Ranking 37 Mainline Pokemon Games from BEST to WORST!

I agreed with everything except diamond and pearl and platinum. And omega ruby, alpha sapphire. I think BW2 is A tier, DP is A tier and Platinum S tier. I mean it was the first time they introduced deep concepts in Pokémon like time and space and different realities. Capture the flag underground and the distortion world is to this day probably one of my favorite things in Pokémon ever. I did start with diamond and pearl, but then I went back to play emerald and leafgreen. Also, I think ORAS should be S tier. And ultra SM should be S tier. And SWSH should be B or C tier. It’s very interesting the reason why Pokémon probably does things differently All the time is because everyone kind of wants something different. going forward they should just add more options instead of taking them away and they could still do things differently while keeping all the old options.

I have no idea why really. They also have objectively the best and most well written characters and the story is top for a pokemon game.

@@brachialplexus100 most of their criticisms begin with the games being "hand-holdy" and that ruins it for them. agree, alola has a lot of good characters and good story as well.

Alola also has an SS+ tier soundtrack

I think the issue is that they never really settled on what criteria they were ranking them by. At some point they said it was by the time they came out, at another point they said that that is not a fair way to do it. Ranking games across time will always be difficult depending on whether you judge by what you want to play today versus the context they were released in. Gen 1 could either be at the top or the bottom depending on that.

true but they are just voting based on how much they like them and nostalgia is an important factor in how you enjoy something you've experienced before that you can't really separate yourself from

It’s not fair to judge these games against each other across several decades when the first games were limited by their hardware at the time

@@MireVale true but if you are ranking them on a tier list you should pit them against eachother. it doesn't matter if it's fair or not, you rank what is best highest and what is worst lowest. if you want to rank things by how good they are for their time then that is a whole other discussion in my opinion

If they did do one on Spin Offs , then Colosseum and XD at least B tier and above.

Not me. I started from the beginning with Blue and I wouldn't put that in S tier. Gen 3 will always be the GOAT for me followed by Gen 4 .

I started with gen 2 and would put it in D tier.

And a feature I appreciate way more now than I used to is the character customization. I actually dressed my character.

"so what did Emerald have" To name the behemoth in the room, Team Magma no longer uses a SUBMARINE to find the LAND legendary UNDERWATER, because the active volcano in the middle of the region now has an interior. People praise the Battle Frontier (deservedly), but seriously, vanilla RS essentially became outdated versions with incomplete stories when Emerald came out as far as I'm concerned.

@@AdeptCharon Oh ok. Nah just that I generelly find that favourite pokemon games tend to depend on age and nostalgia. Guys in their 30s like me usually tend to love both GS and HGSS😅

@@brachialplexus100 been breaking 90s pkmn fan stereotypes for over 2 decades, and it seems I'm not stopping with that anytime soon xD but yeah, despite having played gen 2 absurdly many times back in the day, as well as the remakes, all of that nostalgia is not enough to stop me from seeing how flawed (to my subjective preferences) they are in hindsight. Don't get me wrong though, HGSS was the closest we got to a remake that did the remake thing somewhat right. It's just still held back massively by being too faithful to the originals (with BDSP existing that sounds weird to say, cause those took being a faithfully bad remake to a whole other level), but essentially, my main gripe with HGSS is that it felt the need to try and recreate the context of GSC in a post gen3 era, which to me is a huge contradiction. Because Gen3 is when the series was redefined and laid out in a way that was setting up for the long run (it's there that we start having a notion of what a "new region" should be or have), whereas GSC were conceived as a cherry on top finale to the series. ..because of that, the fauna of HGSS remains mostly frustrating (most "gen2" pkmn being hidden in obscure places as if they're easter eggs to seek out in the post-game, a huge contrast to the post-gen3 era where new pkmn ARE the spotlight of the adventure), and so it results in a missed opportunity of giving Johto a shot at being a fleshed out region (in terms of Pkmn specifically, which strongly carries on into things like gym leaders and E4 battles..). Frankly, it feels awkward to have a REMAKE stick to a structure that was based on the assumption that the "iconic" Pkmn in it are a mystery.. cause the cat was out of the bag by the end of Gen2 already.

@@HiddenPowerPodcast have you tried getting 8F? It's actually a lot of fun if you can find a great use for it. For example, you can get any Hidden Power for mons to transfer to Gen 2. Or at least you can make breeding for correct HP type a lot easier: no need to catch high level parents where it's easy to calculate Defense DV (or Attack? Only one of HP DVs is inherited, it's either Atk or Def). And the best part is that it's not even cheating cas all you do is you use legit game control inputs and no other devices or software. What other game gives you that opportunity?
