RAM Truck and Jeep SUV dealerships are in some serious trouble in 2023 and things are about to get ugly. With Ford Truck and Toyota Truck prices rising can RAM & Jeep become competitive in 2023 with Ford, Toyota and GM? Or will rising Truck & SUV prices be the downfall of RAM and Jeep Dealerships? Only Scotty Kilmer will know the truth! Lol.

I'd like to see the same for HOUSE prices, too, as the housing and auto markets are VERY similar. But more importantly (for me), I need to see interest rates come down, because as long as they stay high, mortgage interests keep me from being a buyer vs, a renter. And of course, if buying a vehicle, higher rates mean higher pay'ts each month (same as overpriced/inflated mortgage pay'ts). As for vehicles -- since this is a car channel and not real estate (!) -- I got current Daily Driver (and ONLY vehicle) new back in April 2021, and at a pretty decent deal (AND financing)...couldn't get anywhere near that price or interest rate today. Hoping by late 2025/early 2026, things in BOTH markets will at least become more affordable (like both were 2-3 years ago). I'm in TX now, but would like to go back to CO and buy a property...IF things improve there. And, my Jeep Gladiator (Rubicon) is more at home in CO than TX. ;-) -- BR

The biggest change I've seen in the past year is that I used to think of MSRP prices as pretty much fixed for a model year. It seems like there might have been slight changes through a year, like $1,000 or $2,000 in the past. No longer. With approximations, at the beginning of 2022 a Tacoma TRD Off-Road had an MSRP under $40,000 and a Wrangler Sport S 4-door with hardtop was maybe $40,000 or $42,000. Now that same Tacoma starts at $42,000 and the same Wrangler starts MSRP at $46,000 but dealer prices are over $50,000. As much as I'd like to get a good 4x4 truck or SUV in the next year or two, the $50,000 level or above is not going to happen.

A new manual base sport gladiator in 2021 could be ordered for 35k out the door including the interest paid on the loan in that price. In 2020, i saw a few sell for 29k out the door (price doesnt include loan interest). They're now like 42k for the same truck lol. And they still haven't fixed the clutch issues. People are stupid if they're paying these prices at the current interest rates.

Since it's been almost 10 years since I bought it, I went to the local dealers looking at going back to a Wrangler now that the kids are all grown. I was also in shock. It looks like I'll be keeping my JGC and maybe get a fun little convertible for the warmer months instead. Now way I'm paying the kind of money they are asking for. I say let them pile up. They took advantage with their constant rising prices and then the dealers just add on their own interpretation of a reasonable price hehe. For example. About 2 years ago I was looing for a Dodge Challenger Scatpack. Saw the price of the msrp and nearly fell over. I asked the dealer what the other paper next to the window sticker was about and he said that its about supply and demand. He said we are allowed to price the vehicle at what they thought it should go for. I said isnt what the msrp was for and was told that they are selling because of what people are willing to pay. They were adding 8k to the msrp so I just left and now we get to determine the msrp so I say lets give them a taste of their own medicine !!

The really interesting thing is your paying 60 to 90 K for trucks that are not even close to being as reliable as vehicles from 40 and 50 years ago . The main problem is the electronics are so complex that common electronic problems are never corrected . THe cost to fix 8 and 10 speed automatic transmission is more than trucks cost 25 years ago. You can buy an old truck spend 10 to 15 K and have something way more reliable and better looking than the overblown , bloated , rust bucket ,electronic nightmares that pass for trucks now.
