The Hoenn nostalgia with the anime does affect my judgement on these Pokémon, I agree with Lumi. AG Supremacy! Dusty wanting to put Dusclops in S is understandable, he was a nice boss in the Pinball game. Love your takes here! Soul, you gonna play the original RSE. If not for Wynaut and Azurill, this could've been pre-Unova with 135 new mons!
Love the differing opinions, that’s what makes this game so great, our interpretations and experiences almost always vary. The entire reshiram segment was hilarious. Poochyena & Mightyena are what the new dark dogs wish they were, fearsome & still cute. We should of just got a region poochy instead of those gross abominations in gen 9.
Lumi: "I haven't played a Gen3 game until ORAS" So you haven't played a Gen3 game! Lumi: "but I started with a gen3 game, FRLG" [flips table] For real, ORAS is not a substitute for the Hoenn experience, it is a Hoenn-based vacation for XY. ORAS is a Gen6 game that happens to be set in an alternate version of Hoenn where the Link cable is a literal wormhole for redirecting meteors towards other versions of the Pokemon planet. ORAS is a reimagined take on Hoenn that expands the originals with a very strict rule of ignoring the existence of the definitive version that FIXED MAJOR PLOTPOINTS. It is a remake of the incomplete game. ORAS is what Pokemon Z would be if it got cancelled and turned into a Hoenn remake because people keep posting trumpet memes and throwing money at the screen. Please play Emerald I beg you.
Can we get a math solution to the tier list for when there are wild differences? S=5 A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0 Add your numbers together and divide by 3. Then we will always have the exact number and if it's .5 or higher you round up and if it's lower you round down.
Went back to watch this one. Wasn't disappointed. Gen 3 is like the baseline for a solid gen imo. I don't think it's one of the best, but it's also not one of the worst. When Soul has a take that I 100% agree with & one or both of you disagree it makes for some of the best moments lol.
Ken Sugimori said in an interview that while in gen 2 he was pushed by the company to create more cute and round design in order to sell merchandise, for gen 3 he couldn't have it and this time replied differently to the same pressure: "Screw it, I'm going to take full liberty". The result was, for me, the best gen across-the-board in terms of monster design. I might as well do my own list: Top 3: Milotic, Groudon, Kyogre S: Mudkip, Lotad, Seedot, Skitty, Cacturne, Feebas, Registeel, Jirachi A: Treecko, Grovyle, Sceptile, Swampert, Poochyena, Zigzagoon, Ludicolo, Shiftry, Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir, Shedinja, Sableye, Mawile, Wailmer, Wailord, Cacnea, Claydol, Cradily, Duskull, Dusclops, Regirock, Regice, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, Deoxys B: Torchic, Blaziken, Mightyena, Wurmple, Beautifly, Lombre, Nuzleaf, Swellow, Wingull, Pelipper, Whismur, Aggron, Roselia, Gulpin, Camerupt, Trapinch, Lunatone, Solrock, Crawdaunt, Lileep, Anorith, Armaldo, Shuppet, Banette, Tropius, Relicanth, Huntail, Gorebyss, Metagross, Salamence C: Mightyena, Linoone, Dustox, Taillow, Surskit, Masquerain, Breloom, Slakoth, Vigoroth, Slaking, Nincada, Ninjask, Makuhita, Hariyama, Nosepass, Delcatty, Aron, Plusle, Minun, Swalot, Carvanha, Sharpedo, Numel, Torkoal, Spinda, Flygon, Swablu, Altaria, Barboach, Whiscash, Corphish, Kecleon, Chimecho, Snorunt, Glalie, Spheal, Luvdisc, Bagon, Shelgon, Beldum, Meltang, Baltoy D: Marshtomp, Combusken, Silcoon, Cascoon, Shroomish, Loudred, Exploud, Lairon, Meditite, Medicham, Electrike, Manectric, Volbeat, Illumise, Spoink, Grumpig, Zangoose, Seviper, Vibrava, Castform, Absol, Sealeo, Walrein, Clamperl F: Azurill, Castform (forms), Wynaut
Vigoroth, Wailmer, Tropius, Zangoose, Poochyena, Mightyena, Hariyama, Camerupt, Torkoal, Pelipper, and the Mudkip line are all S - B tier 😅 to me, they're the best designed and the most "Sugimori" out of gen 3.
