Today, we're going to be ranking each of the souls games by FromSoftware from best to worst. This includes Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. My list changes every time I play through the games, but I wanted to share my current ranking as well as what I like and dislike about each because they all have unique aspects that set them apart from each other.

I’m glad someone agrees with me on elden ring. The game was amazing and the lord and story was great but the open world made the game feel unfocused and muddled at certain points. The actual map wasn’t too memorable for me since nothing truly felt that unique to me. Gameplay and story was great but I really wish the game as a whole felt more unique and that the story had more to it. I also wish the characters got more screen time, their stories usually felt short and having to track them down across the map every time got repetitive. Once again the characters were amazing it’s just that many of them didn’t have much screen time even the main ones like Melina. The open world itself kinda makes the new game plus a little more mundane as well since you’ve already explored most of the map and know where most of the items are. But yeah that’s the gist of my feelings on elden ring it’s kinda mixed and I’m surprised if anyone read this far I just had to get it all out somewhere ;^{

My guy actually ranked Sekiro at #1. I think this is the first ever souls ranking I've seen do that. Respect, fellow mutual ♥️♥️♥️ Honestly thought, I totally agree with what you said about replayability. In traditional souls games, even with build variety, theres two fundamental playstyles-caster and melee. When you've done that you're just experimenting within the game. In Sekiro, when you mastered the systems, you can replay it endlessly because it never gets easy in a boring way. The tempo is so visceral its always exciting. As a personal note, the game is very small in GB size, I always keep it installed because you never know when you're gonna want to boss rush some amazing boss like father or isshin. Its a truly amazing game, and I love to see it getting the respect it deserves!

For me, sekiro is a masterpiece and the best game that Fromsoftware has made. The story is more direct and accesible without losing the lore, the combat is perfect due to the demandings of learning the basics and how it easy it gets when you are getting better in the final bosses, it shows your progression perfectly. The art direction and music show a completely different style that fits incredebly to the game's setting, and just having the oportunity of fight again every boss makes me play more to this game. I have only played Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring and out of them I would say Elden Ring was my least favorite. I mean still was an amazing game but it had one huge flaw for me which for some might come off as a nitpick but for me is a major factor in my enjoyment of any action/adventure game. Which is enemy variety. I mean don't get me wrong their was a great deal of enemy variety in Elden Ring. The issue was it felt like once I got like the 60 to 70% point of the game that variety basically runs out. Felt like once I got to Lyndell it became rare to run into a new enemy type that wasn't a boss. Was highly let down when you get to the snow area as I was sure it would be full to the brim with new enemies as it's the only snow area in the game. Yet felt like not a single enemy was new at best a few would be slight variations on a enemies but basically the same in how they attack. Then Haligtree the last legacy dungeon was such a grind as again I'm expecting this unique area and the last legacy dungeon to be filled with new enemies. Yet pretty sure that entire area doesn't have one single new enemy. Instead like 80% of the enemies are just the generic soldiers you have been finding and fighting for the entire game. And only enemies besides them really are just field bosses that demoted that if you explored the entire game and fought them all before that then this would be like your 10+ time fighting them. Which was another nitpick in which I wish their was more variety on field bosses. Which this is more of a nitpick for me as I get it's probably hard to create unique bosses when you have like 150 of them in total. It just for me it became boring to search out all of these field bosses when you fight so many of them 5 to 10+ times each with only minor changes to them. While the other 2 games every area is basically nothing but unique enemies. Yea sure you have some enemies that aren't like dogs or crows showing up or some other enemies from other areas. But for the most part each area is completely different in the enemies you fight.

Hard agree. This isn't nostalgia talking at all because Bloodborne was my first, then I played Demon's (original) directly after, in the last year the servers were still up and you could still use the online component. I'd been told that it was a waste of time because it's older and it can't have aged well, but even just days after finishing BB I didn't think it felt that bad at all... obviously it was a bit clunkier, but when I died I never felt like it was the fault of the game having aged badly, it always felt like my fault... but to echo your sentiment here, yeah, Demon's is oozing with a specific sort of charm and atmosphere that's really hard to describe with words. I love BB, DS1 and I'm currently enjoying Sekiro (though I wouldn't consider Sekiro souls) and I can easily explain why I love those games specifically, but yeah, my love for DeS defies language and it's frustrating that it's lost on a lot of people, but oh well each to their own, lol.

