They did a good job of keeping Casey Jones' inclusion in the movie a secret. When he dropped down from the tree, every kid in the theater gasped excitedly, turned to the friend next to him, and yelled out "CASEY!" It made the whole movie for them.
I had no idea Casey would be in this movie either, until everyone in the theater started whispering about his entrance (I was looking down at my candy, I think)
Josh Pais “Raphael” - Plays the passenger in the back of the cab when Raph leaps onto the cab’s hood. Lief Tilden “Donatello” - Plays the foot messenger that meets April in the subway station. David Forman “Leonardo” - Portrays a gang member at the warehouse when Casey Jones fights with Foot Clan leader Tatsu. Michelan Sisti “Michelangelo” - Is the pizza delivery man who delivers the turtles pizza in the sewer. This is a good article with a few interesting facts I didn't know about: uproxx.com/webculture/2014/08/heres-everything-the-90s-kid-in-you-didnt-know-about-the-original-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-movie/
pontyfaxjr I wish Kenn Troum who wore the re-made Raphael suit that was re-made for the 1991 second live action movie had also wore the first Raphael suit of the first live action movie, and i also wish Laurie Faso who was the vocals of Raphael for the 1991 second live action movie was the vocals of Raphael also for the first live action movie instead of Josh Pais who wore the Raphael suit, voiced as Raphael, AND played as the cab passenger of the first live action movie, and i also wish someone else had played as the Foot messenger instead of Leif Tilden who wore the Donatello suit of the first live action movie too!
I don't know either, but I do know my boy Raph became a little bit stronger right after Casey responded, "I'll teach you." I came here to post that line.
+Dirty Random310 The shot way above the city at night and you can still hear, "DAAAAAMN!" Just that clip alone is priceless. It's a good reactionary clip, especially these days.
@@davephantom5150 Don't take this the wrong way, but do you still type the first letter of each word in caps? It's an internet trend that has always fascinated me for some reason. Cowabunga.
This scene gives you a clue as to why Raph is always so angry, and so many people never even notice.. Raphael is wrestling with the fact that he cant live a normal life, and that he's an outsider and unlike the rest of the human population. He's mad that he has to be an outcast for looking so differently. And when Casey Jones calls him a "freak", Raphael's reaction says it all. It really hurts to be judged on looks for someone who's already an outcast. The scene with Master Splinter and Raph means that much more after understanding this.
there's alot of subtle show of character in this movie that michael bay loving morons won't pick up on. I noticed just for the first time shredder has this troubled/worried look in his eyes when he says "something familiar...something from the past" i also noticed that master tatsu feels embarrasment/remorse after he goes crazy and start to attack his own foot soldiers
This will always be my favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. I can still quote lines from this movie word for word. Those Michael Bay produced movies will never beat this gem.
One of the best lessons taught in this film is the scene that follows, when Splinter contructively lectures Raph about his anger. Splinter: "Raphael, come sit by me." Raph: "Couldn't this wait 'til morning?" Splinter:"You will listen now!" *Splinter lights a candle* Splinter continues: "My Master Yoshi's first rule was: 'Possess the right thinking. Only then can One receive the gifts of strength, knowledge, and peace.' I have tried to channel your anger, Raphael, but more remains. Anger clouds the mind. Turned inward, it is an unconquerable enemy. You are unique among your brothers, for you choose to face this enemy alone. But, as you face it, do not forget them (his brothers), and do not forget me." Splinter then places a warm, loving hand/paw upon the head of Raph, who has his face down and tears in his eyes, and Splinter says, "I am here, my son."
I think I know now why Raphael was saying to Leonardo when they were at Aprils Apartment, ( So what do we do now? Leonardo: What do mean what do we do now? Raphael: Splinters out there somewhere). I guess Raphael did respect the advice Splinter gave him.
Lmao I got in major trouble from my 2nd grade teacher for that 😂. We had one of those "let's watch a movie" chill days in class and I begged her to let me bring in my TMNT VHS tape. When she found out it was rated PG she didn't have an issue. That is until that part 🤣
He's a crazy jock who beats up scumbags with sports equipment. It's such a simple, wonderful idea. He's like a good Jason Voorhees. He does look quite tough though, not too normal, I mean he looks like he would be good in a fight just by looking at him. He's a lot like a jock version of Indiana Jones. I think he'd have short hair if he was real though, that long hair would be a royal pain in the ass.
Actually he has a very definite style of fighting, but it is informal. He also utilizes stealth and intimidation in his vigilantism and even some gadgets (he listens to police radio and scouts with binoculars). Mask protects his face and sports equipment can be very efficient weapons. He's what Batman would be if he wouldn't have resources of Fiction 500-megacorp.