Lumi, in my opinion, it is much better to go through BotW first, and only then take on TotK. BotW in 2017 received the title of GOTY, and I myself agree with the opinion of many people that BotW by TotK is an alpha. TotK brilliantly expands on many elements from BotW and improves things that didn't quite work in that first part. That doesn't change the fact that BotW is a great game, but the experience is rather sure to be much worse when you play TotK first. It's simply a matter of comparing things that were done much better in TotK.
I actually never realized that was the reason for Sceptile’s high special attack and low attack, but it makes so much sense now… I always thought it should be a physical attacker.
How DARE they not put Swampert in S, it's easily the best starter in Hoenn since none of the gym leaders or Elite 4 are strong against the water/ground type, plus it's really powerful
Here's my Top 12 List for All-Time Fave Gen 3 Pokémon: 1. Salamence Line, Metagross Line and Flygon Line 2. Aggron Line and Sceptile Line 3. Ninjask and Swampert Line 4. Milotic Line 5. Galarian Zigzagoon and Galarian Linoone 6. Blaziken Line and Crawdaunt Line 7. Vigoroth and Breloom Line 8. Exploud Line 9. Sharpedo Line and Altaria Line 10. Duskull Line and Beautifly 11. Armaldo Line and Dustox 12. Shiftry Line, Ludicolo Line and Glalie Line
Plusle and Minun aren't useless! They're actually pretty strong. They have BST inbetween pre-evos and full evos, in the playthrough were extremely hard to remove and hit back pretty strong too.
@@lumiosepostman u were doing the people’s work with sceptile! And the way u levelled the threat of INDUSTRIAL ACTION over treatment of swellow. You got your priorities right that’s for sure haha
Banette, the only Pokémon I’ve decided to tattoo onto my body, is wayyy deserving of a higher rank than C. Y’all are something else. Although a lot of Skyen’s takes are also not it, he rated it S right where it belongs.
Shedinja is second best Hoenn pokemon after Gardevoir. It's so EVIL AND SATANIC! I LOVE IT! It's like an evil spirit breaking out of hell and possessing a shell of Ninjask. SO COOL! Btw, I'm currently in progress if my Sapphire playthrough. I caught a Nincada, called it Pater, than it evolved, and I renamed Ninjask into Filius and Shedinja into Spiritus. That's a reference to a cool song Theatres des Vampires - Dances with Satan: Lucifer, Pape Satan - Pater, Filius, Spiritus - Trinitas, Universi Rex, Imperator des Inferorum Which means something like: Lucifer to us is like holy trinity, is a king of the universe and emperor of hell.
I honestly tried to like Hoenn, but I just can't. Lemme cite my Twitter rant I made after first getting on a boat with the bald dude: "Is it just me, or does Gen 3 Hoenn really feel so... disconnected? I play Sapphire: routes are huge, I don't know where to go, I have 1 badge and already do 10000 errands for various randos. Anyone had this? This is not me being a stoopid Gen Z+ kid, I played RB, C, HGSS, Y, SwSh and S extensively, some Pt, W and competitive Gen 7 in Showdown. I only have this problem in Hoenn. Is it just my bias? So many people with unfamiliar names, they all seem to know me, everything is so random!"
Poochyena is remarkably cute, but that's the only good thing I can say about it. It's weak, it's forgetable, the ultimate no one's favorite pokemon material. Even though I completely agree with Dusty on Poochyena, I actually think that it's Pidgey that is boring and useless. I don't care that it's actually Pidgey to be considered Kanto's regional bird, at least Fearow can do some damage. Pidgeot invests too much BST into Special Attack ending lacking on physical side - precicely where it has both of its STABs. And design-wise Fearow is MUCH BETTER. At least it's not fat to the point it should't fly.
