I haven't even watched this yet and I'm so excited. I've been wanting to put together a Ramos deck for a while. Thank you for all of your commander content. This is my favorite Channel hands down!
My friend's Ramos won on turn 5 through disruption, he played Villainous Wealth X being about two hundred and copied it twice. Conflux tutoring Leyline of Anticipation is crazy strong.
Hi, I’m from the future. I found a copy of Ramos in a binder I had forgotten about and I’m looking to build an EDH deck with him as my commander. I like where this deck is headed and plan to us this video as a launch point.
Happy New Years Jumbo. The first time I played Ramos as my commander I won. The next 8 was a sorry lost. My 3 opponents would hit me right away with counter spells. They would hit my Hexproof and Shroud equipment's and enchantments right away. Every turn my life counters just drip...drip...drip. I changed my land cards and at most 50 lands than the usual 38. Somebody killed me with Bloodmoon, Armageddon and Winter Orb. The basic landcycling is a very good idea, just learned it now. I'll upgrade my deck.
Honestly, when you are getting targeted that badly you might end up losing no matter what deck you play. I'd let Ramos sit on the shelf a little while to "reset" your friends' perception of the deck.
My solution is your Erebos commander deck. They hate it so much they target me right away. The problem is I cast a card it targets all opponents closely Myriad.
hey there, I personally love Ramos and he is my favorite general, but due to him being an artifact i rarely get to keep him on the battlefield. Our decks are similar except for i went multicolored baddies/charm instead of spellslinger style. I'm glad you mentioned door to nothingness, but you missed out on Legacy weapon - probably my favorite card in the deck. Merciless eviction is a great day saver that you can fetch with conflux if you're in dire need of board wipage. I personally included maelstrom archangel, you don't get the cast triggers but you get to put anything on to the battlefield, Scion for the EZ 5 counters, and the new Ur-dragon (again you put permantents onto the battlefield but the card draw is decent) - these last two work well with the dragon synergy with taigam/crux of fate. Also you mentioned drawing cards being an issue, i would recommend the Tamiyo field researcher PW - she is 3 colors and give you draw. Also, Captain Sisay works wonders with fetching any of the big baddies it would take to win. Would love to go Ramos v. Ramos v. Ramos v. Ramos with you and some other willing participants one day because i do believe he is the most flexible general out there.
Such a great and versatile commander. For mana base you can include City of Brass, Command Tower, Exotic Orchard, Forbidden Orchard, Gemstone Mine, Mana Confluence and Opal Palace among any combination of duals or tri lands. I run Tendo Ice Bridge as a pet card.
With maelstrom nexus you get the 5 counters on ramos pass turn remove cou ters cast spell cascade, they bith say each turn. As long as you get 5 counters on ramos by the next players turn you can keep casting spells with that 10 mana ritual
Moving forward, any deck that functions reasonably well without casting the commander will be tucked under Ramos. It could be five color nekusar. Mono green elves. Infect beatdown. Planeswalker tribal. But the opponent will never be able to know by just looking at the commander. It shall be called "Box of Chocolates". B/c you never know what you're going to get.
Commander is so fun, for its variety of combinations, and all the new cards each year ! There are so many things I want to try out, an dI dont know wich one to do firsttttttt
If you add one time warp effect to a ramos list it will make conflux usually a win with one counterspell backup, also tutor to time warp effect is easiest storm enabler since there will be some regrowths
On your tapped out. "Mayael's Aria" card. First time to see this card. Few of my decks that has Black includes "Dark Depths". I'm afraid if I cast counter removal cards so I can create Marit Lage, it does not synergized or its counteracts Ramos.
Hey DJ, I know it's been a while but I'm curious if you've played this deck enough to say if it still holds up. Just got a Ramos yesterday and wanna consider this style of deck
Oh that's a really, over-the-top, fun line, one of the searched for cards can be recursion so you can cast Conflux over again. This has to just win the game. Amazing sequence! Thanks
Ramos is amazing but I stuck with my Ur Dragon as commander and Ramos as one of the 99. Mind's Dilation is so fun, I use that in my Lazav deck. Ramos synergizes really well and it is funny how big it can get, most the time when Ramos is out the game quickly snowballs out of control from the mana production. Looking over the decklist I would recommend (for budget players) to get all the Lairs!, they make it so much easier in making 5 colour decks and you can as a player tap mana, return land when playing lair and then tap the lair of more mana so your not to far behind in mana production and finally Dragons, Lairs do I need to write more vorthos wise?:P
I've got a $1200 Ramos deck and love it! It needs some mana fixing and card draw so I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the possibilities Ramos holds!