They should do a full motion picture about Casey Jones before he met the turtles. It said about the character here in the movie that he use to be professional hockey player til he got injured and his career ended. He had nothin else to do with his life but he loves his city and the good people that live their in the Big Apple so he decides to fight crime and protect the innocent
As an immigrant kid I had no idea what they were saying. But this movie was played so many times throughout my early childhood that I ended up memorizing the lines phonetically. Just last week I learned that Jose Canseco is a person, finally shedding light on the line "ahosay kunsakobat?"
That's hilarious. As kids we sort of make up lines based on what they sound like if we don't really know what's being said. I'll still repeat those same words as I'm watching now. I remember not being able to understand half of what Casey was saying
1:21 amazing how the costumes can speak and move their mouths as if they were real. It’s mind blowing to see movies like this perform so great without CGI
+Lenora Kilpatrick Stephen Amell is a good actor and an interesting choice. I personally like him and his work on "Arrow". I have high hope for the guy. And I think the reason why they didn't choose Elias is cause he would've been too old.(He's 54.)
Bring back so many childhood memories watching this scene and movie, remember sitting at my grandmother's house watching this on the VCR player everyday!!!
"What the heck was that?" "Looked like sort of a big turtle in a trench coat." I always laugh at this. The taxi driver is so ok with a giant turtle running around the streets of New York. :D
Raph might have kicked his ass but I have a feeling Casey would have given him a hard time even if Raph tried. Casey is a very unpredictable and resourceful fighter.
[RAPH RUNS INTO CAB] RAPH'S VOICE ACTOR IN CAB: What the heck was that!? TAXI DRIVER: [Casually] Looked like sort of a big turtle in a trench coat. You're goin to LaGuardia, right? A subtle but hilarious gag.
@Stimulator7 True since I'm from New York. It's the same thing on Muppets Take Manhattan. Kermit: *Hearing not far from him Ms. Piggy screaming and bashing a lead pipe at a steel colum frustrated from recieving cat calls from construction workers* Hey, what all the racket? Rizzo: Eh, it's New York...
The best version of Ninja Turtles. Hands down. They haven't made anything anywhere near as cool as this. This seems so fresh too, like it's so different to any other movie.
+Low Gunfire "Hey, bogey, who died and made you referee? You did your job, now get out of here and let me do mine, these JV low lifes need to be taught a lesson."
Low Gunfire *purse snatchers run off* "Well, looks like your the one that needs to be taught a lesson. Your course is Pain 101, your instructors Casey Jones!"
Casey "Cricket." Raphael"Cricket? Nobody understands Cricket. You got to know what a crumpet is to understand Cricket.'' Casey '' I'll teach you.'' *swings Cricket bat* Raphael '' Ooomph. '' Casey '' Hey. Six runs.'' Raphael '' Ugh ugh ahhhhh!'' Casey '' So long freak! I got work to do!!'' Raphael '' Freak?!! Freak?!!!!!!'' Passenger '' What the heck was that?! Taxi driver '' Looked like sort of a big turtle in a trench coat. You're going to LaGuardia right?'' Raphael '' Come back here!!! I'm not finished with you!!!! DANMMMMMM!!!''
The dialogue here is priceless. My line is, "Cricket!? Cricket??? Maaan....you got understand what a CRUMPET is to understand cricket!" -- Watch his body language and expressions there (@ about 2:13 in). Too much!
First saw this movie when I was 4, and despite having no idea why "you got understand what a CRUMPET is to understand cricket!" was funny for probably about 15-20 more years, I've quoted that line my entire life whenever applicable.
That line was pure money. Infinitely quotable, in fact I literally react with that whenever the sport is mentioned. I had completely forgotten about the gold that is, "a Jose Canseco bat? Tell me you didn't pay money for this." And "Pain 101, your instructor is Casey Jones." So many timeless qualities. Wish I could find a clip of the warehouse fight where Raph says, "Step up" as they're stomping the Foot.
***** / 3Rayfire / intsoccersuperstar1 / Bryce Thomas : Anybody see the latest one (TMNT)? They have ads all over the subways here still. Worth the money??? "COME BACK HERE!!! I'm not finished with you....DAAAAAAMN!!!"
Yes! So cool. I could never remember the dude's name, but recently got in a little debate on who played Casey in this first TMNT movie. The other person thot it was Detective Stabler (Christopher Meloni) from SVU, and I knew it was Elias.
@@ridleymcnamara2273 Interesting. Similar types. Elias Koteas wound up costarring on the first few seasons of Chicago PD, which is also produced by Dick Wolf, who produces the Law & Order series. Indeed, SVU and Chicago PD has a crossover, though it was after Christopher Meloni, who played Stabler, left SVU.
I just recited this quote in my mind; "Now that was a crime you purse grubbing pukes! And this is a the penalty. Two minutes for slashing, two minutes for hooking, and let's not forget my personal favorite, two minutes for high sticking.
Jarock316 Hey, Bogie, now who died and made you referee? You did your job now get out of here and let me do mine. These JV lowlifes need to be taught a lesson.
