Cherie Currie was married to Actor Robert Hays (Airplane). She is a CHAINSAW sculptor. She also has a fairly new solo album called "Blvds Of Splendor" with Slash and Duff on a couple of tracks. Pretty good album...

Ah, the memories. I think it was after I dropped out of college, I was working a crappy job, making next to no money. I hadn’t bought any records in a while (this was back when records and tapes were all you had). I went to a downtown record store. 2 albums caught my eye. One was Cheap Trick, In Color. I had seen them on TV, so I was somewhat aware of them, but didn’t really know them. But I wanted to check them out. The other record that caught my eye is The Runaways, Live In Japan. When I say caught my eye, I mean that literally. What a cover. I was in love with the bass player. I was aware there was an all girl band called the Runaways. I had not heard any of their music, didn’t know what kind of music they played. All I knew, I was in love with the bass player (I didn’t even know she, and the others, were around the same age as I was). At the time I wasn’t buying albums, due to lack of money. It wouldn’t be until I got a better paying job that I started buying records regularly. But that day I bought 2 records, and the one album was purely because of sex appeal. Thinking on this some more, I think it is likely I went into the store planning to buy the one album, the Cheap Trick, and came out with the Runaways one too.

I've always liked The Runaways. Just for their spirit, and their sense of fun. At the same time, in all honesty, I've never rated them as players, or as a band. I saw them at Newcastle City Hall in 1977 and that was a fun night but the one thing that sticks in my memory is that Vicki Blue was a terrible bass player. There's no doubt that Joan was talented though and I'm not surprised that she went on to do more accomplished things. Oh yes the other thing I remember from that night is that every time one of the girls turned round, they'd get a huge roar of approval from the (mostly male of course) crowd. Lita definitely liked this, and she milked it a bit. And that tight leather catsuit did show off her lower curves, no doubt about it.

I dont have any original albums of theirs except for the Live in Japan album that I got back in 1980 when I was 18. In 2010 Universal released the Mercury Albums Anthology that has all the albums except for And Now. I admit that initially I bought the live album out of curiosity - could these girls rock would it be any good - answer yes and yes. I always veered on the Lita Ford more metal side of things so tend towards Queens of Noise and Waitin' for the nIght and followed her solo career for the first few albums - saw her live supporting Rainbow in '83 and she was great.

No Cherie ,No Runaways. They should have changed the band name. Too many bands carry on with different members and keep the same band name. Led Zeppelin had the right idea. If any members change it's not really the same band. They never sounded like the same band. Def Leppard should have been considered a different band without Pete Willis. Black Sabbath were a totally different style of music after Ozzy Osbourne walked out on them . Whether the music is an improvement or not is irrelevant , almost every band is totally different without it's original members, especially if they helped write the songs

Cherie and Marie were the same person. Marie was an early experimentation with Hologram technology. It was originally tried on Jim Morrison in 1972 on a rare Doors performance for an underground Satanic Church beneath the soil of a park in Wotts, California. A Necromancer had made claims that he had risen Jim Morrison from the Dead, the Satanic High Priestess walked on stage right through the hologram and her followers were upset about the Morrison illusion not being real . A Curse was put upon the Production Company, and the Invention of the Hologram was hidden from the News media. Someone from the Publishing company used his knowledge to invent future Holograms through a pact with Lucifer, and a Sorcerer that had Daemon spirits in a little cage of Mirrors had shrunken the Producer and placed him in the little cage of Mirrors with the Daemons and absorbed the knowledge from Engineer's mind ,and has been creating I phones, androids, self check store robots, and Holograms ever since. All this sudden increase in technology didn't happen by accident. It's been around for many years just hidden from ordinary people until someone angry enough about humanity Unleashed the power. You haven't seen nothing yet. It's just the beginning

