video i have a question. to where did you connect the blue and white cable fron the axxess adapter to(thas the amp cable) cuz my radio the only wire that has left after connecting all the wires is a blue one it doesn't have any blue and white wire for the amp?
I have a 02 trailblazer and putting a aftermarket stereo pioneer avh 200ex and i have the wire harness GMOS-01 and im having a issue with hooking it up the speakers. I have 2 plug ins from the stereo one goes to the black box and the other one goes into the stereo.do i just put the speakers wires together. thanks great video
Quick question for you buddy I'm getting ready to install a system in my 2005 TrailBlazer where did you run your power wire to get it into the cab of the SUV without causing any damage
no not true. you don’t want the 50 plus watt output coming from the aftermarket radio and getting sent to the bose amp. it will fry it. box brings it down to just the signal. as well as having conections for onstar.
hey. raydog. question. I hooked one of these up in my yukon and the sound/audio only plays for about 5 seconds. then goes silent. any clue why? everything continues to work just no sound
where is the aftermarket "red" (ACC12v) connected to on your existing factory harness plug ? My harness and radio say that red is ACC and yellow is constant 12v.
So I just hooked this exact thing up...for.some reason I dont have any sound from front door speakers....dash speakers and rear doors work fine....any reason u can come up with to explain this. Everything works fine with factory setup...maybe amp not powering up.?? All wires seem to be hooked up correctly...when I disconnect the small gray box from factory plug nothing happens. Isn't that the factory amp plug....maybe that is a clue
Quick question my dude I'm just trying to bypass my factory amp in my 2005 gmc envoy..when I unplug the factory radio will the speaker wire be on the big plug or the small plug..thanks
Question I installed a after market radio and for one year it sound great now I am hearing some buzzing sound from my rear back speakers what can it be.
Hey bro i have bose system in mine and wit the steering wheel buttons the only issue i have is that when i bought it the rear speakers didnt work i switched them out and nothin so idk. If its the factory amp or some wires are damaged
Thanks for the video! I'm wanting to do this soon because the cd player in mine does not work. If I don't care about the OnStar system. do I still need to get the interface adapter?
only need the adaptor if you have the Bose premium sound, if you have the normal sound system a normal harness will be fine, have any more questions or video ideas let me know!
I'm wondering the same? I'm not installing amp or subs just a double din Android head unit with gps and just wanna use stock speakers but it is the Bose system and I don't use onstar
James J. McCloud if you have the Bose you need it. It would be putting power into the power supply if you didn’t. That would make everything stop working.
Hello, about wiring the trailblazer, do you by anny chance have an diagram to hook up the interface on the boze system? I have an android 2din head unit to replaced factory head unit. I'm from the Netherlands,....realy foks here don 't understand a thing about this kind off installation. So hope hou can help me out here. I have to bypass the amp. Becouse left side off my boxes aint working, replaced them still the samen, so most likely the amp. Is busted. Hope to get an answer. Best regards, Herben
Any sound difference if I bypass the bose amp ? Wire it directly to the stereo . I bought a Scosche Interface but it says not for premium Bose audio. It's on a 2006 SS silverado btw.
hey man, thanks for the video. I have been searching everywhere for answers. I've got an 05 trailblazer and just replaced the 4 factory speakers with RF and am adding 2 RF in the dash. I bought a head unit and also the interface from axxes. since I only have 4 speaker outputs, I thought about running the 4 front speakers off of a cheap amp and the 2 rear, off the head unit. I am so lost as to how and hook it up this way using the interface. any help would be so appreciated.
hey! you are going to have to wire only the rear speaker wires to the interface and head unit, and then run rcas from the head unit to the amp for the other 4 speakers, there is white grey purple and green wires, for the speakers on the harness, each one is for a seperate corner of the truck, I forgot exactly which color is which corner but it should say on the wire, and you are going to need to figure out and use the rears, for the front speakers and amp you have to run seperate speaker wire from the amp to the 4 speakers, and power and ground for that amp, remote turn on, and fuze the power
So whoever had my 06 trailblazer before me cut the factory clips to the stereo so I bought the Metra interface like you have but I don’t know what wires I need to connect bc the clip is missing... any help would be appreciated!!!!
