This episode reminded me again that i do watch fully charged not only for its news-value, but sometimes rather for the sheer comedy of it. Thanks Robert and Team for a wonderful video, great cinematography and a very fitting musical track and a quite unique car review. I really did enjoy that very much.
Yes, I chuckled all the way through. I've had lots of RR and live in the deep countryside, and grow lots of trees, so have the excuse. Its best to have an older one so that its not a huge shame to scratch the paintwork on brambles, but always the problem is the fuel consumption. Because the car is utterly supreme at all the rest: comfort, space, towing capacity and utter charm, you can forgive it, mostly, but all the same it would be far nicer to have all that and not have to buy the cake to feed it. RR, with the hybrid, are going in the right direction and I really, really look forward to seeing the fully battery-electric versions when they arrive. Four motors, one for each wheel is going to give fabulous off-road capability after all.

Like it or not, these "transitional" vehicles will be around for a long time, pure electric vehicles just aren't capable enough to suit everyone's needs.
But only part of the time. I know plenty of people who use their truck/suv as their daily driver, but the whole reason that they bought it was because they want to be able to tow their boat to a lake that's 150 miles away, or their RV trailer (caravan in the UK?) halfway across the country, or their motorcycles to a stunt show on the other side of the country (1,000 miles away). BEVs just don't have those capabilities yet.
There's certainly a plus side to having a hybrid over a standard petrol. You still get the regen braking, which on a car that size would greatly benefit the brake service costs.
And all of that is irrelevant. If you are in the market for a Range Rover, or other larger off roader, this is a tremendous step in the right direction. Mocking it hurts everything about the EV craze. Do you believe if this does well, they won't go further down the EV rabbit hole? Personally, I would rather drive a RR hybrid with all the toys and trinkets, the comfort and "status" over a Model 3. I think everyone shouting that this is not a "fully charged" vehicle, and "it's just 13 miles on charge" needs to embrace the direction, and ask for more.

@@fdmjiv those cars are totally different and I'm not even sure about the fuel consumption on the rover when the batteries are empty we need to test that how is 3l/100 when you're travelling on highway with that massive car!!!!!!
Those oversized tablets in the back need to be integrated into the seats. Better still they need to be an ordinary tablets that plug into recepticles, then you could use any tablet.
Miroslav Milan - The US tax credit is by manufacture selling 200k and then it drops off, Tesla has hit this number already in the US. not sure about Chevy.
Speaking as the owner of an EV, whose wife drives a PHEV, I find it predictably human and predictably depressing that the EV world has become fundamentalist in too many cases. As far as I am concerned, any electric miles are good miles, and many people cannot go full EV for any number of reasons, real or imagined. Yes, the battery is pretty feeble, but it's a stepping stone car. If nothing else, the PHEV has converted my wife to auto gearboxes, she loves the idea of using no fuel to pick up the kids from school and also the fact that her commute to work costs her a lot less than the previous car (Seat Leon), and if something with a decent range, decent boot and preferably an SUV at a decent price turns up (no Model X for us) I reckon I can persuade her to go full EV when we come to hand it back in a few years time (Kona's too small, folks).

Hybrid sales are already on the decline while EV sales are accelerating rapidly. When will manufacturers of fossil cars get a clue? Absolutely beautiful video BTW; nice music too. As others have noted, the chemistry with Alex was great. Robert is funny as usual. Can't help it, I assume. ;)
Very nice episode. I am really pleased with the opinion of yet another person who has not been driving a luxury off road vehicle as a regular. Although we mostly think of EVs as really light economy models its still good to see just how possible it is now to be discretely quiet for those short commutes and chores that we are normally doing daily, without polluting. It does make a difference.

