if only twitch managed clips better, like not posting clips that weren't supposed to be posted, having a rating system, having pages to make browsing easier, and never mind the duration limit it's like why do they even bother having the clip functionality if they aren't going to make it usable
Not gonna lie, Jon is hilarious, but watching all his funny moments in just one take is absolutely awesome. I'm crying even if I already saw all this jokes. XD
Test-Driven Development. Basically you write the tests first before you write the software. In other words, putting the cart before the horse because can't be arsed to plan out what you want to do on paper.
@@OmegaF77 Yeah I've had experience with OOP since then in a company, but TDD just seems like pure madness. No wonder Jon rants so much about that type of thing - I can't imagine getting things done when so much gets in the way of just writing the damn code.
I think it would go something like "Modern text editors are slow, and when working with large amounts of code, their slowness explodes. If the text editor is able to speed you up, then you must be going slow. And if you are slow, that's bad." But there may be more to it than that. I've never actually heard him go fully into it.
@@Elrog3 @Michal Pietraszko It's also about letting autocomplete do the work of understanding how the program and code is structured. You can literally see people on RU-vid "tutorials" freeze up and have no idea what to do when a bug in their IDE causes their autocomplete to not find the correct function. Basically the idea is that autocomplete is fine if you know what you want to write *before autocomplete engages*. But if you are relying on autocomplete without even knowing what you're looking for, it's a strong sign that you have no idea what your program is doing, or how it is structured, and at that point it's very likely that you don't even know or understand what your problem is all about.
18:42 is there any clip of Jon elaborating on why autocompletion makes you a worse programmer? (not ai powered but just normal IDE/lsp autocomplete) I'm interested in what his reasoning would be.
I love when people clip 10 seconds out of a video like this and go "See! Jonathan Blow is mean! 🥺" I think 90% of the hate for Blow comes from people consuming out of context nonsense about him.
Only someone like Jon Blow could think that the reason people read romance manga is to "learn about romance" and at the same time be utterly convinced that there's nothing to learn about romance from them
