The first hand is essentially a cooler especially with that flop and the second one isn't badly played by Rampage either. Bluffing with a range advantage, turning equity, and then being at the rock bottom of your range, can't fault it tbh. Too much results oriented thinking in the comments as per usual
@andrehanderson
@andrehanderson 2 года назад
Exactly right. Neither was a punt. Pretty standard and I'd argue he lost the minimum in the first hand. I think he can fold pre in the second hand against a guy like Garrett, but the call was probably fine as well.
@delg1211
@delg1211 2 года назад
First hand Was a cooler, not "essentially". Second was poorly played. Called a $3,900 3 bet with 4/5, then misses a wet flop and still fires $6,500 into who he Knows is a heavyweight. The heavyweight calls. The pot is now big enough for him to Shut down and hope his runner-runner comes in (yes, 1st half of R-R came in, but it he had to know he was behind). Instead, he fires $16k. If he was still grasping at completing a miracle river to complete his R-R, *check call* there. ~But he took the loss like a champ, mad respect there.

@@andrehanderson yeah ofc there's always something to be said for avoiding playing big pots with marginal holdings against the strongest player at the table (doubly so when it's GA himself), but playing cash deep stacked, calling a 3-bet with a suited connector in position has to be fine.
@Cardb33
@Cardb33 2 года назад
No man that second hand was just pure punting I don't know how you can justify that play. I knew from the turn that Rampage was punting. He's a good player most of the time but he refuses to give up on hands, Garrett isn't calling down that turn then having another card interacting with the board show up (with all the draws missing btw) and now he's going to fold to a bigger bet from someone he knows is bluff happy? He needs to realize that rich kids and old businessmen might fold good made hands cause they're scared to lose their $5k-10k but a pro like Garrett isn't going to buy that stuff. He has to learn that he's not going to win every pot and that shutting it down is okay, live to fight another day. I think he'll learn from this and tighten up the bluffing, I think part of it is his playstyle and part of it is wanting to get us interesting content but he can do that without losing $150k seeing him make sound plays is better than seeing him do that it was painful to watch.

Per the other comments, I don’t think Rampage was flexing his bankroll or punted his stack off. If you listen to some of his table talk during the stream he’s trying grow his audience and make poker vlogging more mainstream. Watching vloggers playing these stakes is exciting, a lot more so than the typical 1/3 stakes you usually see. We’ve only just started seeing Andrew and Brad dabble in these sorts of stakes, so hats off to Rampage for taking a big gamble - mad respect to him AA vs AK on a K high flop is just a cooler.

Garrett was eyeing him down waiting for that bet he already knew what was going on. His playstyle works against the random rich kids and old businessmen he plays against on random tables cause they're scared to lose $5k-10k calling off with a good but not great hand, pros like Garrett aren't scared to lose money they just make solid sound moves. Ethan is a good player 80% of the time but he needs to learn to give up on hands, he's lucky it wasn't his whole stack you know he thought about it and there was absolutely no bluffs all the draws missed and the only thing that beat Garrett was a Full House which he blocked with his own 10 and he already knew he didn't have that kind of hand.

Rampage is a decent low limit player that has had unusual success in tournaments. Weekends like the past one are the experience he needs realizing that he really has been very lucky, 150k loss in two days will wake him up quickly. You can flip coins in tournaments and bink one when the 8 times you got it in bad turns into suckouts. But great cash game players are immeasurably better at cash than great tournament players are at tournaments. Those 8 get it in bad situations aren't just a lost tournament buyin, they lead to the 150k the dude just lost, and the 50k he lost in this class a couple months back. Rampage should do research on Archie Karas and maybe find him in some 100 buck entry tournament he plays now after burning 30 million. Or Gus Hansons 20 plus million in online losses.

For those saying he makes so much money and this is nothing to him blah blah. I advise you watch the AK hand again, then the 45. Look how clearly shaken and broken he is. Especially after the AK hand. You can see it in his face how much a pot size like that means to him. Notice how when other guys at these tables lose a 70K pot or 140K pot, they dont look like you could fry an egg on their forehead?

I don't know the history between players, but if we look at this hand in isolation Rampage played this "standard", this can never be titled a "PUNT". If you 3-bet folding AK then your opponent is a nit, which Garrett certainly isn't. After the turn check, TPTK is almost always good against a polarized 4-bet range, so the check-call on the river facing a half pot bet is mandatory.

The really interesting part of this hand is how Garrett plays it. He knows on the turn he can only beat AK and QQ. He goes into pot control mode and makes a river bet small enough to get paid off by those hands and still leave a back door if rampage shoves and he has to make a read at that point. Let's be honest I'm sure the thought I can only beat QQ never went through rampages mind.

Absolutely love Rampage and have been following his journey for a long time. He's managed to become a winning tournament player and his youtube income means that he can absorb a few of these heavy losses. I think against Garrett - in particular - he's probably a bit out of his depth. That guy is an absolute machine at the moment! Great video though, thanks for sharing.

That first hand isn’t a punt. He actually plays it as well as can be considering everything. AK vs AA with a king high flop. He checks is all three streets and loses the minimum. I don’t think even a world class player doesn’t lose the same amount there.
@Joel-js2gk
@Joel-js2gk 2 года назад
First hand I think anyone who's played the game for any reasonable amount of time knows it was anything but a punt, in fact he lost pretty much the least he possibly could've, I think folding at any point in that hand would've been a cardinal sin. The second hand, I actually really like the way he played it, up until the river. I agree with his logic that he has to bluff with his specific hand but when you think about Garrett's range, it's going to be mostly straights, some boats, and some busted draws. The straights/boats are never folding and the busted draws aren't calling so I'd rather bet smaller. That being said, I've never played in a game close to that size, nevermind on stream, so I can understand that in the moment, being in the situation playing with your own money, you can get nervous and stressed and feel like "I really want this bluff to get through" so you bet more than you ordinarily would/should. I'm not a pro myself so am definitely open to the possibility that my logic is flawed but I think rampage could've saved $25k or so on the last hand by betting smaller on the river.

@@HotobuFirst off, he has a massive range advantage on the flop. So when he was checked to he put out a bet. You shouldn’t always do this but I don’t think it’s the worst play either. On the turn when picks up his flush draw and continues which is very standard. On the river he has 5 high and bluffs, also very standard. But most importantly he has a huge range advantage. Here’s a question, what does Garrett do with Aces in this spot?
@matthewcrissy4641
@matthewcrissy4641 2 года назад
@@Hotobu The flop smashes a open/call 3bet range and not so much for the 3bettor. It’s almost like Garrett knew that this range would smash Rampage’s. Hence the reason that he checked lol. Very good play by Garrett because he knows Rampage can get a little spewey and could try to rep this range as well.

Ok... let's be clear. this was epic bad... his play this past week will haunt him, as it doesnt scale against world class players. I feel like there is too much that Rampage doesn't tell us about his money. Even with that WSOP event win, he shouldn't have nearly enough money for this game. One losing session could bankrupt him unless he has some sort of trust fund or backers. I kind of hope that's the case because I'd hate to see him throw a decent career away for a small moment of fame.
