Depending on the day, Pyramid Song is quite possibly my favorite song of all time. There is just such an ethereal and haunting beauty to it that overtakes me everytime I hear it.
This is literally one of my favorites off their entire discography, bc it has more growers than any of the rest of their albums. Each and every single song takes some time to deep into your brain, but man when it hits, ooof. I like how you’re saying you don’t understand why he says “I’m a reasonable man, get off my case”, bc that’s the same thought I had - and now for the past 3 years whenever I get annoyed at someone, that line pops up into my head almost subconsciously.
pakt like sardines is one of my favourite rh songs really. im sort of obsessed with the production on it..particularly the kick. they prolly just boosted some of the highs but since thats usually the opposite of what you tend to hear from an electronic kickdrum i guess it just stuck with me and it still tickles my brain everytime i hear it
honestly this album goes best as a counterpart with Kid A , most people call this a kid a b sides because they created these songs in the same session as the ones on Kid A. i will say they create a whole different vibe and atmosphere with it either way. The themes are very very similar though and thats why in 2021 they released a 20th anniversary ‘Kid A mnesia’. You’ll never be disappointed or dissatisfied with radiohead because the musicianship is always insane even if it doesn’t hold up to ok computer- in rainbows - kid a status
No way you did this one that's sick!! As for the next Radiohead, definitely do hail to the thief. Other recs haven't really changed much! Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it In People LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On
A lot of Thom’s lyrics on this album refer to class struggles/war, and disillusionment with capitalism (You and Whose Army?, Dollars and Cents, Like Spinning Plates)
this album definitely grows on you and i think life in a glasshouse is one of the best album closers ever. you should definitely check out some grunge like in utero by nirvana or jar of flies by alice in chains because they are essentials.
When he says "we are the dollars & cents we're gonna crack your little souls" it's a metaphor for the wealthy class and how much control they have over the "little souls" (us)
was at an ichiko aoba show last night and someone next to me told me this is their fave radiohead album to stir the pot but they were kinda valid for that icl
Your reviews are amazing! I love your reaction style, you deserve way more views. Reccomendation: I HIGHLY reccomend M83's "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming". Very dreamy electronica album. You probably know the song "Midnight City" off of it.
Agree with M83, but I would start with dead cities, and Before the dawn heals us. Feel they are more compact whilst hurry up (although gorgeous) is a bit all over the place.
This is more of a mixed bag of an album but has a few of their strongest songs on there. You should check out Hail to the Thief next for Radiohead, it's the album that comes after this one too. Also are you going to do more Aphex Twin? I think you should do I Care Because You Do and then Come to Daddy. Also recommended Oneohtrix Point Never - R Plus Seven Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation Lil Ugly Mane - Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern
Please give Nirvana a listen if you haven't already! Both Nevermind and In Utero are essential albums for your channel and both are masterpieces. Also love your reaction to this one. Yeah, some songs here are not that great and maybe even unnecessary but the album has a certain magnetism so I love it quite a lot. Probably my favourite of them after their "big 3" (the 3 albums you were familiar with before your reactions)
Great review, thanks for doing this one! This is definitely my favorite Radiohead album, but the vibe is so dark, I have to be in the right mindset to give it a listen. This is definitely the band at their most experimental, and repeated listens reveal a lot more about these songs. Pyramid Song remains my favorite Radiohead song of all time. Would love to see your thoughts on The King of Limbs, which is another favorite of mine, and seems to be gaining some appreciation as the years go on.
Would love if you reacted to Perfect From Now on by Built to Spill, probably my favorite indie rock record I've ever heard. Just jam packed with unforgettable melodies and evolving instrumental jams.
A few recommendations: My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade OR Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (Best pop punk records out there) Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life (One of the greatest albums of all time) Pink Floyd - The Wall (My personal favourite PF album) System Of A Down - Toxicity (To get you into some metal)
Another banger video and album. Underrated as far as Radiohead goes. Cool blend of Kid A and Hail to the thief. Btw, here's a few off the wall recommendations if you ever find yourself interested: The glow pt 2 by The Microphones (there is no pt 1) Replica by Oneohtrix Point Never All of Thom Yorke's solo works Analord by AFX (Aphex Twin), his magnum opus imo, it is around 4 hours long but totally worth the experience
Ok, kind of a werid suggestion, but a few years ago Radiohead released this virtual museum game thing called the Kid A Mnesia exhibition. It would probably take like 2 hours to explore fully and it has like remixed tracks, combined tracks, and visual sequences that are very impressive. I'd reccomend it just in general, but it could also be cool for a video.
This album is great. Pyramid Song is one of their best tracks ever. I got 2 recommendations for you. The Doors self titled debut album (1967) and Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom (1994). Totally different albums but would be very very curious to see your reaction on these two.
@@jameshannagan4256 well, no, a minion is an underling. the OED defines 'crony' as a close friend or companion. But it is often used in a derogatory sense..