I installed a new radio in our 04 trailblazer its the North Face Edition and the reception sucks so I bought the antenna amp and the reception is worse any ideas on what im doing wrong ....the radio was bought on WISH.com . and I bought the harness but dose the truck have its own antenna amp that maybe I didn't wire up . thanks
How did you do the illumination wires. I have illumination and dimmer wires. The instructions told me to connect the orange with the orange white unless it was populated on the factory side. This is my first time doing this I don’t know what this means
Greg Keener honestly i never got the illumination to work. it’s not a nesassary unless you want it? populated on factory side means it was hooked up and being used. like had a pin out.
I just used this for my aftermarket unit and now it sounds like my front speakers are louder than my rear speakers ...there’s sounds coming from them but the sound is noticeably lower than my front any suggestions ?
What is the part number for the axxess interface?, i have the trailblazer 2003 with audio bose system and no onstar system, what axxess interface is better for my system Thanks for you answer
how do i know if i need a interface i am putting a pioneer single din into my 08 sierra,i have 4 door speakers and window post 2"speakers not putting in any bells and whistles in just plain stereo radio
Buster brown does your factory radio say bose anywhere? or on the doors. if so you probaly need a PAC interface harness. if it dosent and that’s just the basic sounds system. you just need the basic harness that lets you wire in new radio to stock plugs.
Rydog's Garage my Phone number is 2198698314 and my Facebook is Kyle David Clevenger if you wanna contact me through there. I don’t seem to get notifications for this
I hooked the harness to my cd deck. matched all the speaker colors but my volume will not turn up on my speakers. would you know what is the cause of no volume? your advice will be appreciated.
the gain knob on the harness could be not set correctly, it's the little blue dial that uses a Philips screwdriver to turn it. there is a special start up procedure to set the chime volume then set the gain
So does anything actually have to be done directly to the stock amplifier in order to bypass it, or does this harness make that happen? I have a 2006 Envoy Denali w/ bose and onstar, no DVD.
this adaptor takes the 50watt signal coming from the head unit and reduces it into a signal that the factory amp can use. some choose to not use the adaptor and just remove the factory amp and replace it with a new amp all new wiring and speakers. but this adaptor allows for a new head unit retaining all other factory equipment. hope that helps! :)
and I'm still using this adaptor a year and 4 months later, no issues, and I crank the music all day everyday lol, I have 2 12 subs installed and I swapped the head unit for a touchscreen one, so it has worked for 2 head units also
I'm having problems with the volume. I raise it but it sounds HORRIBLE but if I lower it... you can't hear anything. I'm going crazy trying to figure out wtf I'm doing wrong.
I have a 06 trailblazer and i am trying to install doubl din unit. How did you wire the ignition red wire that gets wired to get the radio to turn on when the key is in the on poaition? Can you send me a good link or anyting that will help me wire the ignition wire for the radio.
Bethel Bekele it should be apart of the adaptor harness, if it is not you have to run the wire in the dash and under the steering wheel. and probe the red wire on the steering collum so that the probe lights when you turn the key. and is off when key is off. you use a tap connector on it to tap the radio wire in
Jeffery Morris this adaptor harness uses the stock bose amp and speakers. and makes it work with the aftermarket radio. you wire the white green silver and purple speaker wires in like any other install. the rcas are for my separate sub amp.
+Jose Hernandez all speakers are factory, this adapter in the harness allows for you to keep the factory speakers and have a aftermarket head unit, because honestly the bose sounds verry good, just wanted an aux port for my phone, and a easy way to install subs
yeah fm transmitters are not good enough for my im big into audio, i actualy just swapped the radio again to a pioneer touch screen, avh-2700bs, used same harness bluetooth and hands free calling is all work flawlessly, if you have any more questions i can help you out! wiring for this stock bose is a pain! but all worth it in the end, no reason to rip out good speakers and buy all new especially if you want to sell the car
I want to use a wish radio with NAV and back up camera any advice I also have factory NAV and rear DVD entrainment factory any advice to get this hook up to still work with factory NAV antenna and rear factory DVD player
what color wires do you have passing the interface? which colours are the navigation system. my new head unit does not have navigation. what is the 12 pin connector for. last question hahaha. what color is the remote turn on for the harness itself because i have an amp and subs going in and cant find the remote turn on. If you get back to me asap that would be really helpful. Thanks
only the black ground, and yellow and orange wire bypass the interface I believe, your only matching to the harness that came with your radio, the 12 pin one is for steering wheel controls, if you don't have them the wires can be pulled out, and the nav wires are all the extra ones that don't match to a color on your radio harness, they can be cut and capped or pulled out also, the remote turn on wire should be labeled by the Harness that came with your aftermarket Radio
+rydog12100 all i have left on the aftermarket harness is blue and its for the power antenna. is that still the same as remote turn on and what would be the color on the metra harness?
