Imagination sometimes brought to light the worst aspects of humanity; the worst actions, the worst thoughts, the worst traits. While in the real world, such evil is often ignored or repulsed from our everyday thoughts, in fiction, it could force an audience to reflect on such a grotesque nature by manifesting in a specific person or thing. In A Song of Ice and Fire, that man was Ramsay Bolton. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Exploring Fiction. Born from absolutely contemptible circumstances, Ramsay seemed doomed from the start, and indeed, he grew into a man who seemingly possessed no redeemable characteristics. Giddy at the art of torture and feeding off the negative emotions around him, Ramsay grew unhinged and depraved. He put his quick wits to use, and eventually rose so high as to become a legitimized son of the Dreadfort, but his nature never changed. One would be hard-pressed to find a sicker man in the Seven Kingdoms than Ramsay. So, who exactly is Ramsay Bolton, and why is he such an interesting character? Let’s explore…

The Seven Hells cursed The North the day Ramsay was born. Roose was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but Ramsay was the demon from his lorins

I hate it when a demon springs from my lorins

Tbh there are times I was rooting for Ramsay, just because of Iwan Rheon’s portrayal of him.

I mean he was good with animals, welcomed his new step mother with open arms, was loyal to good King Joffrey, really missed and never blamed his best friend Reek when he ran away with his wife. Also, made sure the realm knew his father was murdered by his enemies.

Say what you will about Roose Bolton the man’s a truebred romantic… lmao 😂 But I may be in the minority here but I absolutely loved Ramsay’s character in GoT (mainly bc of Iwan Rheons charisma & mannerisms) & he was one of the highlights of the show. He came in out of nowhere (if you’re not a book reader) & literally took the “crown” of most sadistic bastard (literally) in the entire series from Joffrey. And I love how they almost humanized him in season 6 when he kills Roose, & then Walda & the baby. His face after he stabs Roose shows how shocked he was that he actually did that bc he always looked up to his father & idolized him. I wonder if that will happen in the books. And his face when Walda & the baby are being mauled by his dogs, he looks utterly sickened by his own actions & he even looks away. He took no pleasure in doing either of those things but in his mind he had no choice. He was so awesome & hilariously evil but he never felt over the top. He absolutely nailed that role to a tee. And the scene where he kills Roose is one of my favorite scenes from Season 6 bc it was just so layered & actually showed that Ramsey may be an evil, sadist but he’s got at least a sliver of humanity in him & it may not be entirely his fault (though most of it was)

How is murdering his family, including his hours-old brother, humanizing?

The actor did a brilliant job of "show, don't say".

Haha it's just to keep it consistent. TheMico (the artist) has drawn almost every character, so it just lines up nice.

@@ExploringFiction I understand. I just loathe that art style and it seems to be prevalent in the fantasy genre so I had to rant a little lol.

You make a good point. So many of the Dany fans romanticize Dany and Drogo yet the never comment on his lovely speech about raping women, killing men and enslaving children when he helps Dany take the Throne of Westeros………. You know all bc she felt entitled to it despite her family losing the Throne (bc of her brother and father) by right of Robert’s Conquest. Never do you hear about Drogo being villainized

@@antihmota4625 khal Drogo had thousands of slaves was responsible for how many rapes? Led 100, 000 dothraki and was the most feared khal of a savage people Euron would sacrifice his own children has raped his siblings and killed them. @@jordanford9320 ok, so then Tywin Lannister had thousands of soldiers and was responsible for how many deaths and rapes? Dont you try to fucking blame me into not reading books when you clearly havent, or you should spend hours reading ASOIAF wiki pages. Euron never sacrificed his children and he never molested his brothers. Read books...
