Here we cook up some dehydrated chilli and have a delicious meal. Later that night we deal with some really heavy rain. A good challenge for the tarp setup.
This is on a 5 day solo canoe trip with my dog Lucy in Algonquin park that I did the in middle of August. It was a great over all trip where I go through some tips & tricks, review some gear, try out a new tarp pitch, see beautiful wildlife and get through some thunderstorms in the night. I hope you enjoy it!
Much love,
Troy

Nothing like a good thunderstorm/heavy rain to help a wilderness trip get "real" in a hurry. Great to see your tarp/tent mesh set-up in action and working well. Well done. Oh, and there are a lot of jealous dogs out there who wish they slept that cozy at home!

It really did come down. I wasn't too sure with the tarp setup but it held up great. Thanks for tuning in Tom.

Fantastic Troy another great vid. I have to say that you have been one of my inspirations to me being successful in buying my own canoe and getting out there on the amazing lakes over here in Finland. It's just and epic way to travel and i'm so glad that i watched your channel many years ago. Many thanks and great work on videos and content :)

Great video, Troy! Curious though, did you abandon the rain fly due to weight or just revert to the simplicity of a tarp?
@MaddyTheGoose

A little bit of both actually. I was really working to get the weight down to a base of under 25lbs so I tossed the fly to help get it there. I really enjoyed being able to see my surroundings while in the tent with this setup, however it does take a fair bit of extra time and effort compared to just the fly. Going with just a tarp would be nice but with the bugs in this area it can be a real hell without a bivvy or some kind of complete coverage. I have a video coming out after this one in bug season which will be an eye opener for anyone who hasn't seen how bad the bugs can get. I have also picked up a Warbonnet hammock so I'll be giving that a go this season. Should be interesting with a dog. I'll bring my Jack Russel, Toby, along for that one. Thanks for watching and writing!

How did you get your bear rope so high?
@MaddyTheGoose
@MaddyTheGoose 7 лет назад
I tie a rock to my painter (the rope from the front of the boat) and give it a good toss. If I have a clear shot sometimes I'll tie my water bottle to it. It's just easier to tie on and throw. Just being lazy really. So far I haven't gotten it stuck up there, but one day maybe I may not be so lucky. Wouldn't recommend but will probably still do it :) Thanks for watching!