@robertdendooven7258 2 года назад
I know it was only a ranking show, but the story of the Runaways has intrigued me for the last 10 years or so and I was hoping for a more in-depth discussion. Wrong type of show I guess. I do wonder if The Runaways have been listened to by Sydney or Lynne? I would love to hear their view on the band, if they have one. In my opinion, the Runaways were put out into the mainstream before they were ready to be there. That is why many of their songs are mediocre to bad for me. Having said that, they do have some very good songs that needed better arraignments and recording effort. Their control freak manager, Kim Fowley, was a complete A-hole who raped one of them, hired an incompetent tour manager who got another pregnant, and allowed them too much freedom on the road for sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Had they honed their craft for another 18 to 24 months and then got a record deal, they would have been much better, IMHO. But then the whole schtick of an all-teenage girl band would be lost. The best line-up of talent for me was Sandy West on drums, Joan Jett on rhythm guitar and some lead vocals, Lita Ford on lead guitar, and Michael "Micki" Steele on bass and some lead vocals. This lineup actually played together for a few weeks in the fall of 1975 before Micki left or was fired by Kim Fowley depending on who you ask. You should look up here on RU-vid the Gold Star Studio demos the band did in early Sept. 1975 as a trio before Mick left and Lita Ford joined. It shows to me the better singing ability of Micki. I just don't know if this foursome could have written good songs together if they had gotten rid of Kim Fowley. A what if for me. My Album Ranking: 1) Queens of Noise 2) The Runaways 3) Waiting For The Night 4) And now... The Runaways I never like Cherie (pronounced Sherrie, not Cherry) Currie and thought she was a poor singer. Cherry Bomb is a horrible song and I cannot believe Pete thinks it is a good.one. It sounds too much like Thunder which is a better song to me. I read the first part of Lita Ford's autobiography dealing with the Runaways and it is sad how much she doesn't remember about the band that others have written about before. I couldn't care less about the part of her book after the Runaways because none of those people I care about. Not a Black Sabbath fan. A much better book is "Queens Of Noise: The Real Story of The Runaways" by Evelyn McDonnell Cherie's twin sister Marie was married to Steve Lukather. Dead End Justice was two songs the band could not finish writing, so they mashed them together which is why it seems like the song is in two parts.

@@robertdendooven7258 I'm not saying it's their 'best' song, but it's one of my favorites. Yes, exactly, just cause a song is popular doesn't mean everyone has to like it. For instance, I can't stand "I Love Rock n Roll'...detest it.

@@seaoftranquilityprog I understand your dislike for that overplayed song. I have a love/hate relationship with Joan Jett. I give her credit for being a pioneer woman in the rock/punk genre, but she stepped on a lot of people to get there. The Runaways were such a screwed-up band, She did not do much to help or back her fellow band members. Her most popular solo songs are covers and yet she could write some good music at times. Like I said previously, it would have been better in the long run for the band to play together longer before getting a record deal. In the end, The Runaways are a band that you only need to have a "best of" CD of their music in my opinion.

The Runaways way ahead of their time? Maybe but do yourself a favor and check out a band called Birtha from the early 70's, a band that in many ways set the stage for later acts like Runaways. Super songs, great vocals, more oomph (dare I say "balls") in their music & more variety/range. I have their s/t (posted to YT) album plus Can't Stop The Madness. One of the very best all female rock bands I've ever heard, Shele Pinizzotto was a fine guitar player. All four members sang & they toured with The Kinks, Fleetwood Mac, James Gang. From LA, originally formed in the late 60's & disbanded in '75. I think they did make an impact back in the day but now largely forgotten, which is a shame. Fans of bands like Uriah Heep should really like Birtha but also fans of 70's rock like Incredible Hog, Hard Stuff, Tin House & Highway Robbery. Many will mention Fanny when discussing the best ever all female rock bands but Birtha's on my short list (sorry but The Runaways aren't)

Amazing. Love the Runaways, other than that last album - that's a turd. They really do have a bunch of great songs. But Neon Angels On The Road To Ruin? One of my all-time favourites, for sure.