SoulSilverArt is the best of 3. When he started popping up in RuffledRowlit's videos I was super mad and hated the guy, like, who does he think he is posting this much obvious stuff? But later I accepted him as a part of leaks community, and admitted that some of the thoughts he posts aren't just common knowlege. As for those other guys, I've heard something about Lumi. Dusty though... whenever I come across some laughable utter bull***t on Twitter - it's always posted by Dusty😂 The dude says what he wants from the upcoming games like if it already happened, and it drives me crazy!🤬
So what that Slaking scratches his b*tt? It doesn't touch me or my food with those hands. I don't mind it. I don't like it either, to me it's an average D tier design (means I feel totally neutral towards it). BTW, Dusty, for you to easier remembering of Slaking's BST: It's the same as Groudon, Kyogre and Regigigas - 670, 10 less than Mewtwo, Lugia and Ho-Oh.
Gen 3 was amazing, it was a memorable trumpit fever dream, gen 3 for me was peak pokemon because my best friend and alot of my friends had gen 3, my friend got Sappire i got Ruby, we battled alot and his Kyore was so good and would hit the occasional sheer cold.
Unpopular opinion, but I think Treecko in the anime had TOO MUCH character. It's a big part why I kinda hate Treecko despite feeling totally neutral towards its evolutions. Btw, Sceptile > Grovile, I don't get why somebody would think otherwise
Funny how Lumi said Gen 3 was one of the best generation design-wise, cos I couldn't disagree more. I think one of the main problems with Hoenn is ugly pokemon. Colors are neither bright nor unnatural, a some mons look like bad 7 y.o. kid's drawings (Salamance), Gardevoir line is green for some stu pid nonsense reason. It's my favorite Hoenn pokemon, yet it's not even in my top 10 designs despite being a waifu. That's bad, like, really bad
What I kinda like about Blaziken is that it looks like a FREAKIN DEVIL! LIKE JUST CAME UP FROM HELL! And I don't care about its crotch hair, I like everything "18+" related
When it comes to the role of anime in judging the pokemon's design, I usually give the top priority to it. However, with some pokemon I really prefer sprites. Mewtwo, my FOAT, looks awesome in some of the early gens sprites, but it looks trash in the anime and movies. All pokemon should look a little baby-like no matter how fierce they are.
No, Soul, poketubers staring at or showing us some arts, especially fan arts, is the worst kind of pokemon content. Worse than you 3 watching pokemon official arts without talking much would be third worse to "my pokemon region" and "gen 10 new pokemon and evolutions prediction"
As someone who was not really the biggest fan of Gen 3 when it released - this is going to be good. I also think its funny that only Dusty play gen 3 😂
This episode is hilarious! I (dusty) am watching it back this morning and its fun to listen to this whole thing. Gen 3 is such a beautiful generation. Enjoy my friend
I don't get why you and most other poketubers discuss 3 stages as different pokemon. I know they technically are, but, like, were're fans here, we don't need to bloat thr number of dex entries, why don't rate the entire line based on the best design from it? Like, who cares Charmander and Charmeleon exists, if in most competitive formats you'll use Charizard? It's like its true and complete forme. Like, we don't rate celebrities based how they looked in middle school or how they acted in their earliest movies
Lombre grew on me A LOT after PMD: BRT. Before it was one of my least pleasant pokemon to look at. That game in general boosted my Hoenn appreciation. Now I only hate Gens 4 and 5, not 3, 4 and 5
I hate Nuzleaf for its Alladin pants, I hate everything middle eastern for some weird irrational reason. Medicham pass cos it's got the best typing (I mean my favorite combo).
I hate Vigoroth being a stupid monkey that always attacks me in Paldea. Third most annoying pokemon after Veluza, the worst offender, and Skiddo due to the sheer commonality of one. Paldean Tauros is not far behind, it just looks good enough for me to not mind it attacking me near Porto Marinada.
Salamence looks like an unartistic 8 y.o. boy's drawing with distorted proportions, drawn with like 10 pounds of pressure on the pencil. It's stooopid!
I too don't get the Breloom love. It's an ok design, but that's it. I don't like the proportions, I don't like it being physical, I don't like the shade of green it uses.
I don't think so. Pokemon is special because it's old-school, it's Japanese, and it's got everything you want (nature, tough creatures, smart creatures, science, mysticism, etc.) and all those elements don't interfere much with each other, hence not ruining each other (like how you ruin magic mixing it with futuristic sci fi setting)
Despite Gardevoir not having proper feet like Sallazle does, it's still the most gorgeous waifumon out there. Not even Tsareena comes close! I always have a never-ending b*ner whenever I have 3D Gardevoir on my team!
