In this Range Report I am given the opportunity to shoot and review what some people think is a "Holy Grail" gun. This firearm is a Mateba Model 6 Unica Autorevolver chambered in .357 Magnum. This gun blends a revolver with the action of a semi-automatic pistol to create a unique and one of a kind gun. These were made for only a few years and are now considered to be very rare here in the U.S.. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this unique firearm. Yours may vary.

Back in the day. I came across a good deal on a Ford SHO. My track buddy had a 5.0 mustang new. Same year. I outrun him like he was broken on the track every time. The brakes and suspension were clearly better than the mustang, even though they were the same straight line performance. I thought the SHO was ugly, but I came around to actually like how it looked. I have only ever had one firearm that I did not get the single action trigger pull down below 4 lb. I have never liked heavy single action Kohl's. However in the early eighties after 2 Chainz shooting for about 14 years I stopped shooting double action revolvers in single action. I learned how to shoot my 4 inch Ruger Security Six at 100 yd and shoot a 4-inch group using double action. It's not that difficult to do. In the 1989 and later, I started teaching a lot of police officers how to transition into semi-autos. I did not change my primary carry gun until 2007 except for one job that I was doing that I needed a very slender firearm and carried a PPKs 380 on that specific job

"fail points of a semi-auto" The "semi-auto" part really only does one thing: cock the hammer. The reciprocating action isn't required to feed the next cartridge into the chamber (or in this case, advance the cylinder). That's done via the hammer which can still be actuated with the double action trigger.

The 1895 Webly Fosbery auto revolver was a novelty, 129 years later this is the best we can do?.. going to take a lot of advertising to make this fly.

There is a screw right below the rear sight would be in front of the hammer. Wouldn't that be the rear sight elevation?
@thetexasgunvault
@thetexasgunvault Месяц назад
You are right. I released that when I reviewed the 44 Mag version. I originally thought this screw just held on the front sight.

How does it index? What does the ejector look like?

What do you want to know about the indexing? It appears solid and does not move at all when locked up.
@norrisfong6445
@norrisfong6445 Месяц назад
@@thetexasgunvault thanks for asking but I watched a forgotten weapons video that explained that there is a pin in the breech face that indexes into the rear of the cylinder instead of a notch on the outside of the cylinder. I also saw the ejector rod on an open cylinder in that video.

Due to the high DA trigger pull, can it be safely carried cocked and locked like a 1911?
@robtheknob7791
@robtheknob7791 Месяц назад
It wouldn’t be double action if it’s already cocked.
@thetexasgunvault
@thetexasgunvault Месяц назад
It does not have a safety, so with the hammer down it is like any other DA revolver.

Awesome Italian pistol, always wanted one, based on the Webley-Fosbery and auto revolver that found some use in WWI by early pilots and gunners for being able to fire easily and the fact that the brass was retained so it wouldn’t bounce around the cockpit and get caught up in the works. What did they use before this? Bricks…

I don't know if this is true but I've no reason not to believe it is.A gun shop I frequent's owner told me he bought a bunch of these when they came out.They were pretty expensive and he couldn't sell them, so he was "letting them go for $1000. He said if you could find one today for five times that,you'd be doing very well.I had never heard of a auto revolver before.

I want to see if, like a pistol - pressing the "slide" while cocked can easily block the trigger. I will still love the gun if so - I still love many pistols, just interested if it has that similar flaw.