I think plug-in-hybrids are a great way to drastically reduce oil use. The problem of not having a fast charger network everywhere is a non issue since you can use petrol when needed.
The hardest consumer groups to convince are those who have to lug trailers. Horse boxes, car trailers and particularly caravans are more stable when towed by a heavy vehicle which along with lots of torque which gives EVs an advantage but usually means a diesel SUV for buyers . Is there any chance of an episode focusing on towing with EVs and hybrids and highlighting what manufacturers are planning moving forward.

Range Rovers used to be extremely utilitarian, no fripperies like leather seats and plush interior. They had to work in mud rain and cow poo all day, now they are mostly driven by idiots in the cities who think off roading is driving up a kerb. B1 looks cool, a tool to do a job and nothing more.

The platform isn't designed for it. The next generation will go fully electric, but we won't see it until 2020. Also, please don't get too excited about this hybrid. It still faces the same issues all heavy vehicles with small petrol engine/hybrid engines do - they don't work according to specs as they are just too small. I owned an L405 RR V8 S/C 510hp, which averaged 16.8 l/100km during my two years of ownership. Last year I rented the Volvo XC90 D5, 235hp for a month and averaged 11.5 l/100km. The engine is less than half the size in power and displacement, yet the fuel consumption is far greater than half of the RR. The RR will be an epic vehicle when it’s fully electric. Pretty much unbeatable. And yes, the Jaguar is pretty cool. Just too small. :)
@@andreas.abrahamsson Agree. Drove the IPACE recently. The salesman, after a chat, agreed that the PHEVs are useless for going any distance, and the IPACE isn't really an SUV. He said I should run a diesel Discovery 4 for a few years and then go full EV. I agree.
That explains the Range Rover that I saw at Tebay the other month in an Ecotricity bay. Was about complain then realised it was plugged in! (But still hogging a rapid charger!!). JLR could do better in my opinion but.
Probably was filmed back when "the Beast from the East" struck the UK earlier this year. Siberian winds making their way Britain-ward. I had an outdoor water pipe that ended up with a column of ice coming out of it - that was fun, smashing the ice and then running hot water from the kettle down the pipe to melt it all away. Yes, it's been a very weird year for weather extremes in the UK. Start of the year was ridiculously cold weather and now we're just coming to the end of weeks and weeks of a heatwave.

It made me laugh to hear how emphatic he said it was a "Freezing day outside!" To me , here in Canada that looked like something of a average day we would have in early April or late September! I remember visiting family in Manchester over Christmas one year and everyone was wearing down-filled everything and wrapped up like they were on an arctic expedition to go for a walkabout. Me and my brothers thought it was wild how balmy England's winters are. It's all relative to what you are used to I guess.
Sorry Robert, we still have no idea what's inside this machine. Is it a series hybrid? Or parallel? Does it have gears? Or a power split device like in the Toyotas? Why don't you tell us these things?
At my local shopping center they have 4 chargers and us leaf owners are always looking for a spot to plug in but the same Chevy Volts are always plugged in all day long.
If you think USA roads are lumpy, come to Canada. Esp Winnipeg which is built on a prehistoric Marsh. Our winters warp the roads and wear out painted lines every year.

I used to own the 3 litre v6 Range Rover sport now i own an I3. The range sport was a great car. Can’t wait until the completely electrify it. It makes so much sense to Electrify these huge cars as the have plenty of space and weight isn’t an issue as there not performance motors
$100k - that would buy me a fleet of 20 used Leafs. Seems like all the manufactures are just focusing on the high end uber expensive cars and regular folks are getting the shaft!. Here in Colorado we're all waiting for an affordable PHEV SUV that has a 100 mile electric range, 2020 we hope :)
John Donaldson 30 miles in London is more than enough for Chelsea tractors. If you can charge up outside the restaurant why would you need more? Most of these never see any mud in their lives in London.
SDD525 We were getting low 40 mile EV range in the California winter. Summer, many days over 100 degrees provides closer to 50 EV miles. In the winter we often relied on the heated seats rather than cabin heat. In the summer we run the AC all the time. We have a Honda Clarity PHEV.
