Thank you for taking the time to show the camera's view through the RIACT lenses. You mentioned a "definite uplift...of the orange target pigment" but I don't think that is physically possible because there is no new light source. Is it more correct to say this is a perception caused by increased contrast due to attenuation of the background color spectrum relative to the target color? To that end, because it is a perception, is this why yellow lenses do not work as well for you but may work very well for other individuals? In the previous video you mentioned that you felt the "bright light" lens was not as dark tinted as you expected. Has your opinion changed in that regard? The human eye is fascinating; I'm looking forward to more of your content going forward!
Hi Jeffrey, you’re totally correct, no additional light is being introduced, the effect is purely down to modulating transmission and attenuation for a subjective improvement. This is how “colour blind” glasses like those made by Enchroma work, or don’t work for certain people with different retinal cone cell distribution and function. Fascinating stuff! Ed, I'm getting ready to purchase new shooting glasses for sporting clays. We shoot a lot of black targets and some orange. I'm looking at Pilla’s new Raptor and Rangers' new RIACT lenses. I am unable to try the RIACT lenses without purchasing them. I value your opinion. Which one of these two companies have the best lenses? Thanks for your help. Ranger RIACT
Hello! So the RIACT lenses are “orange speciality” products and you may not need all three, you could perhaps use on or two RIACT and one standard lens to give a good mix. The raptor lenses are good and there are lots to choose from, however you may feel the frame sits too low. As these are both expensive products it’s really worth trying both on before buying. Ed what would your view be of this lens technology for colour vision deficient shooters? I tend to find very little difference between lenses for orange targets, or worse those lenses that boost the red part of the spectrum more just make everything too dark!
