Ranking Every American Soda from WORST to BEST 

Fun fact, the taste of the soda will change depending on its temperature due to its acidic nature. Additionally, things sweetened with corn syrup will have more of a bite the warmer they are.

From what I understand mt. Dew isn’t outlawed in Europe because of the high sugar content. It’s because of the coloring that is used. Apparently some scientific paper loosely attributed (red 48? And some other artificial coloring) to adhd. It’s the same reason why a lot of American cereals are banned in the eu.

Just a little heads up, the actual taste of the soda may actually vary from country to country, as some countries may not allow some of the ingredients that the USA allows, and the various Soda companies have to tweak their recipes according to what is allows for each country to sell in those countries. For instance, I believe the reason for the American Fanta Orange soda is a dark Orange, while the Norwegian Fanta Orange is Yellow/Bright Orange, is that the American Fanta Orange contains a food coloring ingredient that Norway has banned, and without that food coloring in the Norwegian Fanta Orange, the color is significantly brighter/different than the American one. I also believe the taste is also different, but it has been too long since I last tasted an American Fanta Orange, so I can't tell you that for sure.

For anyone that didnt know; Starry is Sierra Mist! They went through a rebranding this year.

Regular Mountain Dew tastes less poisonous than the zero sugar one. I'm not sure why but having no sugar makes the strong flavor of it taste incomplete and the sting really sticks out. I got it once on accident and it was the worst soda I've ever had and I usually like Mountain Dew.

Starry is a new soda that came out back in January of this year and is the replacement for Sierra Mist. It's pretty much just Sprite, but with a bit more sugar. Also, Mtn Dew is banned in Europe due to it containing Yellow 5. Not the high sugary content. I remember Connor talking about it back when he tried American cereal.

Japan uses High Fructose Corn Syrup in their soda's as well...Also Japanese Coke has more calories so I would guess more sugar than American coke/original coca cola.

Every American (especially in the South): "Oh yeah? Where were they bottled?" This is a legit question, btw. For one example, the quality and taste of Dr. Pepper can vary *widely* depending on which company is licensed to bottle it. I've tasted Diet Coke out West, and it was strange. I can only imagine what kind of abominations are bottled under license abroad.

It always throws me off that people outside the US feel that 20-30g of sugar is "too much", it concerns me and always makes me think twice about drinking soda. Which I've cut out time and time again, but always come back to somehow... Problem with cutting out soda is most of our foods have extra sugar pumped into them, so it really isn't easy to cut down.

The US mountain dew used to have brominated vegetable oil until 2020, which is banned in the EU and Japan. It also have different colouring, Carotene instead of Tartrazine, it also looks greenish, rather then like piss.

The extra sugary taste usually comes from alternative/artificial sweeteners in zero/diet drinks. Sad as it is, just because it says there's no sugar doesn't mean it's not sweetened. Usually with stevia (zero) which to me tastes horrible because of it's super sweet and sour aftertaste or sweet 'n low (diet) which is extra sweet and tastes extra artificial.

Soda is very different from country to country, would be interesting to see what rating you would give to the same types in different countries as well 🤔

To me, diet versions tend to have a horrible chemical taste which lingers on after drinking. It literally tastes like the types of sugar (pills, cubes) sold for people with diabetes.

Actually, Dew is related to Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) that gives it the characteristic cloudy appearance and acts as a stabilizer. Research has found that it acts as an endocrine disruptor and has resulted in it being banned in most of the world (outside the US). As of 2020, they stopped using BVO for Dew except for the product known as "Throwback" which uses real sugar and BVO.

I wish you tried more rootbeers, the difference between Barq's >IBC > MUG> A&W is pretty different. You don't really get served A&W at most fastfoods or restaurants anymore, its usually Barq's or Mug. I swapped to drinking mostly rootbeers since its the best pop if you don't want to destroy your teeth with the acid content. It is lower acid content than most sweet tea's.

As an American who prefers tea over all else. I'd recommend trying IBC cream soda, ALE8, Nugrape, Peach Coca Cola, & Cotton Candy Faygo They are my favorites

coke zero is my favorite out of all these to be honest...since I'm diabetic already i am basically bound to all zero sugar drinks or diet drinks but i sneek sometimes a coke or a Pepsi in the mix when i get low blood sugar and i can't untaste the syrup in those when i do...your body does wild things when your use to the one thing your drinking most of the time...i use to love diet coke but then coke zero came along and I'm addicted to it lol its the perfect balance of flavor i am looking for when i crave a soda...at least for me that is ^.^'

Diet and Zero doesn't indicate sugar level but that they use artificial or alternative sweeteners instead of sugar. Mountain Dew Zero uses Aspartame instead. The sugar alternative stevia makes things taste way too sweet to me.

Coke Zero is my jam, glad Joey liked it too.

I prefer the diet sodas in the US because I really like the aspertame sweetness over the corn syrup. The trade off tho is diets are like super bubbly overly carbonated where regulars are flatter.

Next time I suggest drinking water after the soda so the taste can leave your mouth, so it won’t linger into the next soda you drink. (Maybe the drink will taste better?) lol sorry, I dislike it when flavor of any kind lingers in my mouth, it starts to feel gross after that. In terms of soda, if you can find it somewhere, I recommend Russian Baikal. It's basically like a way more herbal Coke or Pepsi. Or Tarkhuna, which I believe is a Georgian drink, so it might be easier to find.

In America 7up is manufactured by the parent company Keurig Dr Pepper. Internationally PepsiCo handles the production and distribution of 7up. PepsiCo in America has the Starry (formerly Sierra Mist) brand to compete with 7up. So it makes sense that internationally 7up tastes like Starry because in that case it is PepsiCo making the 7up and not Keurig Dr Pepper.

sugar substitutes are actually "sweeter" by volume than regular sugar. that being said corn syrup is not the same as cane sugar.
