is the Max G2 the best all around scooter for someone new?
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 6 месяцев назад
It’s definitely a solid choice but ultimately depends on what you’re looking for. If you have lots of super steep hills, I’d go with something that has two motors. For flat terrain as well as light to moderate hills, it does great. It’s also very comfortable to ride and gets great range. Also, the app experience is spot on and allows you to customize many aspects of the ride.

Yeah but it's no fun. Once you drive a Wolf King GT there's nothing else you ever want to ride

Haha! That’s definitely a sick scooter. I saw someone on a Wolf King GTR a while back. They looked unusually happy lol. The ground clearance on those things is crazy. Dude looked 10 feet tall on his 🤣

What would you recommend for someone who weighs 220 lbs, needs a commuter for a 10-mile round trip, wants to cruise around on their days off, and requires portability for taking public transportation?
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 6 месяцев назад
So the Apollo Go would be better suited for what you mentioned above. It’s lighter than the G2 and is also very zippy. I just got back from a quick grocery store run on the Go and it may be my new favorite scooter. Another alternative is something like the NIU KQI Air, but it’s not as quick and doesn’t have the hill climb ability of the Go. It does have a major weight advantage, coming in at ~26lbs.
@Shirehi
@Shirehi 4 месяца назад
Be aware that the performance of the go becomes almost entirely unsatisfactory after about 200lbs rider weight. You will barely squeeze 10 miles out of it and won't be able to acess the famed "28mph" top speed at any point. Once you hit 80% battery after about 3 miles you will see a drastic BMS nerf and will struggle to hit 18mph. If I were you I'd opt for the Apollo City Pro to avoid falling for "sticker promise" disappointment! I'm 6'5 260lbs and have found most scooters that have a 265lb weight limit to be less than advertised in many ways for this reason.
@victorocks89

I haven't bought anything. I ended up with a new schedule that no longer requires a scooter. Thanks for the heads up though.

@@Shirehi Sources? Because I have a Go as my main scooter, weigh 210lbs and carry about 10 pounds in my bag and just took an 11 mile trip today, went from 94% to 32% in the South Florida sun (makes the parts get a bit hotter). Was still able to go 25 mph on flat ground at 38%-32% (as shown in the app, real speed was probably 23ish mph) and I hit the 28 mph speed on any ride where my battery is above 60%-70% (again that is shown on the app, seems like there is a 2mph difference from shown).

Excellent video Tom, man, that is some impressive results. The segway may have gotten a couple more miles vs. the Apollo GO, but wow, both scooters seem to be a great choice. Im definitely considering getting the Go for my son. Watching you ride your MAX G2 made me miss riding my MAX G2. I still haven't been able to get Segway to sell me a new handlebar, lol! I even talked to segway los angeles and they are trying to get segway corporate to send them handlebars, kick stands and even batteries for the MAX G2 but they havent been able to get any replacement parts for it yet but they have been nice to keep me updated. Very good video, man. Thumbs up! 😎👊
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 6 месяцев назад
Thanks, Louie! Sucks that you still can’t get a handlebar. I mean, they are still producing the Max G2, so that may mean they are prioritizing new orders over parts. All those new scooters need handlebars lol. Parts availability seems to be a common issue in the industry. I know these are technically consumer products and not vehicles per se, but people literally use these things for commuting and running errands. Hopefully something changes soon because parts are an absolute must. Have you checked Alibaba or Ali Express?
@THEAVERAGEGUY1983
@THEAVERAGEGUY1983 6 месяцев назад
@tomsgadgetgarage yep, they have plenty of parts for the G30 but they dont fit the MAX G2 otherwise i would definitely buy it asap at Aliexpress. I found the turn signals there and they are sold in pairs. I figured that's what is going on with segway and yeah i agree. I just gotta continue to be patient as the scooter isnt even a year old yet from its official release date so thankfully i do have the RS and the GT1 which it is definitely a very good High quality scooter. Even better built than my RS. Im so interested in their ST2 pro because its 90Lbs vs the GT2 at 120Lbs.

@THEAVERAGEGUY1983 yah the ST series looks awesome. Maybe they will have them at that Rider Fest event this year. If they do have the event again I’m definitely going to have to go, especially after seeing your videos covering all those high end scooters haha.

@THEAVERAGEGUY1983 6 месяцев назад
@tomsgadgetgarage yeah, that event is what helped me get more viewers i was even the first person on youtube to put a video on the Gotrax GX3, even rider guide doesnt have a video on that one. Too bad i never got a response from them to do a partnership program but maybe this year they will. That GX3 from them was a Top end super comfortable scooter. I would buy one but the wife said (Stop It) lol 😅 im surprise she's letting me get my son the Apollo Go.

The Segway updates have been a hit or miss but they have improved the experience for the better over the long run. At launch, scooters were overheating, ghost braking, plus some other issues. Those have pretty much all been resolved. They also released a new firmware update which unleashes more power.

I'm local. Are there any places in the area that rent electric scooters? I'm looking at buying my first scooter, but would want to test ride one before I made the purchase. I have it narrowed down to the Apollo Go and the Apollo City 2023. Thanks for the videos!
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 6 месяцев назад
You know, I too was interested in the City 2023 and also looked to see if there were places in the Phoenix metro that rent these things out or allow test rides. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anything like it. I know there are places in other major metros that have shops that let you test ride, but apparently nothing around here :(. I know Voro Motors in the LA area allows you to book test rides on the scooters they carry, same with Lectric E-Bikes in N. Phoenix. Best Buy carries Segway, NIU, and I believe Apollo as well. They just need to start offering test rides and they’d solve lots of problems and likely drum up more business.

If you have to carry it more than a few steps I'd go with the Go, otherwise get the City Pro

46 pounds vs 65 pounds, faster speed/range for portability. I had same dilemma, but went with the GO since for my wife. Thanks for the reviews who do range tests, ordered the go. Max commmute is 20km (12ish miles), so wife can charge at work. When I biked, I was faster than cars and public transit, and that was only average speed of 22km/h. If I had electric motor going at least 32km/h I would have been estatic. I think the go fits a lot nicer in the trunk, so really what you intend it for. Excited for the Go to Ship.

You may have overinflated it while running in hot weather! Never inflate it to even within 5 psi of recommended pressure because the actual tire pressure tolerance within such conditions is actually 5-10 psi lower! Companies formulate that marketing gimmick so they could make profit off ignorant customers caught off guard who return their products to be refurbished!

Those firmware updates have to be a direct result of their initial overheating problems. Working that single motor too hard!

Oh for sure. And the problem with the firmware updates is that some have drastically changed the riding experience. They address issues but at the same time change the performance of the scooter.

What I'd really like to know is how their suspensions compare with one another. It seems like the G2 has a better one on paper, but I would like to know in real world use whether it's noticeably better than the Go at least for non-offroad use.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 4 месяца назад
The Max G2 has the upper hand when it comes to suspension. It’s more plush and handles bigger bumps in the road better. With that being said, the GO’s suspension is very comfortable for everyday riding on regular roads, sidewalks, and bike paths. It’s only when you hit obstacles that are like 1/2” or more that you can really feel the difference. If I had to ride on cobblestone roads, I’d choose the G2.
