The Holy Qur'an is the final message, which confirms and corrects what has come to us of the previous Books. In our Ramadan & Revelation series, Dr. Ali Ataie, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, examines the four major scriptures. This episode explores the Torah, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, with historical and textual context. What does it tell us about the Prophet Moses and the perfectly preserved miracle of the Qur'an? Join us in the first lecture of the series and deepen your understanding of the revelations that came before through the lenses of both historical and religious narratives.

JazakAllah khayr Dr. Ataie for this excellent video. 1:25 , it is important to note that traditional Jewish sources do state that the Torah was given through Angels. Here are a few examples: 1- "When Moses ascended on high, a cloud came up against him, and Moses our teacher did not know if one rides it or holds it. Immediately, the cloud opened its mouth and Moses entered it, and he walked into the firmament like a man walking on land,... He encountered Kemu'el, the guardian angel in charge of the twelve thousand angels of destruction who were standing at the gates of the firmament. He rebuked Moses, saying to him: "What do you have, son of Amram, that you should come into the place of the Fiery Angels?" Moses said to him: "I did not come merely by myself, but only with the permission of the Holy One, Blessed be He, to receive the Torah and bring it down to Israel... And Moses continued walking in the firmament until he confronted the angel Hadraniel. They said about the angel Hadraniel that he is taller than his kinsman -- six-hundred thousand parasangs [tall] -- and with each and every word that comes out of his mouth, twelve thousand bolts of fire come out of his mouth (all at once). And when he saw Moses he rebuked him, saying, "What do you have, son of Amram, in the place of the highest holiness?" When Moses heard his voice, Moses became afraid before him. And his eyes were dripping tears and he wanted to be let down from the cloud. ... When Moses saw Sandalphon, he was immediately startled and hastened to go down from the cloud, and his eyes were dripping tears, and he asked for mercy before the Holy One, Blessed be He. ... Immediately, the Holy One, Blessed be He, sent it [the river of fire] away, and he [Moses] came upon Galizur, called Raziel, about whom it is said, "Is it not at the word of the Most High, that evil and good emanate?" [Lamentations 3: 39] ... When Moses saw him, he trembled. Immediately, the Holy One, Blessed be He, took him and removed him from there. ... *And He, the Holy One, Blessed be He, taught him [Moses] the whole Torah in forty days. And when he [Moses] came to descend [from the firmament] and saw the awesomeness of the angels, and the legions of awesome angels -- trembling [zia] angels, and shuddering [chalchala] angels, and quaking [ratat] angels -- immediately, shuddering [chalchala] took hold of him and he forgot it [the Torah] all at one moment. Immediately, the Holy One, Blessed be He, called to Yefefiah, Minister of Torah, who gave over to him [Moses] the Torah, fully prepared and preserved. And all the ministering angels became his [Moses's] admirer. And each one of them gave him something of healing and the hidden meaning of names that comes out of each and every section of Torah [parsha] and all their uses, as it says, "You went up to the heights, having taken captives, having received tribute of men" [Psalm 68:19]. And even the Angel of Death gave him something, as it is written: "He places the incense and made expiation for the people" [Numbers 17: 12]. And this is the honorable use of that which was taught to him by Yefefiah, the Minister of Torah, and by Metatron, Minister of the Faces...* " Source: Maayan HaChochmah (Version 1) 2- " *Immediately, each and every one of the angels became an admirer of Moses and passed something to him,* as it is stated: “You ascended on high, you took a captive, you took gifts on account of man, and even among the rebellious also that the Lord God might dwell there” (Psalms 68: 19). The meaning of the verse is: In reward for the fact that they called you man, you are not an angel and the Torah is applicable to you, you took gifts from the angels. *And even the Angel of Death gave him something, as Moses told Aaron how to stop the plague, as it is stated: “And he placed the incense, and he atoned for the people” (Numbers 17: 12). And the verse says: “And he stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stopped” (Numbers 17: 13). If it were not that the Angel of Death told him this remedy, would he have known it?* " Source: Shabbat 89a:2

It would be good to explain how Moses and original Judaism would not encourage the radical extremism we are seeing recently.

In an other podcast i heard scholars talking about bibles sumerian origin like yahwe had dad called el. Yahwe is begotten son of El also had wife. So basically reffering to other cananite, sumerian, akkadian, assirian, babylonian myths that later got canonized by Israelites into their scriptures.

I saw jewish calendar is year 5778 my question from where did jews got their calendar from unlike hijra calendar or gregorian calendar which associate their counting of year with certain event like birth of jesus & hijra of prophet. this jewish calendar predates moses time. So they got it probably from ancient cananite or sumerian or egyptian origin.

Asalamoalaekum from Washington DC. Thanks/ Jkkk for the presentation. Wanted to find out from Dr Ataie how much of the Torah is intact and has it evolved with additions and deletions as the Christians did with their scripture. And does the Torah have the account and philosophy of the current Zionist in action that we are experiencing theses days in Gaza. I can’t believe any scripture calls other fellow human beings as animals to be killed ? for what crime.

Verse 6:154 of Surah Al-An'am in the Quran says, "Then We gave to Moses the Book, completing the benediction of Allah upon the one who acts righteously, spelling out everything clearly". I think Dr Altaie will do a service to God when he will actually engage the text and ignore the voices of liberal scholars. To have knowledge and to be wise are very different. One is rooted in pride and group identity, the other in the desire to live by truth and elevate God. Not the same...
