That makes sense. One thing I didn’t include in the video because I couldn’t fit it in well was a lot of seasons end on a weird line, like season 3 ends with haida saying “are you hungry?” and Retsuko says “I haven’t eaten yet” and then the dramatic credits play. So I may be a little bit biased lumping those endings together as feeling a little jarring to me, but yeah I was also thinking it’s nice Haida doesn’t have animosity towards Tadano anymore. With how important getting married was to Retsuko it's extremely weird she'd be OK with a court room wedding. As well as her parents. It just felt like the writers just ran out of time and needed to get to the end game right now as oppose to building on it, or even leaving that in the air. Also I don't think it's weird that Retsuko screamed at Tadano. You can see she's trying to explain to him in a soft, gentle, but stern voice what she wants. However, Tadano wasn't hearing it. He was just trying to convince her that his way is best. The only time he shut up and actually listened to what she had to say was when she did her scream singing.

Season 1 is basically a depressing and dark season for retsuko. Things only get much brighter in season 2 and the after. That's the basic tone of season 1. And overwork is just a common problem is Asia, even in modern country like Japan. There is a weird working culture called system of responsiblity, which make them get off really really late until they get their job done. Every Retsuko season is focusing on the sociey problem of Japan. But season 2 & season 3 really hit the spot and have strong character emotion and development at the same time. Whick make both the best season of Aggretsuko imo.

My rankings for seasons would be as followed. Season 1: pretty solid it's basic but it sets the stage for story, world and characters it has. Season 2: in my opinion the best season of the show and tadano was built up rather well and the whole pursue your dreams theme was really nice. Season 3: mostly good but I had issues with how the show was ready to have hidia move on from rettesko a welcomed choice in my book till the show decided to abandon the entirety of it over a text and the whole stocker plot theme has some issues in the sense even if it wasn't all his idea hidia stocking rettesko to stop another stocker. Overall nearly solid but not season 2 level. Season 4: the worst season baring tone(misspelled the name probably) little arc. I'd rather pretend this season was a practical joke but it's not. Season 5: it was ok but I feel season 4 really killed the show for me and where as season 5 plot was fine it feels like it was them trying to redeem hidia even though the writers put him in that position for no reason other than bad writing. Overall the show's ending was mediocre for me at best.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they felt they had to fit things into the last remaining 10-15 minutes, but I think they showed haida and retsuko together too much throughout the entire show where there would be a lot of people disappointed if they weren’t together at the end. Haida X Retsuko felt so forced and soulless. There was almost no chemistry, just awkward interactions between them while everyone was pushing them to date each other. He should have settled with Inui and stopped simping for Retsuko. Not only that, but what kind of lesson does this tell men, "If she rejects you, don't move on to better options, keep obsessing over the one that's clearly not that into you and eventually she will come around. " Their relationship was handled so poorly. The only things they had in common were their taste in music, their jobs, and the fact they are both very emotionally immature.

@KingEgyptian Год назад
@@bio-weaponn5576 Bro you are gaslighting. Nobody said Haida was a bad guy, nor does his simping have anything to do with him saving Retsuko. He was just at the right place at the right time. Retsuko and Haida get together in the end, yes, but the whole relationship was not good and the marriage was very quickly glossed over. There was no real mutual romance, just Haida obsessing (simping) over Retsuko and Retsuko getting with Haida cuz there was no one else while being peer pressured by everyone to date him. Hell Haida had more chemistry with Inui, Tadano, and Fenneko than he did Retsuko.
@oreocream934
@oreocream934 Год назад
I kinda like season 4, I agree in most of the points said because I do feel it was a regression on Haida’s arc, mostly because he was all “let’s kick ass and show the world!” And then proceed to not kick ass or show the world, also kinda character assassination when Haida didn’t consider to tell retsuko any of what was happening, when I feel Haida from the last season would when she was outright asking him… I’m not a big fan of plots that can be resolved if characters just sat and talk, like, why didn’t retsuko tell Haida she was seeing Tadano? I don’t think he would believe she’s doing something behind his back, her hiding it only made him more suspicious. But I do like that they gave Haida the spotlight in the season, and I like that they showed Haida’s insecurities, he’s not without flaw, and really feels the need to be reassured, so even though he really loves retsuko, he has a deep feeling of needing to fit in, and yeah, understandable now that we know about his family and his weird relation with his dad. All in all, I don’t consider it the worst but not the best, season 5 it’s its own can of worms.

