God Bless this departed soul. Randy should have been the biggest Rock Star in the world. Jimi Hendrix would put HIS guitar down if Randy picked up his and started playing. True story. Randy was light years ahead of everybody else. Gone too soon. Listen to the original version of "I've Got A Line On You". Listen to Randy's picking style an his use of effects, etc. Who influenced who? He was an original and innovator. Jimi Hendrix used to tell everybody about Randy California. They were good friends and had mutual respect. If Randy only knew how many many guitarists looked up to him in awe and inspiration.
Everytime i see another clip from this genius i am mesmerized by his gift. Other than Line on you i was quite unfamiliar w his work. Nearly 66 now and will spend the rest of my days marveling his music. Better late than never eh? ( ;; Have always known the name, now I will know his gift to us. RIP Hero.
my pops was there following this band nearly from their very beginning and I remember he ALWAYS made sure to put on some Randy any chance he could, like whenever he cooked breakfast and especially when we drove us anywhere! hahah me and my sis grew up hearing Randy and the band tearin it up, whether my dad had popped in their cassette or he was watchin one of the dozen tapes he had of them live; my whole family loved Spirit and I'm so grateful for my dad being such a devoted fan (he wouldn't ever miss ANY of the shows they did in Florida, sometimes ending up chattin with Randy for hours afterward), if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have known about one of THE greatest rock bands ever! my pop was actually en route to what would end up being Randy's final, last ever show (before he passed away while saving his drowning son) but had to turn around and return home due to a familial issue. papa is quite old now, in hospice, yet he STILL to this day fires up his bluetooth speakers and puts on some Randy California at least once a week and man... it **always** fills the room with such love & joy!!!☆☆ sorry for 'blogging' all this jibber-jab, honestly I just wanted to say how stunningly amazing (yet woefully underrated) and important Spirit was and still IS; not just to my goofy lil fam but to the story, soul, and very essence of rock & roll itself!! ▪︎♡♡ we love you, Randy... and you too, "Mr. Skin"!! ♡♡▪︎
@@alainclement9244 so life never stops? Every death starts the process of reincarnation? That means that every new born has lived before? Simple questions: why do mankind make the same mistakes every once in a while? Why does the population increase? Good luck finding some answers ...
@@alainclement9244 it occurred to me once that if we finally manage to destroy the planet you'd have no way to be reincarnated. Jesus solution is that His sacrifice gets us back to our loving God.
@@joe22589 Sorry....no reincarnation. Don't fall for that stuff. The Bible tells us that "it is allotted to man to live BUT ONCE". You gotta make THIS go-round count. Pick which team you're gonna play for.
Right on, Juan! Ain't that the darn truth!! Randy was absolutely outta sight and always killer in anything he did... not to mention having such a truly good and loving soul to boot!! ♡♡♡ Randy is the man!!
I remember watching this in the UK when broadcast in 1988. Lots of supreme talent on show that night. Leslie West's performance stands out to this day.
Well said bannork, his music is so uplifting and he gave Hey Joe his own unique touch. Randy was such a tasteful yet powerful player, he put Spirit, body and soul into it, a real keeper of the flame.
From Australia, I read he stood in for Ritchie Blackmore in the early 70s for one night as Deep Purple's lead guitarist when Ritchie took sick , and did a great job and that would not have been easy , Peace from down under.
wow - i am a massive Hendrix fan. i never seen Randy before. Now that is how you do a cover song. Incredible stuff - 1978. Its like a mix of Hey Joe, Bold As Love and of course Randy's personal style. Even changes the lyrics. Beautiful stuff.
Sorry, I meant the previous song in the previous video. But Hendrix didn’t write Hey Joe either. It’s an old song recorded by several different people before and after Hendrix version. Hendrix did improve it drastically. I love Randy California, but Hendrix was not my fav - way too much air play and commercialization. I saw him in concert. He got mad at the audience and smashed up his guitar, then stormed off the stage. Not my favorite concert.
Hi Guys, if you want to see more ; „Rockpakst“ Grugahalle Germany Essen 1974 or later. Completely Concert of him. I been there, i habe living near from Grugahalle.
Guess he should know how to bust this song as he was part of Jimi's band at only the age of fifteen. He was stunning and I wonder how much it would changed the Experience had his parents allowed him to go to England with Hendrix.
Have watched this now about twenty times or more. It means so much more now that I know "the rest of the story" about Randy California. They were my favorite band in 1968 outside of the Experience but I never knew the connection between Randy and Jimi.
On "Night Of The Guitar" it was Jimi's birthday and he played this song in dedication. Randy said that when he was 15 he went to New York where he met Jimi and that Jimi taught him to play "Hey Joe".
@@charlesbireland1780 He made this rendition his own and more fantastic by his amazing ability and improvisation. Jimi wanted Randy to tour with him to the UK with the Experience. However at 15 he was too young despite his prodigious talent. RIP Randy, one of the greats. Life cruelly cut short saving his son from drowning.
Ha. I have been listening to Spirit of 76 on vinyl tonight. If you dont own that album, go and get it. Its lush. Nice to see him play it live on stage :0
My god , BONE CHILLING ! Putting this in my "British Invasion" Deprogramming kit . I'll A;ways be down with my AMERICAN Brothers and Sisters , who created Rock and Roll , Excelled at Rock and Roll , got Ripped off by Rock and Roll , got marginalized by Rock and Roll .
It is so sad that the best go first. This beats everyone. The only one who had any " ready willing and able" spec to continue where Jimi went. I'm 62 and I miss good music. There is nothing today but Gov't Mule! Greetings From Finland.
He was lost at Papohaku Beach on Molokai, Hawaii. It is known as being dangerous for swimming because of the strong currents. People had formed a human chain in the water to try to save him, but they lost their grip on him. I got there just after they lost their hold of him. Members of the fire department went in later searching for him, but his body was not found.
Can anyone tell me the name of an album from spirit called ?????? Dreams. Used to trip out to these guys early 80s when was younger n getting wrecked. Couple of tracks of that album that had some great trippy hallucination s to
