Ozzy said in one of his books that there were a ton of people particularly in the south bible belt area in particular that thought they were satanists. He noticed a group of them with candles outside of their hotel so he went down and sang happy birthday blowing out the candles lol Savage!
Just thought the same. She gave nice comments about the time and what happened around that time and seemed to be aware how the music fitted around that time period.
If you follow these reactions you'll notice that she seems well educated in just about everything. You don't see many girls like her on RU-vid these days. 😁
Most likely they very well researched their history to be able to palce such comments and facts. So they wouldn't go blindly into a video about a band without having atleast SOME information.
LichLordOfFlames I read the Wikipedia on Black Sabbath and regurgitated it before the song. Everything after the song starts are our off the cuff musings. Juliette is currently taking AP US History and AP European History so she has these things close in mind.
Black Sabbath were NOT a Satanic band. The ultra-conservative religious fraternity basically misinterpreted Black Sabbath's music and stuck that label to them. The bassist, Geezer Butler, was / is Catholic and was really upset about being called Satanic. As a response, Black Sabbath recorded one of the most religious songs I've ever heard! If I can find it, I'll add it here. EDIT: Here you go.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--9ZEoz6L00E.html I knew I'd seen it somewhere!
One song out of how many? Then there's this, although more can be found, ... www.theguardian.com/music/2013/jun/06/black-sabbath-cocaine-private-plane No, the ultra-conservatives didn't misinterpret the band, the members misinterpreted their (Catholic) religion, "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial" - 1 Cor 10:23 As for their (Catholic) religious claims - 2 Cor 11:12-14, unless drugs, tattoos, and promiscuity is/was their (Catholic) religion. They had a large following, so the quesion for me is: "Are you doing one or more of these three partly because of BlackSabath influence?"
@Atheos B. Sapien I don't know what you're taking, but it ain't working, lol. Talking about BlackSabath admitting to drugs, sex, and tattoos, your strawman attack on me just shows you know what they did, and what kind of culture they promoted. Doesn't mean I don't like their music.
Big fat, thick distortion, overdrive, is what Black Sabbath brought to our ears. Along with the "evil" sounding chord changes, heavy distortion hadn't been heard much, [a few exceptions} That's what wormed into my 13 yr old brain when I first heard War Pigs. I'd heard Zeppelin and others, but the sound of the guitar's distortion, and along with the power and intensity and mood, is what made Sabbath unique, and how heavy metal came about.
It actually was the bass-player Geezer Butler that came up with the idea of using the name Black Sabbath for the band. He also is an important part of the writing of lyrics. Btw, BS is not satanic or "the music of the devil". The devil themed image is first of all a style created out of an interest in occult mysticism. Check out the lyrics on After Forever. I think you would be suprised.
I'm sure some people already commented this but that wasn't a double pedal. But double bass drums were used in the 60s. Double bass drums were popularized in the 1960s by rock drummers like Ginger Baker of Cream, Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Keith Moon of The Who and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd. Now, some more suggestions for future "School of Metal" reactions: Deep Purple, Rainbow, Judas Priest, Saxon, Kiss, Diamond Head, Motörhead, Manowar, King Diamond, Alice Cooper, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Nazareth
Just a note: The girl you're referring to wasn't on fire. She had been burned by napalm and was photographed running down a road. There is a very famous photograph of a monk that set himself on fire in protest. Your daughter has a very good history teacher if they're not only using the textbook but, also incorporating the music of the time. Sounds like a class I would have looked forward to when I was in school.
Blind guardian- bard song & valhalla live It's two songs in one video but it shows both ends of the spectrum, their really soft stuff, and their heavy stuff and is really good for people new to their music tbh Plus the crowd is insane
I saw them twice, in 1970 and 71, on their second and third album tours. I remember thinking that they played exactly like their studio albums. And Ozzy jumping around with bare feet. Huge sold out concerts both times. Saw them at The Forum in LA.
The amazing thing about Tommy Iommi is they before they started recording, he lost the tips of two of his fingers in an industrial accident. The accident happen just before he quit.
Great reaction again guys 👍 Rich man's war, poor man's fight has been the reality for centuries. And yes, many, many songs have been sung about it in many genres. 90% 🤘🍅 for me. SoM suggestions: Iron maiden - afraid to shoot Strangers or. Powerslave Slayer - dead skin mask. Or. Raining blood Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction or. Sweating bullets
8:45 those lyrics (and others later) are a little different from what ended up on the album. 9:55 very astute observation, bravo. You're exactly on point 12:00 one of those pedals is for the hi hat my friend
Craven is right. I'm so used to the lyrics on the album (Paranoid) that it threw me off. This performance is almost 6 years before the album they released this song on.
Love the analysis. This is one of the best filmed live performances ever. I don’t know how they could play any other songs after this given the energy expended.
My dad knew them back then. I'm 56 now and remind everyone that this was completely off the wall in 1970. Playing live; no clever tech or mixing boards. Just pure skill and energy. Timeless. Priceless.