One reason I like Dark Souls 2 is because of soul gems: it gives you a big reason to stay a pure melee build instead of putting points in faith for healing spells just so you can keep your flasks from running dry. Kind of disappointed it didn't come back in Elden Ring, though it would have been very limited by having you split a flask into multiple crimson stones or be extremely rare and expensive until you manage to get the appropriate bell bearing that would probably be in an end game area.

Great video. I haven't played all of the games in the list. Elden Ring was my first souls game. I almost quit playing because it was so frustrating. I picked it back up and destroyed. After beating Elden Beast I immediately started NG+. I kept going to NG+4 before I lost interest. I was completely blown away with Elden ring. I was in love. I needed more so I started Bloodborne since everyone said it was awesome. It was awesome! I like the guns, weapons and rally. I still think Elden Ring is far better. Bloodborne was so easy. Next went to Sekiro. Sekiro was beautiful. I did not like Sekiro because of the constant parry. It was kinda of boring after a while. I started DS3 a couple weeks ago. In the beginning I thought it sucked but I was wrong. I just beat nameless king and I love this game. My list so far Elden Ring DS3 Bloodborne Sekiro

That's quite funny that you said you were addicted to Dark Souls 2 when you first played it. My first playthrough took over a year, not because the game was challenging, but because I found it so tedious. I changed my build 3 times over my playthrough starting with Str/Dex then Dark, Strength and then Dex. Idk if that was because I was tired of playing Souls games or I didn't use spells enough but either way I'm not gonna be replaying it anytime soon.

The flurry of attacks Genichiro throws felt a lot like Melenia so I tried the same evasion/camping but got my ass kicked. Once I realized the strategy was to have as little chill as he did everything clicked. If only I could fight Melenia in Sekiro cause she feels like she was ripped straight out of it.

This list comes the closest to mine of all lists i have ever seen. And I totally agree with all your points you brought up, even if i would rank Sekiro no 3., and I can‘t really describe why. It‘s just the feeling DS3/BB are giving me, especially BB created a majestic atmosphere while Sekiro, even if it has a few of the prettiest areas of all gaming, could never give me this feeling. As I said, I can‘t really explain it. And I totally agree with DS3 that high, I personally think, that the linearity is a good thing, so the balancing could come out as great as it is now. In matter of Bloodborne, I do agree with the feeling, that the healing system sucks, but I never had trouble with running out of healing even in blood level 4 runs so I don’t consider it in this list.

I played through DS3 twice. One time as a Dex/Int build and it was the hardest time I ever had in a regular playthrough of any of these games. I did next to no damage (about 200 a spell and 300 a hit in the late game). Thought it sucked, never wanted to play it again. 3 years later I gave it another shot running a pure strenght build using only great club and it was the easiest of all Souls playthroughs I ever had. I went around 5 hitting most bosses and the toughest still took less than 10 hits. I died about 10 times in total and most of those were to gravity. A complete joke all the way, not enjoyable at all. Had a worse time than even the first time I played it, even though it didn't take long. Really glad that they had to make the game really linear to achieve this amazing balancing.

My first "souls game" was sekiro and at first I found the combat frustrating and i died like 700 times to Gyobu but after struggling even longer with Genichiro the combat also clicked for me. You can tell the game focuses on the combat and the final boss is the ultimate test to ensure that you have full mastery over it and it is my second favorite souls game because of it. After Sekiro, DS3 was my second second souls game. It was definitly a switch up from Sekiro due to less focus on deflecting/parrying but i picked up the combat pretty quickly after Gundyr. I loved the rest of the game because it just felt like i was going through a journey with incredible bosses. I don't really know how to describe it but it just felt so cool to explore dark souls 3 and therefore it will always be my fav souls game. Maybe if bloodborne ever comes to pc it could become my favorite but like that will ever happen...