Ummm....what? You honestly didn't need to spend so much money on your Ramos deck. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but last night I used a carefully tuned under $160 Ramos deck against three spike players at FNM who like you, love fast combos and masterpiece foils, and I stopped the Daretti with a single Putrefy, Stopped Ur Dragon and Test of Endurance with just Sylvan Reclamation, then won the game next turn, with Bounding Krasis, a 20 cent card. Just be careful not to overpay.
Didn't sink that much into it. It's what it's worth. For instance, the Masterpiece Sol Ring I pulled in Kaladesh covers $200 right there. I agree with what you're saying, however.
I love this deck I've been running a relatively similar build but I left Ramos behind cause he drew to much hate for my meta. So I'm running cromat multicolored spell slinger where I just cast and copy really fun cards
Gustavo Paiva I remember having a plan to make a yidris living end deck. Basically the same idea as the modern deck but adding in new perspectives, some wheels, and a couple of the kaladesh expertise spells
i have a very toxicly powerfull deck ( that can be made better if i put staples) so for those who want to know more about it i can link up the decklist the more people that runs ramos the happyer i get its so over looked and underrated for how powerful it is
And while you're at it, think about some of the "5c" creatures you could be playing: Maelstrom Archangel, Bringer of the Black Dawn, Bringer of the Blue Dawn. They work well with Ramos and help you tutor up whatever you need. Bonus originality points as you almost never see them in EDH either.
l0k the Bringers are mono color, right? Isn't that why the 5 mana symbols are grayed out, because the alternative casting cost is not part of their color identity?
I think you could make an awesome +1/+1 counter deck with ramos. Corpsejack Menace, Winding Constrictor, Atraxa, Walking Ballista, Vorel, so many cool options!
It sounds really fun but I‘m pretty sure that it would frustrate the hell out of me keeping track of all these triggers and effects once the deck does what it does.
Jumbo Commander stick an abzan charm and one other 2 color spell and you’ve got an infinite mana/draw loop. Seems janky enough to invest effort in trying.
I want to start off by saying that I know this is off subject, but it needs to be said. My local game shop closed down and while I'm occasionally able to get a couple of friends to come play commander on my kitchen table, I'm seriously hurting for some competitive play. I would love to get some opinions on some of my homebrewed decks, just so I can at least have the illusion of being in a playgroup again.
I'm so sorry to hear that your LGS closed. It's a rough business people! Go hug your LGS and tell it that you love them. Homebrew competitive stuff? Throw some awesome janky brew my way and I'd love to check it out.
He might be too scary to issue hugs ... all covered in metal and the size of a landscape .... the Iron Giant is the only massive robot I would want to hug.
i run cruf of fate and duneblast myself, but had trouble with supreme verdict. I threw out of the deck due to me sometimes cascading into it when i relly didnt want it.
It sucks to whiff on a cascade. Remember that the cascade resolves before the card you are casting so if it is the first cascade off of maelstrom wanderer you get to wipe the board, cascade again, then the wanderer comes in and you can slam into your defenseless opponent. But poor Ramos :(
Great video as always! How do you feel about the partner commanders? I feel that they're underrated (outside the super competitive breakfast hulk decks)
Jumbo Commander Thank you for the reply! Wow 4! That's more than I expected. I have 5, but those are my only decks. I made it my sole purpose to find a synergy that works for each 4 color pairings. If you have time I have small write up on mtgsalvation found here: www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/multiplayer-commander-decklists/787469-partner-commanders-nono-r-zombie-token-swarm
I think the lawbringer could be great because it is a place to pour all of our extra mana, Azor's gateway looks insane BUT this deck would prefer true looting to exile looting because we use the graveyard. The sea monster is another big beater and I think awesome (and I will run him in decks) but ultimately very replaceable.
I saw a guy who ran reaper king as his commander. The 99 was all changelings and the best lords/tribal spells in all of magic. Looked super fun to play
An update video would be nice. Maybe after you have play-tested a few decks, then do a compilation video with a couple of minutes on each ones' changes and the reasoning.
I forgot to mention another reason why flash (Leyline of Anticipation & Vedalken Orrery). You can float the mana in response to removal/wipe then flash your commander back out afterwards with its own mana. This trick was really important in my Omanth, Locus of Mana deck.
I think you could include all of these types of creatures. Mana Gorger Hydra, Chasm Skulker, That azorious bird dude, taurean mauler. Ramos could be an awesome +1/+1 counter general.
Username Unidentified Ramos is 5 color as it has all colors in an activated ability. The extort ability on blind obedience shows the black/white as a reminder text therefore it does not count towards commander color identification.