Don't subject your viewers to Blind Guardian. Their music is a joke. It's meant for little kids. Their along the same line as Nightwish. Please react to Tool. Music by adults for adults.
Bill ward is using one pedal for the hi hat and the other pedal for the bass. These guys all used to 15 mins from where i live and are by far my favourite band. I went to their last ever gig in birmingham and it was amazing to see they still have it.
Great video! We actually have the exact same show lined up for today so that’s a hilarious coincidence, lol! Loved your guys’ Lateralus video by the way!! 😁
@Darrell Beam I did the studio version I want to say like 7 or 8 months ago? And people have been telling me to check out this live version since! I agree with what you’re saying, the studio really does capture the feeling of the song in terms of the lyrics and the projection of the instrumentals. This live version does a good job though! 🔥👌🏻
Awesome vid guys. Black Sabbath is my favorite band of all time and they have at least 30 more songs worth listening to. Hope to see more sabbath from you guys soon. 😁
You should do many Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath songs. All of metal derives in some way from these two bands. 'Good Times Bad Times' is a good place to start.
With the double bass drum thing you’re right, he’s not using one he’s just keeping time with both feet, one on the hi hats and one on the bass drum. I thought that too when I first watched this though
Geezer Butler with a fantastic job writing the song, and excellent drumming by Bill Ward. Bill Ward, was so amazing on this track, one of the best drum tracks ever. This must be a very early version of the song because the lyrics are slightly different in some parts.
14:15 I'm English and I literally thought of the exact same comeback 'He's English' after she said that haha. It's cold and cloudy here cut us some slack.
The lyrics printed out later where kinda different from what he's singing, here. The drumming of Bill Ward was simply the most aggressive and best I've seen. WOW! About Toni: just prior to getting on stage as Black Sabbath, he lost 2 fingertips in an accident at work. He invented artificial fingertips, tailored for him, to keep on playing guitar. It's said that these artificial fingertips created much of his very hard play on the guitar, not beeing able to feel the strings with his fingertips. Pls watch out, what ingenious songs he created. Riff after riff in just one song! Today, some would produce an album on just one of those. They where inventors of this style. Like playing only bass and echo on one short song. Just guitar riffs, making a short song. Like playing with the english chaimber choir. This is, how become legendary ;-)
You guys really need to check out the album version Ozzy really screwed the lyrics up on the live version! On the album the lyrics are really intense and timeless!!🤟🤟 Rock On! I actually had the pleasure to see them 3 times twice with Ozzy once with Dio!
I was thinking these were early lyrics, but I think Ozzy said it was already out. Interesting lyrics leaving that "they leave that all to the poor" part.
Tony still wears large cross today. During Black Sabbath's final tour, all members except Bill Ward joined together. Ozzy supposed to do his final tour until he came down with pneumonia then injured himself after he recovered from pneumonia. Tour is on hold.
Good song pick and review. I smile every time I see you two on my notifications! I want to see some metal and flags in the background! Make that room a Circle of Death headquarters! #cheers
It's lovely to see this monstrous song touch the souls of a new generation. It may not be the greatest song ever written but it is an important and relevant one.
your daughter seems really cool!! i got into metal two years ago when i was 16. it’s the best choice that i’ve made for myself. have fun transitioning her into a full on metal head 🤘
not really a classic band, more nu meta,l very early nu metal, i think they are really trying to hit the roots and major influences in early metal with the school of metal series.
@@silverfiste it is Melodic Death Metal from Sweden and they have been around since 1990. Could you name a few other MD bands that have been around prior to In Flames? Don't you think you should be considered a "classic" when you have, well, let's say co-invented the whole genre?
My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom
Chuck Bill ward is actually using the pedal on his hi-hat. the double kick pedal wasn't really used until Overkill by the mighty Motorhead when Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor utilised it
As a kid in the early 80s a School pal of mine .Played Paranoid on his guitar and small box.In his bedroom. No music sheet. Heard it once and started to jam. Been a Meatal fan since.
So cool -and rare - to see other dads not only listening to great music with their kids, but also having meaningful discussions together. Keep up the great videos! Oh, and Sabbath were never really "satanists", War Pigs is a brilliant anti-war song, and other songs that delve into darker subjects always paint them in the proper negative light.
Good parenting. That music punches right into the soul. When it's in there that's the music you'll be attached to forever, or ecclectic. My daughter heard Ozzy at 5 and I raised her on that and classic rock she's 15 now.
LOL I just realized.. when I see the drummer (Bill Ward) in this video.. I am reminded of "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Peace
Nice reaction and I am new but impressed by the historical knowledge that both of you have on an era that before your time. I was just a kid in the 60s but a teen in the 70s and grew up with Black Sabbath. Do more old school hard rock. I enjoyed it.
Imagine what it was like being 13 years old in 1970 hearing this for the first time! It's difficult to put into words that feeling but I was instantly a fan when I heard it! I knew it was something different that I had never heard before!
