Hey mr smags, i know i abused you a bit in the comments to get you to react to 3d country and i just want to say how much i appreciate your videos, now that i gave my 1 compliment ever i will now be abusing you to listen to how to leave town by car seat headrest
It's crazy that another 40 albums have already passed by tbh. Hopefully there are more bangers coming, and i'd hope that one of them is Magnolia electric co. by Songs: Ohia. Love ya Smags
Glad to see Bocanada placed so high!! Such a great album. And of course Pet Sounds one of the best albums ever, probably the one that touched me the most. Let me recommend you some albums from who are considered the best musicians in Argentinas history: Charly Garcia and Spinetta (Ceratis idol) From Charly: - Clics Modernos (new wave) - Películas, La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros (prog rock) - La Grasa de las Capitales, Seru Giran (people call it symphonic rock/prog rock) From Spinetta: - Artaud, Pescado Rabioso (rock folk, masterpiece) - El Jardín de los Presentes, Invisible (prog rock, unique) - Almendra, Almendra (spinettas first album, folk/rock/jazz)
Coming into this I was worrid pet sounds was gonna place low. Then I realized it made top 10, I was like oh, he gets it. But then at number 1 and changing how he writes music, like, oh, he REALLY gets it. Anyways, album recs - wilco - summerteeth, andrew bird - armchair acrophybia, belle and sebastian - tigermilk, magnetic fields - 69 love songs, broken social scene - you forgot it in people, josh ritter - the animal years
Hell yeah! Can't believe another 40 albums have gone by already. I really enjoyed your Pet Sounds reaction and I'm glad it ended up being your favorite. I was surprised TPTB was number 2, but I agree with you completely. They do so much on the album and the first half is just as dope as the second. I really think it might be there best work. I'm hyped to hear your starting a Patreon!! It's gonna be dope to get uncut reactions/reviews from you. I look forward to supporting you on there! As far as first album I'd like to see you do after this list, you already know dawg lol Funhouse by The Stooges, especially since you really like The Doors you gotta peep this one. Other than that, keep up the great work and thanks for everything you do dude! :) Also, I'm a little early, but you should reach it real soon. Congrats on 15k subs!!
I'm waiting for your Velvet Underground reviews (and another reviews aswell because u are the goat) but especially White Light/White Heat is an album what I'm waiting you to review mainly because Sister Ray is one of the best songs ever made imo.
please listen to MGMT, it doesn't even matter at this point which one but i recommend Congratulations because i think it's their best, but they only have 5 albums (including their new one) so doing them in order would be very cool 🐴🐴
been here since like 100 subs, ur content is amazing i really hope u keep doing youtube stuff and i cant wait to see where u go from here, keep being awesome smags ❤
Surprising to see Pet Sounds at #1! Very great pick tho……once again recommending Emergency and I by The Dismemberment Plan, an indie rock record I feel like would be your thing
Natural Snow Buildings is a must for a weirder take on ambient/drone, and The Dance Of The Moon And The Sun would be a great start. They're absolutely legendary in my book and I hope you get something out of em too.
Congrats on the big 15k man, been watching for almost a year and your videos inspire me to listen to albums that I’ve been meaning to listen to forever and also watch you listen to albums and artists I’ve loved for a long time, keep up the grind 🔥 Album recs (if you made any one of these into a video it would change the way my life turns out): Third Eye Blind - Self-Titled (underappreciated 90s alt-rock album with some classic hits and great lyrics) Parannoul - After the Magic (my fav album of last year, incredible production) Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway (folk rock/country with amazing songwriting) clipping. - Visions of Bodies Being Burned (you need to do some more experimental hip hop and this is some mind-blowing production on top of elite rapping)
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
So happy to see Milton & Lo Borges appear so high on the list. Hope you do more brazilian records soon!! Some requests: A Tábua de Esmeralda - Jorge Ben Jor Construção - Chico Buarque Racional - Tim Maia
Thanks for the great videos! I think you'd also really like before the dawn heals us by M83, wetdream by willyrodriguezwastaken, and virtue by the voidz :)
If you love the ambient bits of replica I think you’d really enjoy his earlier works. There’s a compilation called “Rifts” that’s basically most of his early ambient stuff under the OPN name. You also have to check out r plus seven (would love to see a reaction to this one) but basically any OPN album is an interesting experience as he’s one of those artists that changes his sound from album to album. You never really know what to expect.
Since you love ambient, you might also enjoy some modern classical stuff like Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians" or Philip Glass's "Koyaanisqatsi" soundtrack. And I'll never stop recommending Brian Eno's Apollo!
Awesome lineup, didn't expact Pet Sounds to actually make it to #1. Would suggest you give a listen to Pink by Boris, The Antlers by Hospice, Nurture by Porter Robinson, Promises by Floating Points & Pharoah Sanders
This is a bit late but i remember you said you liked javelin more than the other sufjan stevens projects because of the more eletronic sound so please check out The Age of Adz, the album takes the electronic elements from Javelin and bumps it up 1000% also incredibly underated and has some of his best songs.