What I really don't like about the hospital conclusion is that it takes place in the Christmas special. Seriously though, don't feel bad for forgetting about the Christmas special though LOL. I had zero idea that it even existed, and it took me a fat minute to realize out of my confusion (because I was also like, "Wait. But... we don't get to know what's said?") that we do figure it out in there. I don't know. It's just confusing. Nothing hurts more than one of your favorite shows ending off on a horrible note. So when I watched S3, S4, and S5, my love for the show had my heart wanting me to like the progress of the characters and the plot, however, my mind was in heavy disagreement. :,) I've gotta say that my ranking would be: 1. Season 1 2. Season 2 3. Season 5 (felt more like a S4, but I'm pretending it doesn't exist 💀). 4. Season 3 5. Season 4 What made me upset about Season 5 is that the conclusion raises SO MANY questions for me: 1. Does Haida and Retsuko ever move out of their apartment? Are they almost done saving up for a house? 2. Retsuko and Haida got married, right. Does her parents even know? What's their reaction? I don't get it. Is Haida still distancing himself from his family? Does Retsuko's father grow to believe that he's worthy of his daughter now (which I could maybe see be the possibility because of the photo at the end but I want to see it for myself 🥲). 3. I'm disappointed we don't get to know Fenneko more. She's honestly my favorite character in the show and her laughing is ICONIC ✨️. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it here for now. Lol

I actually liked the christmas special because it didnt set anything too big for the charcters, as we didnt know we would have more seasons at the time. It works well as both an epilogue to s1 and a prologue to s2, while also including crossmedia in their storytelling (when the special came out, the showrunners made her a real instagram profile with the pictures shown in the special, as well as new ones hinting at the topics of s2. It went as far as being a stable through s3, where Retsuko gave her account to the otm girls because it had a bigger number of followers). In regards to Haida, he was still shy at the time and unsure if it was wise for him to ask Retsuko out on christmas after being rejected, so for him to share time with her on their way to the station felt appropiate (and also cleared some of Haida's anxiety, as he was worried that Retsuko might dislike his company entirely). Also, I have no idea why people keep complaing about Haida and saying he's obsessed? He never imposes himself on Retsuko and mostly chastises himself due to his unwavering feelings, is not his fault that he didnt click with Inui, I mean, he was clearly uncomfortable when she made advances with him, so it wasn't weird that they didn't stay together. Haida may have been shy towards Retsuko, but he never felt uncomfortable in her presence, if anything, he felt that he had to be better and bigger to deserve being around her (hence the reason his admiration for Tadano turned to jealousy, as well as his own needs to be acknowledge due to his poor family life that was implied only lasted 17 years before he left his parent's home). Both of them grew to understand the other and get to know their real personalities, and they realized how similar their looks on life were, where is the supposed obsession in that? I swear some of yall are just salty because donkey boy was hotter and are coping the lack of a sugar daddy.

I'm kinda confused as to why you think the Christmas episode is an endorsement of instagram. I thought the whole thing was a critique of getting online validation and trying to be an influencer and it was portrayed as being a neutral or negative thing, definitely nothing positive. Just because they named the company outright doesn't mean they have permission or endorsement from them. I know most shows are afraid of being sued so they tend not to say megacorp's name outright, but they're still technically allowed to.
@Colby2D
@Colby2D Год назад
I think that’s a fair point, but the question I would pose is “why Instagram specifically, why not InstantBook or Hologram?”. They did use Instagram to advertise their real instagram pages in the episode, so you could make that argument as to why, but with many companies, especially social media, any exposure is good exposure. They have a mixed take, and I don’t know if they were paid or sponsored at all, but I respect their mixed take on social media. Thanks for your comment and for watching, I really appreciate it

