I also understand the song as a memorial for the disaster at Ramstein Airbase. One has inevitably the images of the disaster again in the head. The song lyrics were written not far from me in a pub. Till wanted all band members to express their thoughts about the Ramstein disaster. So it is one of the few songs of Rammstein where all band members were involved in the lyrics. Till's flamethrowers cost 15,000 euros, by the way. One of the band members once told that they didn't work very reliably and failed completely at one show. Till was so angry about it that he first took them off and then broke something cheaper.

Yes, I saw them (for the 5th time) in Munich last Sunday and this song was the first one in the second encore section. Paul and Richard had flame-throwing guitars, Till has a jacket that sends separate jets of fire at the same time (I count nine in my photos) so that he looks a bit like a fiery peacock. The have the same massive stage set that they had last year, so you have fire shooting up into the sky from that and from the towers out in the audience. There’s always a fun, party atmosphere at a Rammstein concert but one in Germany is something special: you can hear the entire audience singing along with every song (me included). Incredible.

Burning Till is the only true form of this performance. All these flashy flamethrowers are "cool" but they miss the point in my opinion.

2 friends of mine were at this air show with the father of one of the teenagers. They never talked about it much, but one thing they did share was a person on fire that they both saw. The three people were incredibly lucky not to get hurt themselves or worse. Needless to say how distraught the boys were afterwards and I don't think one of them ever really got over it in the following years, which isn't surprising... The sheer horror.

This song is about the Ramstein AB airshow disaster in 1988 I believe that killed about 70. There is an even better version of this song in which Til is wearing a heavy fireproof jacket and wearing googles and the jacket is on fire.

I heard this song so long ago for the first time on a compilation CD that was dark music (I am not sure how else to descibe) but it was a CD in the vein of "X-Files" and told nothing of the individual songs except who performed it. I had no idea of any connection to anything else except right now. Just what you said ... I had no idea. Just a song that has power and sticks in my head.

Rammstein hits this song right in our face, brutal and honest...to show us that alot of sad tragedies like this one, at an event of a superfluous air show, could be avoided. But no, too often ignorant humans didn´t learn a shit. After the Ramstein incident dangerous Air shows went on like nothing happened, and many more people died at several air shows the following years.... I really thought you had chosen a newer performance for this song. This multicam live video from 2019 in Berlin, uploaded by "Nightwolf", is one of the best I've seen so far in terms of quality and sound. In some songs, Rammstein are chroniclers of terrible things that happened. Sometimes it is quite uncomfortable to know the background. But I think these songs are not disrespectful to the victims.

can't quite figure out how to request a song and unfortunately times are such that I can't afford to do the membership thing. I will take a stab here. Love your reactions and would love to see you watch "Falling in Reverse" (group headed by Ronnie Radke) latest song "Watch the World Burn" video.
