Radiomaster TX16S Emergency mode Fix 

Ive put up with this since the radio came out 3x now done the ribbon cable as you have shown(explained!),i used many ribon cables in the past from phones etc..,i emailed radiomaster they sent me some dodgy file that worked supprisingly but i needed an update.....in the end i bought there li ion 2s battery,filthy price anyway,it fixed my problem..possably it was a combo of cleaning and forking out more after module radio battry n time,then i went n busted my back,lol.hopefully for everyone (im always unlucky) this video is the fix it did work the first time for me, then i had to use there file again .i updated today forgot to charge the battery,now wasting my 4th hour hope it works again after seeing that dreadfull EMERGENCY MODEshuts down...thanx 4 listeninng to my frustration and good on ya mate for sharing!Peace n God bless!

Thank You very much!!! :-) I also have received yesterday from Banggood a new TX16s with the same problem, continue boot in EMERGENCY MODE after first shutdown. I have try to remake the SD card with default data, reflash original firmware...no resolution.... Only with your guide of cleaning contacts of master flat cable I have reach the solution !! :-) :-) SUPER !!!!

Thanks for the solution. You just helped me fixed the tx16s. Not quite sure what was wrong with the ribbon cable, as it looked clean. Anyway, I cleaned with alcohol, and everything worked again :)

Just to add, I have had TX edge on mine for few months, I was changing models and locked up, went into emergency mode. I was about to dismantle and thought I would take out the SD card and re-seat. This did it for me! :)

Awesome! It worked for me, however, the first time I booted back up the screen displayed Emergency Mode. I successfully power cycled it afterward and it continued to work properly. Thanks!

Haven't tried the fix yet - just got my radio 2 days ago - it worked fine at first, then a switch stopped working. I restarted and it was all good. Then about 30 min. after flying in sim I turned it off and it booted right back into emergency mode. I couldn't turn it off... Then I pulled the battery, let it sit for a few min. and started it again. Right into emergency mode. After watching this video I tried turning it on with the momentary switch - it worked... I haven't opened the back yet - but now it's random. Sometimes it powers on fine, sometimes in emergency mode. I have not tried flashing firmware yet... but seams like maybe first step is cables. Fixed my problem also ! this video is gold!!!!

Told myself: if that works... Had several issues: LS was setting Trim T3, Trim T3 did not work, Radio switched off itselfs randomly. Tried several Firmwares like OpenTX, EdgeTX, older Version, newer ones - nothing did work! This realy small workaround did it! Now I am able again to take the radio "for a flight without Failsave" (I am the Master of Failsave now! Have you ever seen your Copter flying at 10ft, waiting for empty LiPo?). Thanks a lot, you saved my TX16s from Rubish!

I found out that if you make some changes in your themes, some files can get corrupt and than it can go into emergency mode. Im really sure about this (in my case) because if i deleted the specific theme, the problem was gone. Then i placed it back, the problem came back inmideatly.

Before you go down a rabbit hole and disassemble your radio, power down and pop the SD card out and reinsert. That solved the problem with mine running Edge 2.7.

Awesome! I’m glad you guys figured it out. Now if we could only understand why it happened and why that fixed it... What gave you the idea to detach and reattach ribbon cables? We’re you going to just keep going one part at a time until it hopefully worked?

Thanks for sharing. I too have a tx16s, 6 months old, but almost unused, turned on a few times to learn but not got very far and not even programmed a model yet. Been on a shelf for 3 months and now doesn’t turn on, battery good. Will try your suggestion but why should it happen in the first place? So much hype about this radio before the launch so I got one but not impressed, my old taranis has been trouble free for years. 🤔

Hey, so my issue is that it turns on for a brief second in Emergency mode but turns off almost instantly. Barely long enough to see the emergency mode screen. Any ideas? Was this the same thing you had? or did yours stay on and not turn off but just emergency mode? Thanks!

My TX16S recently and unexpectedly began to display Emergency Mode and would not function. The cure was to remove and reinstall the ribbon cable, which resolved the problem, similar to 2:13 of this video. The ribbon cable can be a bit troublesome to reinstall and a gentle touch is needed to reseat the cable into place. It took me a few tries before the ribbon cable was realigned and reseated into place. When reseating the cable, you can feel the black cable connector “pop” into place. Just go slow and easy.

I had a difrent problem. To me switch SA and right slider was not working corectly. They looked like connected. They where efecting each other`s outputs. I triyed same fix and it worked. Thank you wery much.

I got that issue ones i was using some cheap 18650 on my radiomaster..After Changing the Battery and calibrate the voltage ..all fine 👍

In my case it helps only for few minutes - hours. I'm starting to think that maybe ribbon cable is defective.

This fixed mine too but my cable had gold contacts and looked perfect. I didnt even clean them just pull out and put in. I think it might be related to battery backed ram on the daugter board. Did anyone try and pull the button cell after using a new SD card. ( because Sd card may be corrputing the memeroy write my bricked after changing default model name

It worked for me too but be very gentle with the lock bar, they are fragile and it could mean a pcb replacement.

Hi. Today I came home and I heard low voltage warning from storage box. Radio turned ON by itself. I cannot be turned OFF permanently. It turns OFF, starts to quietly buzz and comes back ON by itself. After re-plugging battery it went to Emergency mode (without touching button). After powering OFF, it came ON by itself to normal. My flat cable contacts were clean. I cleaned them anyway by ispropyl and seated them carefully. First boot also went into Emergency mode. But after first normal turn OFF and ON everything seems to be ok. Now I am bit suspicious about my radio dependability.....

Mine turns off when I turn on external / cf and then starts in emergency mode and goes right back off. Do not think it is the cable. But who has the problem you can try to stick on the back of the ribbon cable some scotch tape for more contact.

mine is stuk in dfu mode,,,do you think this will fix it?

i didnt do nothing, no tranfered radio's, no changed profiles nothing, just did it out of the blue - my radio is fairly new, why would i need to clean a ribbon cable thats brandnew :( damn, radio module.. damn ok, ill get to work then...

Sot tired of this radio just dying for no reason at all. When it's working, it works great. When it stops working, you're phvcked. All you get is bouncing chicken feet and nothing else, no emergency mode, no boot loader mode. I've already RMA'd this unit once. They "fixed it", sent it back with old firmware, so I flashed it, booted to new firmware and my old settings on SDcard once, then after that... nothing but dead unit and chicken feet. Think is I just flashed my other TX-16s with same firmware 5 minutes earlier without a problem, so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing :-/