4:35 It was basically step one of Haida getting out of the friend zone. With the effectiveness coming from him trying to save Retsuko from going too far with online admiration, then showing some comfort to her after everything during their walk in the subway. 5:29 Well after getting nearly STABBED to death I'd say going back to her office job was somewhat of an act of self-preservation from her end. After having a farwell show with the OTM girls of course. She does end up wanting a none eventful normal life later in the series anyway. 6:00 Haida was trying to save and improve the job of his fellow employees especially Retsuko through his coding skills. Himuro saw some potential in Haida and encouraged him to go a step further. Haida had intentions of helping everyone around him however this obviously backfired with him going down a morally questionable path. After having Retsuko (the very person he's the most concern over providing for) slaps some sense into him both verbally and physically, he stands up to Himuro learning a lesson in personal responsibility. He did end up leaving his job due to a sense of uselessness and even degraded a bit further than that but his journey in season 4 was one of figuring out how to help people through his own terms rather than someone else's. 7:00 To be fair it was probably uncharted territory for a writing team making a show focused on work place office dramas and romances to suddenly sift to a Metal Gear/James Bond type story arc. I'd love to be a fly on a wall with the writers trying figure out how Retsuko and her friends running for a political position of power makes any sense. 8:00 I mean technically the season does end with a shot of Haida and Retsuko being together but WHAT WAS even Tadano's struggle in season 4? I honestly can't recall. 9:00 Having near death experience tends to make one not give a crap about making drastic changes to their lives in a hurry but I can only imagine people getting pissed at Retsuko for breaking up with Tadano because she wanted to be a "blushing bride" yet settles for THIS with Haida. We could definitely use an extra special or something showcasing Haida and Retsuko having a REAL wedding though. 11:40 It was more like her sharing her passion with Rasasuke than anything ill willing. However it was his near empty reply to such that made her finally relize this wasn't going to work. 12:00 People find admitting one's feelings is "creepy" and they wonder why real romance is slowly dying in this world. 13:00 Sounds like the "get a job hippie" principle in a nutshell. 13:50 I figured her going all the way with the music idol route would be peak character growth for her, or at least anything better than just going back to her office job which she seemed to have outgrown. 15:30 It couldn't be more obvious there that Haida and Retsuko are soul mates. 18:00 Anai probably gives people ptsd of RU-vid and Twitter arguments. 21:20 Again no ill will is intended there she's basically expressing how she feels over this situation in the most passionate way she knows how. 22:00 One could argue that the series is a means of people with a long history in Japanese corporation life trying to get their voices heard, or at least get some rage vented.

Even though the show ended, it still hurts me cause I know it ended lol. But I agree with your ranking, a lot could more could have been done with certain arcs, but at the same time some of the character's redemption arcs were well done. Personally I really liked Ton's development throughout the series. The way he acted was terrible, but after all that happened, the type of advice he gives to Retsuko and especially Haida in season 5 shows that he genuinely does care about them. Even if it took so many things for that side of him to come out, it was nice to see it happen. Especially when Retsuko helped him out in season 3 by having him manage the RU-vid account after his daughters found out about where he was really working after Haida was promoted. But when it came to Haida, they really did tossle him aorund, especially with season five where we just find out who his parents are, that his last name is haida, thus I'm stuck thinking what his real name is at this rate, and the fact that we never saw him actually get his life together, only by having to assume that he did find a job that Retsuko's father considered to be worthy enough, unless they were just fine with him sudenly coming to the house and being like hey, it's me , your son in law. But overall, as much as I love Haida, a lot of the things that he ended up doing was very frustrtaing because instead of realizing his faults he would pin it on the excuse that it was for Retsuko. But I also feel like that's why they also make a good couple in a way, where she calls him out for what he does, while he supports her in what she does. Because like the christmas episode implies, she wants validation for what she does, and yes even though she doesn't need to worry about what others think, it's something that is also normally seen in life, I know because I'm that type of person too lol. And thus, Haida's support is some form of validation for her, as what we saw in the seaon 5 finale. Their relationship is very rocky and a bit toxic at time yes, but I feel like it was good in a way, because they both had somewhat similar interests in terms of a married life, in comparison to how Retsuko and Tadano's relationship went about it. Also, don't get me wrong, I love Tadano, but even though he did not share the same interest as Retsuko, it was nice seeing him be there for her to the very end regadrless of their history. Overall, regardless of the ending, which I also was not very happy with, again bittersweet, but it's alright for what we were given. The show will forver have a place in my heart, and I will for sure be going back to watch an episode here and there to fill the void from aggretsuko depression lol. Also, great video! Keep it up!