Amazing list, you have awesome music taste ❤️ I would love it if you could react to the debut album by TR/ST, as well as “Sleeping With Ghosts” by Placebo. Also since you reacted to Bocanada, I think you will like “Mediocre” by Ximena Sariñana, which is in my opinion another fantastic Latin American album, there is so many great music in Spanish that you should definitely check out :p
Helloooo I love your videos and here are some of the many many many albums that I have been gatekeeping • Hospice - The antlers • Bad Contestant - Matt Maltese • Historian - Lucy Dacus • Fruit for flies - The army, The navy
Based list!! Here some recommendations: Viagra Boys - Cave World (post- punk) Tim Hecker - Virgins (ambient) Lil Ugly Mane - Volcanic bird enemy… (neo psychedelia) The Clash - London Calling (punk rock)
I think when it comes to Alex G, you would appreciate Rules and DSU especially, since they have a closer sound to Trick. Please give them a shot, you would like them more I feel. That Race placement killed me btw ☹️
There's still one more Aphex Twin album under his main name The Aphex Twin, Melodies from Mars, it has been confirmed to be official however it's only on RU-vid and it is a Bootleg
You should watch the film “Love and mercy” about Brian Wilson. It’s the best music biopic I’ve seen (great acting, doesn’t do most the usual biopic tropes, doesn’t try to just fit in the whole career but focuses on an actual character arc) and it covers the making of Pet Sounds in a really interesting way that gives you a good feel of how it was put together.
Can i brag with my family how all my favorite albums end up in Smag's "top 10 albums reviewed recently" videos? Also, could you react to "Tri Repetae" by Autechre? They are a duo that where known for pushing boundaries with their IDM eletronic experimental stuff and many times Boards Of Canada and Aphex Twin have said to take them as inspiration.
hey, love your reactions! i have a few albums i would love to see you react to. 1. Isd and the search for god - self titled 2. desert sand feels warm at night - new world disciples 3. machine girl - wlfgrl 4. panchiko - deathmetal
Its been nice watching your channel grow. Please react to Pinback's albums Blue Screen Life or Summer in Abaddon...or both😁 Also I think you would like Rob Crows solo album He Thinks He's People
Yo if you wanna get into a genre that you haven’t showcased yet, I highly recommend the album Everything Goes Numb by Streetlight Manifesto. They’re a Ska-Punk band that has some really hard hitting lyrics and really talented musicians. I highly highly recommend
please consider doing another king krule reaction before the next 40 album video i promise you won’t be disappointed. i suggest you listen to man alive!
kinda wild 2 recommendations but 3 cheers for sweet revenge by mcr is pure energy and beatles records like abbey road or Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts are rly good
Smags I truly believe wholeheartedly that Mellon Collie by Smashing Pumpkins will be one of your favorite albums to listen to It’s so goddamn consistent and better than Siamese Dream in my opinion anyways but it truly has so much to offer. Slow dreamy songs to hard hitting punches in the face kinda songs.
If you like ambient, you'd probably love The Field - From Here We Go Sublime. Came out same year as Burial - Untrue and was critically acclaimed but Burial became a household name (ish). Ultra pretty loops and an 808. Fun channel, keep it up.
You need to react to Bob Dylan. Either blood on the tracks if you want to be sad about a past relationship. Or highway 61 revisited if you just want the most standard Dylan record that is all bangers and great for a new listener.
Both my favorite and second favorite all time albums are here so I may as well comment on them Seeing my favorite album A I A: Alien Observer made me feel like SpongeBob saying “there I am Gary there I am!” While I obviously wish it were higher, the 2 in the 25 it got is such a sophisticated and astute gentleman I’m glad to have my beloved in its place. Funny how my #2 all time was also your #2 pick. Don’t feel weird about not definitively preferring Jenny death, both sides will ALWAYS be equals in my book.
Ok Smags these are my picks Take It From the Man! - The Brian Jonestown Massacre Beat - Bowery Electric You’d Prefer a Astronaut - Hum Man Alive - King Krule
Oh my god please tell me Led Zeppelin 3 is soon! It's my favorite of theirs, and if you like the softer, more acoustic cuts from LZ1 and 2, then you'll love 3.
Hey if you want to listen into a super super unknown but incredible album, listen to finger of death by heathers. It’s super experimental, fun, and they capture the same vibe as ween a lot of the time
It's a great album, but I don't see the appeal of a reaction video to two hours of calm instrumental drone music. I feel like that would quickly become redundant.
If you love ambient music PLEASE do yourself a favor and give 2814 a listen their album, 新しい日の誕生 (a.k.a. birth of a new day), is in my opinion the PINNACLE of ambient music. It's also a good introduction to vaporwave.
I'm so glad you're standing more on your own opinions now for these rankings than trying to do anything objective. I feel like as you listen to more music, you become more qualified to tell if something is objectively good or not, but you also realize that it's kinda worthless to rate things in some objective sense. It just feels wrong to rank an album you didn't love, but is 'objectively good', higher than an album you absolutely love, but doesn't have the same accalim.