Its a semi open world with literally everything being viable! Even going unarmed and unarmored is viable thanks to the Vanquisher's Seal(Massive unarmed damage/scaling up + unarmed power stancing) and Flynn's Ring(Less Max weight/vitality = more damage). I wish I was making it up but its a legit melee glass cannon build with the downside of needing to grind heavily for the V. Seal. Its a game that gives you endless options and makes them all good even the dumb ones if you know how to build your character. So experimentation is heavily rewarded. Plus they made spell casting speed not being tied to spell caster stats instead of dex so strength based spell casters can exist!

I think the variety of levels and enemies also helps a lot. In the first half of the game you barely see them repeating enemies from one level to the next one, and every level is designed in such a way that it feels distinct. Like you go inside a fortress in Forest of the Last Giant then almost right after it you go to the Lost Bastille which is another fortress and it feels so different. You also explore Drangleic Castle, then go to Eleum Loyce in the dlc and both places are very different from one another while on paper they're the same thing. Most areas feel unique, even the most hated ones like Shrine of Amana and Iron Keep leave an impression on the player because of how beautiful and distinct they are. DS1 has that same thing going on in the first half but then they screw up in the second one. I would even say that the interconectivity of the levels takes away from their uniqueness a bit. Then in DS3 it's like they didn't care at all anymore. It starts with a rehash of the Undead Burg and the Undead Parrish, it has the obligatory sewer level, then the obligatory crypt level, then the obligatory swamp that leads to...another swamp. I see a lot of people criticising DS2 for not having it's levels interconected but nobody seems to care about how those levels are actually designed. Besides I would rather be able to teleport from one level to another than being forced to run through a bunch of different levels every time I want to go back to the main hub, that only adds to the artificial difficulty of the game which is something that the DS franchise's game design is suppossedly against.

I love the music of Majula. I haven't gotten very far in DS2 at all (I went down those stairs instead into the forest of giants and had an extremely bad time of it, lol), but that music took me by surprise. I was cautiously exploring and looking out for enemies but then the music started and I just stopped walking to listen. I then realized I was in a safe area and it was okay to stop and listen. I also haven't finished Demon's Souls or Dark Souls 1, but I do sort of place them in the same order as you just based on what little I've played of them. I think I place the Demon's Souls remake higher than DS1 for now. I agree where you put Elden Ring. I burned out on it and I haven't touched it in months now. Certain aspects were great and certain ones left me extremely frustrated. FromSoftware's hands-off approach works in their other games, but less so in Elden Ring even with the map and being able to place markers on it. I'm for sure far less interested in the story than I have been for any other of their games. I also agree about the way bosses were done for the most part. All the main bosses I've fought except for Margit have been way too easy for me. Radahn took me 4 or 5 attempts. Rennala was too easy once I learned to save my 3 lone wolves for phase 2; then they just stunlocked her and the fight was over in a matter of seconds. I beat Godrick on my first attempt because I used both the jellyfish summon and summoned that woman NPC. It made me wish I hadn't summoned her for it. Bloodborne has been the only game where summoning has felt fairly balanced for me. The NPCs I summoned for Darkbeast Paarl, Rom, and the Living Failures all were pretty great at drawing aggro and lasting long enough to keep me alive the rest of the fight. So far for DS3 I've summoned only for Friede and the Demon Prince fights. Lapp was balanced for the Demon Prince. Gael made Friede almost trivial with how he handles her in phase 2, but I hate that fight so I'm not complaining about how much easier he makes it. I like DS3 a lot, but yeah, I agree with it also. I love the main game so much, but the DLCs have me a bit pissed. I'm in the Ringed City and I'm to the point of running past most enemies. It doesn't feel balanced to me. Then sticking so many Ringed Knights and Herald Knights around feels like they made it difficult just for the sake of it and feels more like bullshit than almost anything the main game does. I'm pushing through so I can fight the final bosses and properly finish the game, but the DLCs actually dropped it below Bloodborne and Sekiro for me. Bloodborne is number one. I finished it a bit over a month ago and it was an amazing experience. The DLC felt fair and balanced and the rush of beating the Orphan of Kos is up there with what I felt beating the Nameless King. Both are so difficult, but they don't do too much that I call bs on, unlike Laurence and Sister Friede. Bloodborne's speed clicked with me so well that I still get tripped up in DS3 because I'm not moving as fast as I want to. I'm finishing Sekiro once I finish DS3, but I already know I'm going to rank it just under Bloodborne (or equal to it) just from what I've experienced so far. I'm holding off, because I want to focus on it without bringing in muscle memory from DS3. I hate parrying in DS3, but I finally got a handle on parries in Bloodborne and the parries are also clicking for me in Sekiro.