Thanks very much! And yeah I think haida and retsuko cover each other’s flaws pretty well and they make a good couple in that regard. And maybe it shows Retsuko’s development that she doesn’t obsess over Instagram likes anymore or that she never really kept haida around because he validates her, that would have been interesting to see but I also think if they did have that aspect in their relationship, people would be more upset than they already are that they ended up together. @@bio-weaponn5576 she has repeatedly and frequently used Haida, heck all her friends to some degree but mainly Haida. Had he said yes to her proposal in Season 1 she would have quit that day! I was gonna count her needing saving with the Anae thing but that one I can let go cos Anae was a straight-up psycho who any normal person would have reported (hell she was already besties with Washimi at that point so why didn’t she?), anyway: During the whole idol thing she *never* told her “friends” what was going on until it all blew up. Fenneko even says at one point she sees them as “people you talk to at work” and this is true, despite them frequently saving her incompetent butt she froze them all out, with the exception of Washimi (but even she didn’t know the true extent). Then when she needed to learn guitar who did she call up? Oh yeah, the guy she talks to at work and ruined his chance with a decent girl! Now sure, Haida could have declined and given Inue a chance, but for plot convenience he didn’t. Then when she was being followed by the stalker, who she KNEW was out there, she still chose to leave work and walk alone despite the danger and she KEPT WALKING even as Monaka was *screaming* at her to get somewhere safe. She was a dumbass and should have gotten scarred for it … but who saved her? Haida. Who until that point had been respecting her boundaries and staying away. And what does she do when he tries to help her? Claims he is ‘forcing his feelings on her’ … uh no idiot, that’s what the stalker was doing. Haida has been nothing but a solid friend to you and YOU repeatedly drop him like a hot brick. Then next Season, Retsuko is suddenly irate Haida won’t take the next step, after 3 Seasons of her ignoring/rejecting him. Now this part annoyed me, Haida should have absolutely taken the hint, unrequited love sucks but it happens. Then, to really kick the audience in the ass, they made him into a villain then had him say “I did it all for you!” I wouldn’t be as pissed if the dialogue was tweaked, just have the Shifty Boss threaten the others’ jobs, Haida is a caring guy, this would make him tow the line. But nah, he’s gonna risk his job AND his freedom for a woman who has repeatedly used and abused his good nature? I hung on hoping it would improve, but this show went out with one *pitiful* death whimper: having the good dude who was only ever kind to his friends get shafted while the titular idiot got everything she wanted handed to her. So nah, this show ended for me at Season 3. Retsuko is not a good person and a worse protagonist (whose singing sounds like a rusty chainsaw) 😒😒😒

@@LadyLeomon Kinda the whole point of why she faces repercussions for those mistakes in the first place. This isn't something where the main character is defender of justice or anything, it's a slice of life show based around someone having to learn hard lessons (rather it takes an episode or a few seasons to learn that lesson) either on her own terms or from external influences. Her friends literally even call her out and roost her on her short and long-lasting flaws, then slap some sense into her because that's what friends are there for in the first place. Retsuko is a character who makes mistakes and gets into situations ANYONE could get into hence she serves as a vector of life lessons that aims to connect with people whom made similar mistakes or prevent them from making those mistakes in the first place. I'm not gonna to constantly hate on a character whose mistakes in life are the exact reason their story is being told in the first place, especially when they finally grow beyond said mistake.

Honestly Season 5 was the most disappointing. Specifically the most unbelievable thing about the series, the woman who *repeatedly* failed at pretty much everything because she was so goddamned incompetent ... ended up winning all because she can sing a little Death Metal? It was funny the first time she did it, but by Season 2 it had honestly gotten boring. Also she _frequently_ cracks under pressure, how long will she last in her new role? Damn they did my boi Haida dirty, he deserved better than to be some ditz’s backup ... the entirety of Season 4 had him set up to be working for the Shady Boss “because he was doing it all for Retsuko” ... the woman who had frequently used/dropped him according to her whims. I thought Haida was finally moving on with Inue but to have him still simping after her even and be willing to _break the law for her_ ... is just pure bullsh*t! The true reason Haida was chosen to be cast as “the villain” alongside Boss Dog was the simple fact that NO ONE ELSE could have done the job! Let’s analyse this a bit: Ton and Tsubone: both too ‘old-school’ to do what Boss Dog wanted, Komiya: would combust without Ton to guide him, Fenneko: wouldn’t have wanted to work directly for “the man”, Tsunode: a dits not unlike Retsuko (how she still has a job is a miracle), Kabae: would have the same issue she did in the show, that she’s a good mom who puts her kids first, Anae: cracked under the pressure of the current job he has, so of course he wouldn’t do it, Okami: we know next to nothing about him he’s always just sort of _there_ and lastly our titular idiot ... is just that. That she had not been fired (mainly due to Washimi’s intervention) is a miracle, she could barely cope with her own workload, no way in hell could she do it either! The simple fact is they made Haida a co-villain in Season 4 because NO ONE ELSE was competent enough for the job and THAT, to me, is just lazy writing! But back to my main issue: Retsuko was just NOT a good friend, to *any* of her ‘friends’ throughout the majority of the show, including Haida ... finding out he *married her* in the end honestly made me angry I wasted all this time on the show 🤬🤬🤬 Thanks for the review Colby (glad I wasn’t the only one disappointed) 💙🐱💙
