Mate it was really easy end of August...it was my first time doing the CREB. Last trip up there I went the other side and did the Old Coach road (much harder) In August I still had plenty of other travelers telling me it was impassable but I figured I would go see for myself...turned out ok. It would definitely be a challenging track after a sprinkle of rain. 👍🏻

Out of interest, you said you put your tyres down to 30psi. Is that cold or hot and what do you normally have for cold?
@RoundTheFire
@RoundTheFire 3 года назад
@@jfe7101 For everyday use I run at 38PSI cold pressure. For big trips (loaded) i use 40PSI cold pressure. After that on trips I use the running temp as the base line regardless of the terrain. It makes it easier for me to calculate speed doing it this way. I use 40PSI as 100Kph...reduce to 20PSI (half pressure) I be mindful of cornering at speeds of 50Kph (half speed).

Hey Damo, great part 1, love the drone shots. Mate I was there on the 6th August 2016, did about a 10min recon across the river late evening and all looked great for big hit the next day. Track was dusty, hadn't rained for over a week. Overnight we got about 50mm of rain and it was still raining that morning. The track was so slippery, (lucky we got F & R lockers) we gave up after about 15ks, it was just not safe or worth it. Heard via the grape vine 2 days later that a guy we had talked to in the evening lost his 80sers. that day. That track is treacherous when wet!! You were so lucky to have it dry and sunnyish. Can't wait for part 2. Thank you Damo and family.
@RoundTheFire
@RoundTheFire 3 года назад
Exactly right mate, I was up there about the same time in 2017 and didn’t even give it a look at as there had been a recent shower. I can definitely see the potential for the CREB to be a nightmare just judging by how much of the steepest sections of the track are pure clay. Definitely well equipped 4x4s and a bit of common sense (and major winch effort) would be required.

@RoundTheFire

I agree mate, without water from the sky the CREB is a casual run through the rainforest. I can definitely see just judging from the clay base it would definitely be a mission in the wet.

Hi , enjoy the channel looks like a great spot and a good destination enjoy. Just a thought in SA we have to close everything up or else it goes missing but does your gear not get full of dust and end up to spoil everything , i know it would make me mad so would a closed cannopy not be better ie from say RSI, your thoughts.
@RoundTheFire
@RoundTheFire 3 года назад
G'day Mate, The RSI canopy's are a great looking bit of gear and would work really well on the Raptor. I like to keep mine open so i can unbolt everything easily to be a ute "IF" i need to. Everything in the back of my set up does get wet and dirty but I generally don't put anything in there that can't be exposed to the elements. My experience of remote travel is no one messes with another mans gear...I worry the most when i go to big towns or city's as unfortunately there does not seem to be the mutual respect for property someone has worked hard for.

Little bit soft so you do notice a sag at the back when loaded up for big trips or with a trailer on. The Raptor is wider than most 4x4s so the turning circle is slightly wider curve than the regular rangers. Hope this helps mate, I can’t really think of too many more bad things to say about them?? Its looking good so far Have been wondering, Now that your loaded with the kids and other accessories how far have you been getting on the Brown Davis 150L Tank or have you been regular on topping up throughout your traveling and do you know your rough weights with everything on? I am about to have a Brown Davis fitted to mine and waiting on some other fittings and fixtures including the Safari ARMAX Snorkel that is about to be released for the Raptor from late November I may be conducting some of these tracks in my Raptor throughout my Christmas leave period, weather pending and road closures, leaving from Darwin around 11th of December heading up to Bamaga and the Tip via the Carpentaria route to the East then North before heading south through to my folks in NSW on the Central Coast 35 mins from the Watagans National Park. And all in time for Christmas before returning to Darwin by mid January via 4x4 Tracks (don't worry I wont be placing any vids on youtube) last time I was in that area was in 2016 for AACAP (ARMY Aboriginal Community Assistance Program) working on projects at Laura for almost 7 months and getting to visit part of the Daintree, Cooktown and other areas.
@RoundTheFire
@RoundTheFire 3 года назад
Sounds like a bloody good trip mate! Perfect time to be heading that way, definitely be needing a snorkel 👍🏻 I’m an NT boy born and raised only moved over to QLD because of posting with the ARMY...so this Raptor I have here is new, no long range tank in this one (the last one got stolen) for the trip up to the cape I carried an extra 40L of Diesel in Gerry’s but never needed to use them. If you are gonna cross from the NT to QLD via the savanna way I would definitely recommend carrying extra fuel, you may end up just short fueling at Mataranka trying to reach heartbreak.

Thanks Peter we had a great time making this Vid. As a general rule I don't allow anyone in the car to wear a seatbelt when water crossings are involved, i feel its easier to extract the kids (should the worst case scenario occur) otherwise the parts you see filmed on the dirt roads are planned and not done at any type of speed

I imagine its time consuming to stop for camera shots and stuff. Ive seen alot of beautiful places here in the States, Australia has alot also. The lions den, is that place out in the middle of nowhere?
@RoundTheFire
@RoundTheFire 3 года назад
Gday Alex, I would love to do a few trails over in the states the scenery looks amazing. The lions Den isn't too remote of a Pub/Camp ground. Its accessible via 2wd vehicles (the long way around) but its an iconic stopover if you are tackling the North Eastern area of Australia...you could describe it almost as a gateway destination, great navigation checkpoint.
@RoundTheFire
@RoundTheFire 3 года назад
It definitely is a lot of effort to capture all the footage. I’ve basically got to drive everything 3x. Once to see it and think “yes let’s film that, stop set up camera” 2nd time turn around and drive back over. 3rd time to get the shot, pick up camera and head off looking for the next thing to film 🤣
