Namaste
I needed to replace the sticking pad on my Random Orbit Sander as the old one would no longer hold sanding disks. It is difficult for me to find these parts locally and they are expensive when I do. I did manage to find one, but I saw the opportunity to experiment with a cheap pad that is designed for using with an angle grinder and only cost 2 Euros. I figured I could salvage parts from the old component and come up with a DIY option. I am happy with the end result and it was not too difficult to make.
If you have any questions, leave a comment below and I will try to answer them.
I like the idea of DIY and making my own Tools, especially if it is a Tool that is not easily found or readily available. Handmade Tools give great satisfaction and for me it is fun knowing that I created something to help me better improve my woodworking experience.

Very timely finding this video. I have two ROS. But one was put away because the pad had disintegrated. I just rediscovered it and now you've shown me how I can fix it. Thanks!

Ah, that's very satisfying when you can make something work for you. Good job Chris. I think my favourite part there was the drilling experiment - I'd have blundered ahead without thinking and made a real mess, so it's very useful to be reminded to take time and consider. Thanks mate, I enjoyed that.

Thank you Mark 😊 Finding the replacement part was really hard and it needed replacing a long time ago. I'm happy this worked out and it works so well that I ran out of grit before the paper flew across the workshop. Something I'm not used to 😁 It's done that ever since I bought it and maybe it was defective to begin with. Although I paid the full price for an original replacement, I didn't trust it would be any better than the first one and thus the reason to experiment. Blessings from us all here 😊 ॐ

Oh now that is a nifty (and timely) hack! I am surprised my hook'n'loop held up as long as it did during testing. I might need to have a go at this soon 😁

Thank you James 😊 Mine had been throwing papers off from almost the time I bought it and now it's a pleasure to work with. I wish I would have thought of this a lot earlier instead of dreading having to use the sander 😁 ॐ

Hi Yogi, That is fantastic and works really well. I have just bought my first Orbital Sander so won't need to do this for a while, hopefully. But when the time comes I know I will be able to replace the pad. Take care Chris. Cheers, Huw