btw a reason why the two opening lines to pyramid song might sound familiar is because they were interpolated on "REACH THE SUNSHINE" by lil yachty, so if you've heard that then that's probably why. great video as always! :)
On a separate account, the voice you didn’t like on Pulk/Pull Revolving doors is dropped for the True Love Waits iteration. Pulk/Pull True love waits version that is
Other album recommendations: Mazzy star - among my swan Hope Sandoval and the warm inventions- Bavarian fruit bread (It’s the drummer from my bloody valentine and hope, the singer from mazzy star) Cocteau twins - four calendar cafe Cocteau twins - heaven or Las Vegas Lamp - ランプ幻想 (Lamp Gensō) Nina Simone - Baltimore I love you’re content so much 🫶🫶
Love Amnesiac's Morning Bell so much. I love that they put out two versions. Kid A's in 5/4 and Amnesiac's in 4/4. Kid A's version feels so stilted, off-kilter, and neurotic; while Amnesiac's version is so melancholy, while having that beautiful, uplifting outro with the synths and bass. Fun fact! Hunting Bears is in "Free-Time". No time signature at all, it just comes and goes, meandering in and out. It's a very classical music thing
This album is amazing! it has an exceptional quality that, (in my opinion,) no other Radiohead album possesses. It was definitely influenced by kid a, as it was released right after it, which explains the atmospheric and abstract elements in it. I think you should check out Beach House next (my fav band), for no particular reason except that they're amazing! if you do decide to react to them, id recommend listening to either depression cherry, teen dream or bloom. These albums are their biggest and they really represent what Beach House is in terms of their sound. But yeah, loved this reaction and I always love watching your vids, infact you're my fav music reactor/reviewer here on youtube! keep going at it!
new fan here! Just saw your Ween - Quebec review, I highly recommend the band Sunny Day Real Estate, either the album LP2 or Diary, very reminiscent of deftones, you wont be sorry.
You should do all their albums except the forst one because they are all great in their own way but when you finish their studio albums you should do both the fantastic basement sessions seeing them pull these intricate songs off live flawlessly will make you a fan for life. One of the coolest things about Radiohead is how many great non-album tracks they have they could fill up 2 or 3 albums with great music they did not put on any albums.
Alot of the bands work in the late 90's and early 2000's is directed at Bush and Tony Blair and are very politicly driven. If it was not directly political it was subtle. Thom was quoted saying the song You and whose army as 'About someone who is elected into power by people and who then blatantly betrays them - just like Blair did'. Also when Thom performed like spinning plates in montreal one time he also was quoted before playing saying 'This is dedicated to our glorious leaders, or alteast some of them who saw fit to take us to a war that nobody wanted, kill thousands of... about tens of thousands of innocent people. And they shall go to their grave with it on their conscience. And I hope that's ok with them. Anyway'. I would say if you want to grab more of those political themes in their discography, alot of it is held in Hail to the thief which is wholly directed towards political status in the world in the early 2000s and Frustration and rage with western governments and their involvement in Unjust wars.
I would love to see you react to Tom Waits! He has an incredible and diverse discography that spans decades. Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs and Frank's Wild Years are all good places to start. Bone Machine is another really good one.. These are all strange listens and may be an acquired taste but I'm sure you'll find a lot to enjoy. 🙂
I kinda like Amnesiac, I understand most people finding this their weakest album, but for me, I instantly got in to it. Yes, the album is inconsistent, and I feel like songs like hunting bears and pulk pull are a bit unnecessary, I think the rest of the songs are great, and hold op to Kid A standard. I do think the transitions work better then most people say, but it is noticeable and kinda ruins some of the experience. Its still an 8 for me.
For me it’s funny that amnesiac b-sides like kinetic, worrywort, fog, Trans-Atlantic are better than some amnesiac songs. They could make this album great and unique
Great stuff man! Really enjoying your videos! I recommend “Love Over Gold” by Dire Straits and “One Size Fits All” by Frank Zappa both are great and I’d think you’d think so too, have a good day.
sometimes radiohead adresses feelings and not only relate, but counter it, sometimes cheers you up a bit by acknowledging the issue, and / or simply.. tell you otherwise.. and we need that sometimes.. "optimistic" does that for me.. my best is good enough.. its calming, feel less of a worthless failure ^^
I just "played" loosely-worded "Kid... Exhibition" (a title which yt doesn't like the taste of). It's KidA and Amnesiac albums reimagined in a different universe. It's for free on P S five and 8.5 gigabytes! I'm seeing the visuals from it while the songs are playing.
love this one some people just can't handle the intellectual stimulation of pulk pull u know spinning plates is kind of weak though imo and thom does not in fact fuck with jerry never thought about that hail to the thief is pretty great you might like it king of limbs really has it's moments too, way underrated i think
Please check out Frightened Rabbit sometime. They are largely unseen in the reaction/review section of youtube and criminally underlooked. One of the most beautiful tragedies in music.
You should dive more into Radiohead, the Frontman Thom Yorke's writing is out of this world! also the Lead Guitarist Jonny Greenwood is musical genius, he's a music film composer and he scores many soundtrack films! As a film enthusiast, The fact that I really like about Radiohead is that a lot of Radiohead's songs are used for movies, in fact on almost every album there's bound to be one used for a movie. I'll give you proof Pablo Honey : Creep (Guardian of The Galaxy) The Bends : Fake Plastic Trees (Clueless) OK Computer : Exit Music (Romeo + Juliet, Black Mirror) Let Down (After Life) Climbing Up The Walls (Peaky Blinders) Lucky (Six Feet Under) No Surprises (Corner Office) Kid A : How To Dissappear Completely (Life as A House) Motion Picture Soundtrack (I Origins) Amnesiac : Pyramid Song, Life In A Glasshouse and I Might Be Wrong (Peaky Blinders) In Rainbows : All I Need (City of Bones) Reckoner (The Wilds) The King of Limbs : Codex (Prisoners) A Moon Shaped Pool : Decks Dark (Artemis Fowl)
Fuckin boss. You heard anything by built to spill yet? Perfect From Now On is one of those things I feel like anyone who likes indie rock has to hear at least once.
Bro bro bro bro broooooooo if you react to The King Of Limbs don't do the studio version, do the From The Basement version. it's better in every way and almost everyone would agree with me