I played DS1 and 3 then elden ring and Bloodborne and I'm still struggling with myself to play DS2 and sekiro. My favorite and most finished souls is DS3 and then Bloodborne. And boss fights are the exact reason I would rather DS3 than most games in the series. Currently halfway through DeS original (ps3) and I have just been frustrated grinding all the time for upgrades. Let me tell you a story. I saw a small image of a game in the PlayStation magazine way way back when the ps3 first came out and we were dying for new games. The magazine said the game was a JP exclusive but they were in talks to bring it to America. There was something about that one little screenshot that made me want it bad. So I waited and waited. Eventually , it was announced and on release day I went to Best Buy. They didn’t have a copy. So I went to another Best Buy. No copy. But this guy was cool and he searched their database and found out that one Best Buy in South Carolina got 3 copies that day. I drove an hour away to this store and strangely enough , I found one copy of the game tucked behind a copy of some call of duty game. It was so odd that it had just come out that day yet it was tucked back like a long forgotten game. Nobody was talking about Demons Souls. Nobody knew anything about it. Yet I took this game home and began to play. I can’t describe the experience of entering this world that seemed so strange and scary and exciting, knowing I was probably the only person in the entire state playing it that day. There were no guides, no one on Reddit talking about it. It was just me. It seemed insurmountable. But in the end I learned the game and came out on top. That is my best gaming memory. The internet has really watered down the mystery of gaming. I lucked out with souls being ahead of the hype and not having it spoiled for me.

Elden ring gave so many cool spells interesting outfits, and i loved exploring. My main sorcerer account has 500 hours due to me being obsessed with exploring. Although the bosses aren’t exactly perfect, but then again i didn’t enjoy souls-game for the insanely hard bosses mainly just the thrill of making cool fucking builds.

I have never played a Souls Game but really wanna try. SHould I start with the first one/is it important in which order you play the games?

No it's not important , u can start with any game u want, sekiro is my fav but it's the hardest one of em and if it's ur first time playing souls game it'll be even harder for u but if u really love challenge I'd suggest it

@@uxgly3507 appreciate the answer. I would probably just start with the first one then to see how I like the general type of game and afterwards I'll see. I watched many videos and read a few threads and it feels like every person ranks the games differently (Bloodborne is always very high on the lists). Kinda difficult to decide now where to start 🥲

@@klodd5328My opinion is to just start with the game you feel like it speaks to you the most if that makes sense, like forget peoples rankings and what they recommend for various reasons, just choose the game that feels like it really calls you and it will be good, All of these games are different in their own right so choosing the one you personally prefer is best.

I don't think anyone plays these games for the stories tbh. A small amount of the player base care about the lore and store and the other half just want to face the challenge, boss fights and leveling up. If I were you I'd start with Demon Souls or Dark Souls 3

I also binged Sekiro and did like six play throughs back to back when I have only played a couple of the titles twice max. It is no doubt their best game, but it wouldn’t be Sekiro if it were longer and let you distort the role with more weapons or whatever. Your list is pretty accurate. They made Elden Ring too wide or it’d be third or second…

I appreciate this list, I literally had a similar discussion with my roommate about the DS1 vs DS2 debate. I agree with the list completely except I'd flip Sekiro and Bloodborne

Idea for bloodborne: Make a bloodborne 2 but doesn’t take place in the dream it takes place in the real world. Maybe a hunt happened in the real world and there where the game continues when you return back to the real world.

Good video! Tough one for me, it would probably be. 1. Elden Ring 2. Dark Souls 3. Dark Souls 3 4. Sekiro 5. Dark Souls 2 6. Demon's Souls