CASTNUTS I love these tier list pods 😂 can't wait for Gen 4!! Also, totally agree with Lumi - Dusty, Soul, you guys gotta play New Pokémon Snap. It gave me so much more appreciation for some of the 'mons. And the graphics are just superb!
Im glad you are enjoying it! Theyre so much fun to do and share our opinions with eachother. We only became friends like a year ago so a lot of our takes are hot hot hot lol Gen 4 tier list is coming sooner than you think! We're excited to talk about gen 5 too!
@@HiddenPowerPodcast you guys have serious long-time friend energy. You're always super respectful of each others's spicy takes and these always feel like a fun discussion between good pals. Super grateful for the pod!! I'm gonna rewatch the other gen tier list eps now lol
Here's my gen 3 team : SWAMPERT (JETZ) FLYGON (RUSH) BREELOM (ROO) TORKAOL (KOAL) EXPLOUD (BOOM BOOM) AGGRON (ARRY) this team won me everything on sapphire, emrald,& aplaha Sapphire I love this team it's in my top 3 teams I've built ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m with Soul on the starters especially, the mudkip line is meh, marshtomp is an abomination. But man Grovyle is so so good. That and Quilava are my favourite middle stages, I really grew attached to grovyle in Mystery Dungeon too. But final stage wise, blaziken beats sceptile every time, I like blaziken. Overall though when I first played hoenn as a kid I thought it was too colourful, I missed the classic johto and Kanto style and I think the same goes for the Pokémon. My S tier Pokémon in hoenn though are Jirachi, Grovyle, Skitty, flygon and milotic. Maybe the lati duo as well. Connecting my gba to the GameCube to get jirachi in Pokémon channel was a VERY special feeling. I think an issue I have with hoenn is similar to unova. The first game doesn’t really include many Pokémon from past gens, which can be good, but it makes it harder to think of them as Pokémon. Also one last thing, beautifly is actually a mosquito I believe! That’s why it has the twirl on its mouth. That made me appreciate more as it’s own.
Also mega controversial opinion: I can't stand Rayquaza. It looks like it ate someone's lipstick, I hate the mouth it has. Not only does it not fit in type wise with the trio, the others are single type Pokemon and it's new "enemy" Deoxys is also single type but Rayquaza has to be dragon/flying. Not just that, it's the THIRD different dragon/flying Pokemon in gen 3. Was Salamence and Alteria having that same typing not enough?
How was it last episode? (Episode before this one). This episode was recorded a few weeks back-and we realized this problem watching it back and tried to improve it. Was it better last week? Thanks for the feedback-and sorry for busting your eardrums and making you have to play with your volume the whole ride! 😅
I gave my friend crap for having Ruby. Then had my first experience with Gen 3 renting Colossuem. I bought a Gameboy SP soon after and a copy of Emerald
I went from really liking Torkoal from the anime to kinda feeling meh as I feel towards most of the Hoenn pokemon, to now respecting Drought Erruption Torkoal's competitive viability.
S-Tier podcast as always Started off a little weird with Blaziken and Reshiram Gen 3 is kind of in a weird place between the underwhelming Gen 2 and very loved Gen 4
If im not mistake i'm pretty sure mudkip takes inspiration from multiple animals including mudskippers and axolotls, kind of like cyndaquil and rodents.
Ok, I'm back from brainstorming the Magma type. I have theorycrafted some pretty radical types in the past... heck, I could defend Fungus and Fish type. But even by those standards, Magma is just not a type.
Sa-naito/Gardevoir with Synchro with any neutral Nature leading in Emerald will make any wild Pokémon get a Nature match 50% of the time. You can also use Ke-shi/Abra, Yungera-/Kadabra, or Fu-din/Alakazam with the same Ability and Nature to do the same.
Gen 3 is the most overrated region. Sceptile and Blaziken are awful designs to me, especially Sceptile line. Not only that, Treecko in gen 3 sucks. It has absorb until level 29 and people slander Chikorita? Hell nah.
