This was the very first Ramones song and the very first punk rock song I ever heard. I was 9 years old, 1991. My whole world changed after that. Still holds up, you never forget things like that. Adults just don’t hear music like this the same way the kids do. And that’s what it’s all about.

i was finally tall enough to reach where the radio was on top of the fridge, with help of a chair. My mom was in the bathroom and i realized i can finally hear what i want. It was 1984, I was 9, I was tired of school, bullies, cops. I spun the dial to a New York station, I couldn't believe what I heard at all. Some live feed from a Ramones show. Joey yelling at some jerk." Yo, Hey, Yo.. Yeah, I said 'Fuck off and die, Yeah , Fuck off and die" . DeeDee counts to 4 and "Chainsaw" starts. Hearing that downstroke felt as natural as wood. I felt like I'd found my tribe..no one agreeing but to dance.

In 1992 I played this film clip while doing my English class major presentation on the Ramones as they relate to the history of punk and modern rock. It goes without saying that the teacher had some concerns as to the state of my mental health and many of my fellow students were a little shocked. Ramones forever!

@Stig Weard I went to a very conservative Catholic high school and neither my teacher nor the students were familiar with the Ramones or punk, I'm also well aware of when the Ramones started, it was 1974 so it was 17 years after they played their first, there was also quite a bit of tongue in cheek in my statement so thanks for questioning my reality but I hope I cleared that up to your satisfaction 😂

@Stig Weard I could show this to 50 people I know right now and shock the shit out of them. And I live 20 mins from where the Ramones formed. We live in America homie. People are afraid everything. I had a similar experience when I incorporated the bad religion logo into some of my 8th grade art class work. The teacher thought I was messed up. It's very common to happen upon misunderstanding as a punk loving kid.

For real! Playing full bar chords exclusively with downstrokes at a fast tempo is physically very demanding. Playing their songs well takes tremendous stamina and I don't think many guitar players realize that.

Ramones are legends for many reasons, not least of which was their cognisance of and focus on mental health. We all need people to confide in and outlets for us to be our best selves. I'm very thankful for this band, without them, music wouldn't be as fun. I hope you're out there, somebody like me. Subterranean Jungle kicks ass.

I love Subterranean Jungle! All I thought about my first time to NYC last year riding the subway was The Ramones and that album being on the subway. I also agree with what you said about metal health. The Ramones were advocates for mental health lath way before it was ever a thing. I always found comfort with The Ramones with my own mental issues my Brother! Subterranean kicks ass!

They played a private show in 92' at Carnegie Mellon Univ.....we heard about it and knew we had to get in....snuck into the show after they opened and got thrown out within minutes by security. I cant count how many times I saw the Ramones live in the 80's and 90's but every show was awesome.....1 2 3 4!!!!!!!

Ramones were my first music Love (other than 50's music). I clung to them because I have severe OCD and ADHD and they understand my pain. I thank God for them because it's nice to listen to music that expresses how I feel.

Severe OCD here too. I love all their "mental health" songs (Shock Treatment, Teenage Lobotomy, etc.) I've found it helps when you can watch or listen to something like this and laugh and sing along and just feel better for awhile. Not so fun fact - Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' was released around the same time as this video. MTV found 'Psycho Therapy' to be too violent, offensive, obscene, disturbing etc., so if it was played, it maybe happened once. Idk how many of you out there grew up in the 80's, but 'Thriller' was played quite often when it was first released and there was def repeats of it from time to time. So basically a music video with zombies and other horror related content wasn't an issue, but the behavior of patients in a mental ward is just too graphic?...(sigh/groan!)🙄

ATTENTION RAMONES/HORROR MOVIE FANS: The end of this video is a parody/tribute of a great horror film, from I think the early '70's; but I can't remember the name! In the pivotal scene, a negligent bunch of asylum staff are eating gluttonously at a banquet table and fall asleep. One errant patient steals the keys and VERY QUIETLY let's out the other patients, who have been abused. One patient approaches the sleeping table with a half-broken sherry or champaign glass.