+Gavin Blanks yes power antenna turn on would do the same thing as remote wire, and does not need to be hocked up to the interface just straight to your wire to your amp, but the dark blue wire on the harness would go to it
Hey Im installing a pioneer radio in a 2002 Chevy Impala without Onstar, I just can't find any install instructions online. I have all the parts, I just don't know where to start.
+Yalena Talley the harness needs to be custom made, by soldering the wires together, the harness that came with the radio, and the adaptor harness you bought that plugs into the factory connections, should match color to color, solder those together, and use shrink wrap make sure no bare wire is exposed, then continue to take your dash apart and remove factory radio, not sure how it comes apart on your car have not been in one like yours, but the harness you made should plug right in an the radio should mount in same spot!
i install a new radio in my 2002 trailblazer evryting work good i install the radio in the mornig when i star my car in the night time the light from the inside no work an whent open the door no chimes help please
Help! I hooked my aftermarket up. Its the size of yours and I used the same axess wiring kit. My radio comes on but barely has any sound. Do I need a wire to the battery?
+chad hinkle I literally just went through this tonight. Installed my new deck, sound was going to every speaker but it was barely audible.  You don't have a factory amp, I cut the speaker wires before the big black box and spliced them into the speaker wires on the radio harness. Pretty much I just bypassed the black box and everything works perfect. Or you can just go buy a non amplified harness.
+Jesse Taylor this video is for people who do have the factory Bose amp and is what the harness is for, like you said he must not have the amp and just has the normal sound
I bought the gmos-04 for my 03 yukon xl. I bought the Sony MEX-XB100BT that has the extra amp to it. I don't to use the bose amplifier anymore because it's failing. Is there a way I can use the interface but bypass the connection to the amplifier? Can I still use the speaker wire in the door?
diesel2421 if the radio has a amp in it, you should be able to run the wires for the speakers together bypassing the interface, and then find a way to wire and bypass the amp in the back of to truck, i believe the amp is on the passenger side all the way in the rear... but don't quote me on that
Rydog's Garage the amp is up front under the center console. So new speaker wires would have to be ran from the factory amp? but I dont want to use the factory anp anymore...
diesel2421 sorry i read that wrong didn't realize you have a yukon... the amp for the blazer is in the back, no you just have to unplug the factory amp and run wires from the radio to that plug that you took out of the factory amp
after installing my radio with the same harness now I am getting static out the rear doors and dash doors can't get rid of it any tips I have an 08 trailblazer bose onstar
nope you can get a regular harnes that does not have the adaptor, the harness will be a plus that goes to the stock conection that has wires that need to be matched and soldiered to the harness that comes with your new radio
hola hermano nesesito de una gran ayuda ya e conprado varias cosas y nada tengo una GMC envoy 2004 con sonido boss premium y quiero poner radio doble din pero no se si ese si me funcione porfavor ayudame y donde lo puedo conprar
Regena Rodriguez on the pac interface there is 2 plugs one says amplified, and one is non amp. if you have bose you have to be plugged into the factory amplified plug. also check your source input on your radio. it may be turned up
Big D that blue knob on the box only changes the chime volume. You need to go back and look at the color coding of the wires and look up the wiring diagram of this aftermarket box. Make sure the connections are tight and no bare wires are exposed.
Brandie Kinman no becuase they make single din and double din. the trailblazer is a double din size from factory so your able to buy any one just need the proper bracket with the radio
If anybody still visits this thread, I've got the Pioneer AVH270BT HEAD UNIT, with metra GMOS04 FOR bose equipped 2003 trailblazer. With the gain knob set to max, the volume is only coming oiut at about half of what it should be, any ideas? My Metra GMOS04 is the newest model with only one knob
joesaiditstrue return the mettra and buy the PAC adaptor. will be making update video soon. my metra killed my radio. i had a avh-2700bs. and the metra after a year started not delivering correct power, and killed the LCd. i just got a avh-201ex and a PAC adaptor as replacement and its 1,000% better
Kristin Marks that is if you have steering wheel controls, it's so you can connect the other interface that the same company makes for the steering wheel controls, into this adaptor. if that makes sense