Without a doubt one of the best scenes in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 considering that it shows Raphael's first encounter with Casey Jones. Add to the fact that the scene takes place at night makes it even more iconic and unforgettable.
Casey Jones: Cricket. Raph: Cricket?! Nobody understands Cricket. You gotta know what a crumpet is, to understand Cricket. Casey Jones: I'll teach you. (Hits Raphael into the air)
"You godda know what a crumpet is before you can understand cricket." remains one of my favourite movie quotes of all time. Thanks for uploading I had a random urge to see this again; so you saved me searching for the DVD. :P
The guy was accused of using performance enhancing drugs during his career in the MLB, and in 2005 he admitted that he was in fact doing drugs at that time. Also, it could just be because Raph didn't have any respect for Jose and simply did it to dig at Casey.
Took me 20+years to get the "Bogey" reference, love when I figure out shit like that. Trivia: In the '87 cartoon Raph quoted Bogey while wearing the same trenchcoat outfit ("here's looking at you, kid!")
Zach4life150 I wish Kenn Troum who wore the Raphael costume that was re-made for the 1991 second live action movie had also wore wore the first Raphael costume that was made for the 1990 first live action movie too, And I also wish Laurie Faso who was the voice of Raphael for the 1991 second live action movie had voiced as Raphael also for the 1990 first live action movie too and had Josh Pais only play the part of the cab passenger at 2:47 instead of being both the voice and live role of Raphael too.
Reggie Park Toitle? Wait a minute, that taxi driver call turtle a toitle! Do you know who else calls turtles a toitles? BINGO!! Rocksteady in human form as taxi driver XD
"A cricket bat? nobody understands Cricket, you gotta know what a crumpet is, to understand cricket." It's only all these years later after finally being able to watch the movie again that I understand that joke
Igarappappa If you haven't watched "Everything Wrong With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)" by CinemaSins, then please go watch it, at 2:02 you'll know why.
"Cricket? Nobody understands cricket, you gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket!" and "DAAAAAMNNNNN!!!!!" are some lines that stick with me
+Antichrist2000 It was largely adapted from the comic, with elements of the cartoon incorporated into it. The director said himself that he started with the comic because he was a big fan of it. Which is why their origin is almost exactly like the comic (Splinter always being a rat, for example, not human first). In fact, the movie's plot follows much of the comic's early issues, like a turtle nearly getting killed (Leon in comic, Raph in the movie), April's apartment being destroyed, and them escaping to April's family house up north. It's also less fantastical like the comic. The Foot ninjas aren't robots, but part of a ninja clan. There is no Technodrome or Dimension X (though the Krang-like aliens appear). It's much more grounded, like this movie. But with the cartoon taking off, the director added elements to it like the different colour bandanas and their love of pizza into the movie. So it's a bit of both, but with MUCH stronger leanings from the comic.
The multi-color bandanas, pizza preference, April working for a TV station came from the cartoon, the violence was toned down, and they created the original character Tatsu. But overall this movie was adapted from the Mirage comic books Search the web for "Batman-Online Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and the Comics" for comic-movie similarities
Yeah, you really don't know do you? Have heard of the original comic? have you read it? Guess not. I've read the first five volumes of the original comic published by IDW and this movie is in-fact an adaptaion of the comic. For instance this scene with Raph and Casey meeting was taken from the Raphael One-shot "Me-Myself-and-I." Raphael getting clobbered was taken from the Leonardo one-shot "What Goes Around.... Comes Around" Only in the movie it's Raph Instead of Leo. The Shredder's Design is taken directly from the comic as is his origin. The turtles and splinters origin is taken from the comics. The fight with the Shredder on the rooftop at the end is from the first Issue. The Turtles, april, and Casey fighting and fleeing from the foot into the country is from issue 10 "Silent Partner" April Writing in her Diary about the Turtles and Casey on the farm is from issue 11 "True Stories" The Turtles going back to New York is from the three-part Story line "Return to New York"
Nah, that's my brother's reaction (and myself) to the Call Of Duty series every time his ass gets blown up by grenades that NPCs spam at him on Veteran difficulty.
I love how Raphael points at his sai and the goons run away. As if the scary part of that situation isn’t the giant turtle, but the weapon the giant turtle uses
Casey: *dodges the swing* "Strike one!" *dodges the second swing* "Whoa! Whiffer!" Raphael: *hits Casey in the back* "Home run!" *celebrates* "Raphael wins! One, nothing!"
@@davidcolantuono3622 A "whiff" or "whiffer" is when you take a swing at the ball in baseball and get nothing but air. A bad swing that doesnt come close to the ball to the point where the batter should have known better to even take a shot.
This will always be the Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movies Adaptation Ever nothing will compare to these Practical effects and Costumes Nothing boy do i miss the 90's it was the Best and Great years ever for Movies and Superhero movies were on coming up.
