How much of a difference do RamRods Tungsten Dampening Riser Weights make? Do the Hoyt 360 Degree Riser dampers make any difference? I use accelerometers to measure how much of a difference the Hoyt Riser Dampers make and see if the RamRods Tungsten Dampened Riser Weights work any better.

As a mechanical engineer and data nerd with a background in machine design and vibration spectral analysis.... This is a collision of worlds that I am so happy to see. I love it. A large part of the peak dampening is likely coming from the additional mass of the ramrod piece. There are 2 ways to effect a system to reduce vibration, mass and stiffness. Neither of these are doing anything for stiffness, but the mass is adding inertia and that is helping absorb the low frequency energy. It's still a great experiment to show how these things affect the system, but more of a proof that more mass = better damping. What would be REALLY interesting is a 3oz stainless or brass weight in the same place as the Ramrod tungsten powder one. THAT's would be apples to apples to determine if the tungsten is worth it, or if it's really just the mass doing the work.

I'm kidnapping this video's comment section just to express my greatest appreciation and gratitude to you Jake. As a new archer as of january this year, your channel has been the greatest resource of information in every single way for me. Archery is big, but not huge, in Sweden and you simply rely on club members and internet for information. My club is fantastic but I'm the odd fellow shooting barebow amongst longbows and trads. For barebow specific information I would have gotten no where without your archive of videos. Your level of detail, thouroughness and knowledge is just mindblowing, and not to say the least inspiring! Thanks again Jake!

Thanks for the informative video Jake, always nice to see the graphs and such, I like to geek out on data as well xD I have a quick question. My wife and I recently got ATF-DX risers from Win&Win, and we noticed that the risers also have pockets in the limb socket, is it possible to add dampeners there or is it just a way of reducing the riser mass to make it lighter?

My ATF-X has this pocket as well. It's likely originally just a way to reduce the riser mass in manufacturing. But if a weight fits in there..... why not use the space.

Very informative video! Ill have to test them out myself whenever my GMX 3 comes in! I wasn't gonna try out the ramrods, but with this info I feel i should give it a try. Question for yea: Are you gonna test with the 1 ounce weight as well to see if its has more of a difference than the 360 dampener and compare to the 3 oz weight? Also I am having issues with the collab links. They say the site cannot be reached.

The 3oz weight is filled with powdered tungsten so it acts as a vibration dampener, the mass does dampen some but compared to a solid weight these dampen much more. Can you tell me which links don't work? When I copy and paste them, they work for me.

@@JakeKaminskiArchery Gotcha! I was curious if the 1 oz might still be an upgrade when compared to that 360 dampener. So that way you can get All the collab links don't work for me. The only one that does work for me is the one leading to RamRods

Personally yes, I like to see the data. How things "feel" can be very subjective so it's always good to have the numbers to back it up. How many others feel the same though I have no idea, I know it involves a lot of work at your end to get the data so I don't mind if you take the view that the extra time involved isn't worth it compared to the number of people that would find it useful.

What do you think about the 1 oz weights? Will the vibration reduction be close to the 3 oz ones?I think that 6 more oz on the riser seems a bit much for a recurve...

Results may vary. Should have tested without that brass weight on riser. Perhaps that’s why bottom versus top Trace was different.

It's unlikely the bottom and top trace would ever be the same solely based on geometry of the riser and tiller of the bow. Because of limb tiller and string crawl, the timing and intensity of inputs is basically impossible to get exactly the same. The brass weight is just adding overall mass to the system and is not changing the stiffness of the riser, so if anything it is helping overall dampening of the system but not really changing much else.

Hi Jake, thank you so much🙏 as a young engineer from germany I’m a data nerd too. Actually I’m developing a 360 dampener for the older Xceed riser with the goal of half of the mass but with similar results. So your measurement comparison would be exactly the same what I have to do with my damper and the original Hoyt weight for Xceed. Could you tell me what was the name of the measurement device that you used for checking the vibration or could you give me the contact from the gentleman in Austria?

I shoot xceed riser after I switched from carbon riser. The only thing I don't like about the xceed is the vibration is more than the old nanomax riser I used to shoot. So I bought these RamRods tungsten dampened riser weights. The riser feels better but it is much heavier than before. I need to practice more and adjust my stablizer setup in order have a good control of the bow. I think RamRods has 1oz version of it but I have got used to the 3oz one already. I am still curious to know the different in dampening effect between 1oz and 3oz version of this weight.

I'm confident the 3 will dampen more but by how much I am not sure... I'll have to try that when I return to Austria or get my own analysis gear.
