Typical UK weather stops flying this weekend so decided to try a vlog style video to share some of my ideas and plans.

Any ideas on the XLE pitch up problem please share via comment.

The Pro Plus will be the 6S fast DJI plane the long range should be called the AR Pro Slow I guess :-)

you said key words at the end i hope you make thru on your promise definitely continue to fly new spots too many ppl just too lazy or don't wanna spend that gasoline to actually drive 4-6 hours and explore everybody just wanna run to their field and fly the same boring patterns and upload like we already haven't seen the same crap a hundred times

Thats the plan Skyforce COVID has prevented me from doing it this last couple of summers. I plan to also travel abroad to some interesting places.

Hi Glenn, good to see another upload from you. I like the mods for the xle wings, I'll certainly add them to mine too. The issue with it pitching up on higher throttle I solved by adding an elevon/throttle mix off a manual switch that I operated when above around 50% throttle. This was in manual mode using kopilot though, not INAV sadly. I could make it work off a logic switch too I think. I'm sure you will come up with the solution before I get my INAV build finished. Still conducting a few recce's on other spots down here as previously discussed. Will make for some great footage if we can jack it up in due course. Cheers Mick.

Hi Mick, the wingtip reinforcements seemed to work I had a hard landing in my next video and they stood up well. I have solved the pitching up issue (shown in next video) and am really happy with the XLE now and looking forward to fine tuning her for some long range. Spring will soon be here and then we can start thinking about dates for a meetup down your way.

Cool mods! That 0.4mm pla reinforcement is very clever! The down trim on that dart looks like the CG is very tail heavy, especially with an additional runcam adding to it. The general CG rule is 3 to 1: for every gram of tail weight, you’ll need 3 in nose to balance. Maybe shifting the battery forward or flying a heavier one will help. Either way, I hope it works out. Keep up the great work!

Cheers James, it turns out the thrust angle of the motor was causing the issue. I shimmed the top bolts and went out today and setup constant Autotrim and it was like night and day and the launches are also now perfect. Video to follow on my progress, thanks for the input it is always appreciated.

Aaah! Makes sense! I've never met a pusher config that didn't have some thrust angle up-tilt. I'm glad you found and fixed the culprit! Looking forward to the next update!

I ordered the white "eachine" AR Pro last week too. I had the original black AR Pro last year and mainly because I had many other planes, I ended up selling it. I will be interested in how you get on with the CG on your superlightweight 6S version, as I found it needed a fair deal of nose weight to achieve CG, basically I couldn't get CG without a "normal" GoPro in the nose. But I'll be watching with interest 👍

I think it might be a bit of a challenge to get CG but lets see how it goes when I get into the build.

I fiddled around with the thrust angle on my Dolphin last week. Same experience, couldn't get it in the air propperly until I ponted the motor a bit more up again by taking one of the two washers out. I did some more adjutments after analysing, letz's see how it turns out the next time. As expected, the bird got almost 10km/h faster with a better adjusted thrust angle.

Hi Bernhard thanks for the information. I had to do that on my version 1 XLE but they said they fixed it with this version. I will have to do some experimenting.

I thought the motor mount is glued badly, because of the angle and I straightened it with washers, so I might have messed it up myself, but it flies great so I don't mess with it.

@@bluefish3607 I guess the trick is to find the happy medium. The stabilized modes tend to make things worse because they countersteer to much especially when starting and landing and create an even worste stall condition by doing so.

I think the easiest way to shed weight on the ar pro would be to move the motor forward a bit internalising it somewhat. That would eliminate the need for balast weight up front.

Sorry for late reply Andrew, I have had an issue with RU-vid not displaying all my comments, fixed now. Not sure how you could do that but I guess it would work. I use 5000mah 4S and a GoPro Hero 6 so no need for ballst. May as well have battery rather than dead weight I figured.

Sorry Henry missed your message. AR Pro all the way Dart XL has very delicate nose and foam, does not like high speed flying at all. AR Pro is a brilliant all rounder.

Hi that was the AR pro I was flying at the Quarry and yes that was normal speed, I never speed up videos.

Can't believe you set those elevons with down trim on them at 1500.. In the video, you can see the upthrust on the motor mount causing the climb on application of power. Of course the way to deal with it, is to put the plane into a stabilised mode like Horizon at a modest power level and let iNAV use constant trim to make it fly level. When you switch to manual, there should not be a massive trim change provided you use the same level of power of course. Now, apply more power and observe what it does, if it climbs badly shim the top two motor lugs to cure it. All this assumes you have the board angle set somewhere near too of course. Be aware, this badly designed plane suffers from pitch up as you apply more power, it's been demonstrated so many times by others. Great to see your OSD overlay on your HD feed...I think iNAV are currently trying to do this for DJI users in version 4.10. Early days though...🤔😳😳🇬🇧

Thanks for the tips I think you are absolutely correct, I have shimmed the top of the motor and test flew with constant Autotrim set and it was like night and day. I never thought to switch into manual and do the throttle up test which I will do next flight as part of fine tuning things. OSD in inav 4.10 will be fantastic as Dashware takes some work to setup every time. Thanks for your input, very uesful indeed

can you tell a difference in the new motor on your ar pro compared to the stock motor ?

Hi John I have not flown the stock motor as my AR Pro’s are kits and do not come with motor. All I can say is that the SunnySky Mark III motors are excellent and this 1400kv on 4S with an 8x6 prop is a joy to fly. Good smooth power delivery with plenty of grunt for good speed and fast climbs even when carrying a 5000mah lipo.
